The Moon should be given a proper name; leaving it as β€œThe Moon” is stupid and nonsensical.

Edit: And here we see a bunch of folk insisting that the name of the Moon is Luna, but that’s just the translation of the word moon, not a proper noun like Venus or Jupiter.

Edit: I just want to say thank you to everyone for the spirited discussion, I’ve received a lot of great feedback and enjoy listening to everyone’s opinions and thoughts.

This seems to come up here and there in some space and planet specific subreddits. It’s usually posed as a question like β€œWhat if we named the Moon?”, or β€œWe should give the Moon a real name.”

Then you have a bunch of smart asses chime in β€œOh, didn’t you learn this in 1st grade?? That IS its name! It’s literally called The Moon. What are you, some sort of dense mouth breather? First time on Reddit, pleb? Go back to studying the astrological signs, hahaha!” Ehh, you get the gist. This idea is not taken kindly by the astronomical community (or Reddit for that matter).

Well that’s dumb as hell and it’s way past time we gave the Moon a proper name. Imagine the first planet the ancient Greeks discovered in the sky was simply named β€œThe Planet”, and every planet discovered afterwards was given a name based off their gods, features, or whatever. Then a few hundred years later someone says, β€œYeah… you know that planet called the Planet, doesn’t that seem just a little bit… silly? Shouldn’t we assign a… proper name to it?” But oh no we can’t change The Planet’s name because that’s what it’s name is!”

That sounds completely stupid, yet we as humankind have accepted this excuse for the Moon, when there are literally THOUSANDS of moons in space? Why is it so hard for the astronomical society to realize and accept this? Can you imagine the first mountain discovered just called The Mountain? The first ocean charted to be called The Ocean? The first dinosaur fossil unearthed called The Dino? No!! But the Moon is the Moon. WTF!!! That’s dumb and no longer makes sense now that we’ve discovered it is not the only moon.

Deoksung 63 is the name given to a Jane Doe whose body was discovered inside a block of concrete in 2016. Who was Deoksung 63? And how did she come to be there?

The Scene

On April 28, 2016, construction workers were hard at work dismantling an outhouse. They were in Incheon, South Korea, in one of the many industrial complexes that had sprung up in the eighties.

The outhouse had been built into the side of a three-story building, under an emergency staircase. Between the staircase and the outhouse was a short box-like structure, 135cm x 90cm x 40cm in dimension. The sides were lined with cinderblocks then filled with concrete. It didn’t seem to serve any purpose. It wasn’t attached to the staircase. It wasn't supporting anything. So the workers decided to break that apart as well.

According to the construction workers, the concrete box was nearly impossible to break. Eventually, they got a crowbar to dislodge one of the cinderblocks. And as soon as they did, something tumbled out from the dark.

It was a human skull.

Inside the concrete, there was a body whose bones had been bleached white. Age could not be determined right away. Nor sex. Nor how long the it had been there.

Beside the bones, the police found a small pillow, a ramen soup packet and a box of cigarettes.

Recreation of the scene

The Victim

The police were baffled.

Some of the buildings in the area had been around since the 80s. The building where the body had been found had changed ownerships then. Businesses, different for each floors, had come and gone. Were they looking at a cold case from the 80s? The statute of limitations had already run out. The poor victim might never find justice.

Through forensics, the police determined that the victim was a woman in her early 20s from Northeast Asia which includes Korea, China, Japan, Mongolia and Taiwan. Her DNA turned up no matches. A fingerprint, preserved in the concrete, also had no matches. The victim was missing a molar in her lower jaw. But her remains had no overt signs of trauma. No cause of death could be found.

The police theorized that the victim was either a runaway or a migrant worker. Migrant workers were a common sight in the industrial complex and at the time, they were not fingerprinted.

Unable to proceed further with the victim’s body, the police turned to the other evidence found with the victim.

  • A pillow, which was presumed to have been used to cover the victim’s face during burial
  • The ramen soup packet from a discontinued brand

[Spoilers Extended] Which names should Arya have given Jaqen H'ghar to allow Rob Stark the best chances at victory in the war?

