Hello to all of the lovely people on r/popheads! Over the past few weeks Iβve been a little bit obsessed with telling my pophead friends all about my personal favorite artist of all time, John Mayer. Since I enjoy talking about him so much, I was eventually convinced into doing a writeup here.
I realize that many popheads, especially those of a younger generation (Iβm 20 myself) are pretty unfamiliar with the music of John Mayer. Perhaps you are familiar with some other aspects of him as a person, but my goal here is to provide an overview of his discography thus far, so Iβm only going to discuss what is musically relevant. Of course, in the discussion about his music, criticism is welcome where it is warranted. But, please, donβt come here for the sole purpose of writing a comment about how Dear John outsold.
Thank you in advance for reading, and letβs get started!
John Mayer became fascinated with the guitar after watching the movie Back to the Futureβs iconic Johnny B. Goode scene, and he received his first guitar at age 13. He eventually became so consumed by learning the guitar that his parents took him to a psychiatrist twice because they were so concerned. When he was 17, he suffered from cardiac dysrhythmia and was hospitalized for a weekend. John credits this as βthe moment the songwriter in me was born,β as he wrote his first lyrics the night he left the hospital.
1999 - CAREER BEGINNINGS & INSIDE WANTS OUT

After reluctantly enrolling at Berklee College of Music for 2 semesters, John dropped out along with friend Clay Cook to move to Atlanta and pursue music full time. He began playing shows around Atlanta and released his debut EP, Inside Wants Out, independently on September 24, 1999. As will become the norm in his discography, every song is written by Mayer. The EP initially gained little traction, but after John became popular, it was re-released in August 2002 by Columbia Records, which is the version available today.
The first half of this EP features songs that were later re-recorded for Johnβs debut Room For Squares. While itβs cool to hear early versions of these songs if youβre interested, in my opinion theyβre inferior to the final versions.
As for the songs unique to this EP, first there is βVictoria,β an early track in which you can easily pinpoint Joh

Itβs going to be Legend Dairy
It's called John Legend Dairy.
Starting off, almost everyone and their mother knows of Master Chief Petty Officer John-117. Doesn't matter the species or distance, his feats are well known. There was hate, fear and respect for the so-called demon throughout the Covenant, most of the respect coming from Jiralhanae and Sangheili for different reasons. I'd imagine Sangheili thought of John-117 as a possible contender for a kaidon position if he was a Sangheili and not human scum. Though such thoughts are mostly kept inside, it'd be heresy to many to voice such opinions. Now though, especially from the perspective of the Lights of Sangheilios and their allies, such a opinion is likely widespread conversation. Many, now unclouded from religious fervor, probably realize that not only is Master Chief a master combatant and tactician: alongside those traits, he is a selfless hero of his people, fighting for the safety of his race against, in hindsight, an cruel force. Not only is he strong as fast, but also brave and stoic in the face of danger. Many a clan would more than revere such a warrior, whether he is a Sangheili or no. Safe to say, he is likely popular among Sangheili.
With that, here is my question/suggestion. I feel like it would a nice path for the story of John-117, whether in the games or extended media, to see him work with and even for his new Sangheili allies. I want to see him and Thel 'Vadam fight together and importantly, talk with each other. They are both legends amongst their people's , veterans of so many battles. Both mentally and physically, they persevered alone and together. I want to see the kind of conversations such individuals would get into. Military strategy, regrets, philosophy, hopes, etc. Halo is more than just a Sci-Fi shooter, many of the games show this, but most obviously Halo 2 with its two lenses. They are not so different from each other, just in appearance perhaps.
I can go on and on, but I'll flutter the accelerator some for now. Would a Sangheili clan, perhaps 'Vadam, welcome John-117 to their keep for a feast of honour. Would young Sangheili watch in awe or request a duel from him or lessons? Would Master Chief earn the attention of female Sangheili? I'm not expecting him to get winks or fluttering eyelashes( ok, I kind of hope so), but at least some subtle hints to said women being attracted to him despite the species barrier. He is a great warrior, a kind one too under his many layers of defense and armament.
A little tidbit, I have
