A list of puns related to "Jessica Lynch"
Watched the lynch dune movie for the first time last night and it was wild lol. definitely not how i imagine the world & characters but i kind of appreciate how off the rails it is.
i will say though, i really disliked how they portrayed jessica. she was always crying and it felt like she was constantly dependent on paul, when in the books sheβs soooo much more self-sufficient and just overall more of a badass. anybody else feel this way?
also was it a mistake to watch the movie when im not done reading the books yet? lol im hoping it wont ruin my own vision of the world and everything. im guessing it wont since it only covered the first book and iβm already through messiah hahaha
I'm assuming most of you know who Jessica Lynch was. US Army... POW... got rescued by Delta and SEAL teams in the early days of OEF/OIF. If not, feel free to google, I'm not going to recount the whole story here, but I did play a very tiny role in the story. Not even enough that it was worth telling until a few months ago when this story got its ending. Anyway, here we go:
Back in 2002/2003 I was assigned to the 723rd AMS/AMCC in Ramstein Germany, which was the gateway to the middle east. Nothing went downrange and nothing came back unless it went through Ramstein or Frankfurt. The newspapers reported at the time that the 86th Air Wing was responsible for the mission that sent her home (which is understandable since the 86th Wing owned the joint) however because it was an Air Mobility Command mission (Not USAFE) it the mission was actually controlled by TACC, and handled locally by the 723rd AMS.
So what does that mean?
Well, it means that all the support Jessica got when she landed was coordinated by my pals who were on duty that night. A1C L and A1C W most likely (had to remove names due to Reddit policy) . It was a lot of years ago and I wasnt working that night, but those two were as likely as anyone in the shop. The ambulance that met her and took her to Landstuhl Hospital, the trans bus for the aircrew, the the fleet guys who serviced the aircraft, - all of that stuff was personally coordinated by the 723rd AMCC. (Air Mobility Command Center for those who dont dig the alphabet soup) Here's a video of her late night arrival on Balls-183 (Thats a tail number, not a callsign) And if you look at the vertical tail flash you'll see it is an AMC C-17 that brought her in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bARglGHxwsg
Anyway, it wasnt a big deal. Jessica got brought in first. A day or two later (when I was on duty) another jet brought in the rest of the POWs who were rescued. The media was having a field day. CNN, Foxnews, SKYNEWS and friggin everyone else was out there on the flight line broadcasting the arrival live for their respective news agencies.
A couple of the returning POWs got out on the wing of the jet and we actually got a real-time phone call (which was impressive considering the 6 hr time difference between us and the states) from TACC telling us to get those guys off the wing of the plane.. it apparently didnt look good on the news.
We resolved that one too by radioing out to the jet and simp
