A list of puns related to "Japonisme"
As a non-French I may be mistaken, but it seems that there is or was a special love of Japanese media and culture in France that isn't replicated elsewhere. Anime is at minimum as popular there as anywhere else in the Western world if not more so, Francophone "best ever" movie lists boast plenty of Japanese films compared to Anglophone lists, and Judo is far more popular in France than it is in Japan (my lazy head math and less than reliable internet numbers indicates that there's 8 times as many Judo practitioners per capita in l'Hexagone than in the sport's homeland).
So when did all that start?
Thanks!
I have been looking for texts and resources on Japonisme in todays society. Obviously Japonisme was a craze during the French Expressionist period. But are their inherent design aspects or aesthetics that are observed in the west - maybe quite subtle in nature?
Japonisme - AI Photo Editor featuring Ukiyo-e Art Themes
Hi, r/AndroidAppTesters,
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.app.mp.japonisme
First of all, We'd like to thank you for visiting our post in a busy season.
We are developing Japonisme, Prisma-like AI Photo Editor featuring Ukiyo-e and modern Japanese art themes. This is Android-only app.
This App's functionality is pretty simple: Choose/take photo → Choose art filter → Share/save output photo.
Unlike other AI photo editor apps,
- Japonisme works under completely offline condition. Tensorflow algorithm runs on Android devices without server processing;
- Trimming / size adjustment of original photo is not required. Any-sized photo can be processed; and
- Deep style changes are applied.
We are still in public beta and improving our app before our production release, so we would really appreciate any kind of feedback.
Given the offline processing feature, this App is memory eater. Thus stability on low-memory devices is crucial topic, on which we would like to get your feedback.
Should you have any feedback, please email us (mashedpotage@gmail.com) or leave a comment.
Thank you very much for your consideration.

Abstract:
> This article establishes a link between Ravel’s musical textures and the phenomena of Japonisme. Since the pairing of Ravel and Japonisme is far from obvious, I develop a series of analytical tools that conceptualize an aesthetic orientation called “color counterpoint,” inspired by Ravel’s fascination with Chinese and Japanese art and calligraphy. These tools are then applied to selected textures in Ravel’s “Habanera,” “Le grillon” (from Histoires naturelles), and are related to the opening measures of Jeux d’eau and the Sonata for Violin and Cello. Visual and literary Japonisme in France serve as a graphical and historical foundation to illuminate how Ravel’s color counterpoint may have been shaped by East Asian visual imagery.
Users are welcome to pose potential questions the abstract raises in this thread.

When I got this book, it was just for simple pleasure. I love the culture of japan but never really understood how to completely immerse myself in its mind set. This book changed that. From the purpose, or ikigai, of my life, to my new routine on Sunday (shinrin-yoku, followed by shūji). It details how these practices and ideals came to be, how you can use them in modern life, and how they can help, and hinder, your growth as an individual. The book is peppered with inspirational Japanese idioms that will help you in your life (with many little strokes, a large tree is felled). This book is perfect if you want to enhance your lifestyle and enrich your mind by looking at life through the lens of wabi-sabi (the transient nature of life), kintsugi (repairing broken ceramics with gold) or kaizen (habit-forming techniques), in an accessible, practical way.

My apologies for getting this up later than usual. Today we will be discussing Jessica Stankis's "Maurice Ravel’s 'Color Counterpoint' through the Perspective of Japonisme"
The following are some probing questions to get things started. Note, these points are mere suggestions, it is perfectly acceptable to take the conversation in a completely different direction.
1.) Discuss this video in relation to what Stankis calls the "interrupted circle motif."
2.) What are the benefits of reading Ravel's music in light of Japonese artistic traditions and aesthetics?
3.) How do we feel about mapping the concept of brush strokes into a musical notation? Do we feel as though we get a lot out of that? What are some directions to move this idea forward?
Looking forward to the discussion!