Arya's pick of names were bad in terms of giving house Stark the best chances at victory. She chose people of zero significance to the war as a whole. They were bad evil men but most soldiers commit evil acts in war.

She had 3 sure deaths. Tywin seems an obvious choice but in my opinion a bad one. The Lannisters would still have Tyrion. They would havea competent commander in Levan Lannister. I dont think killing Tywin woukd have made a huge difference.

Stannis wanted to kill Rob and he was dangerous. Renly was also Rob's enemy. He had declared himself a king and had taken half of the kingdom. They both saw him as an enemy who would not bend the knee.

I think the best choices were Joffrey, Tommen and Myrcella. Kill all 3 and the Lannisters totally lose their purpose in the war. Killing Joffrey is not enough. As Tommens claim still exists for the lanjistwrs to back. Same with myrcella. The labnisters woul just ignore the succession law of the male uncle coming before the female daughter.

Kill all 3 and the lannisters have nothing. Taking them out of the war. They were Robs main enemies.

Twins accidentally given opposite names

I found this out a few months ago, and I just learned about this thread and thought y’all might enjoy this story :)

I’m (19f) a twin, and my sister and I have very similar first names (as many twins do). For our middle names, our parents named both of us after our grandmothers. My middle name is Luz after my maternal grandmother, it’s a fairly common name in the Hispanic community, meaning β€œLight” in English. My sister’s middle name is Darcel after our paternal grandmother. She passed before we were born and we were never told if there was any significance to the name, and I never met another Darcel before, so a few months ago I decided to do some research on the name. The first thing that comes up is that it has Irish/Gaelic roots and means β€œDark”. Meaning that my twin sister and I were coincidentally named Light and Dark! It’s my new favorite fun fact about my family :)

How do believers explain everyone in the temple receiving the same name on a given day?

Remove this if it breaks any rules, but I think it should be good. This isn’t intended to be a β€œGotcha” question. I’m genuinely curious. I don’t intend to lead anyone away from faithfulness. I think everything I talk about here should be common knowledge to everyone who’s worked in the temple. Correct me if any of thid

I haven’t been a part of the church in over a year due to personal experiences, but over the past few months I’ve become increasingly interested in diving deeper into the church and its history and stuff.

Everyone who goes through the temple receives a name, which is supposed to be the name of their spirit or something which they went by in the premortal life and will go by for eternity as well. But everyone who gets endowed on a given day receives one the same two names, depending on their gender, unless it matches their β€œmortal” name, in which case they usually get Adam or Eve.

My question is this: How do believers justify this? If everyone who gets endowed today has a spirit named Joel or Esther, wouldn’t that eliminate the possibility of agency or free will? Genuinely curious to hear your thoughts on this.

Imagine if you were given the opportunity to change a groups fandom name

This all started when I mentioned that if I were given the opportunity to change Cherry Bullet’s fandom name, I would change it to β€œAmmo” rather then Lullet. So then it started thinking it would be fun to make this a game and give alternate choices for groups with..less then stellar fandom names. Honestly it doesn’t even have to be a fandom name you think is β€œbad”. If you have a group you have a fandom name choice you think is good, while still thinking the original is good, feel free to list!

Lullet ➑️ Ammo

Ammo powers bullets like how the spirit of Ammo’s powers Cherry Bullet to move fowards and become stronger.

Orbit ➑️ Solis

Loona (Luna) is the latin word for moon so I thought it kinda fit for their fandom name to be the latin word for sun which is Solis. Both can exist without the other after all.

Goldness ➑️ Luster

Luster is the thing that makes gemstones/special metals like gold shine, just like how Luster makes Golden Child shine even brighter.

And thats all the suggestions I have for now. Anyways I hope you enjoy this little game I made, cause I certainly had fun with it. Have fun and stay safe!

(Also please make something for DIA and Block B’s fandom name, someone quick I beg you-)

You find a death note lying on the ground. You pick it up and it claims to kill anyone’s whose name is written on the note (other rules given below). What WYR do in this situation?
  1. The human whose name is written in this note shall die.

  2. This note will not take effect unless the writer has the person's face in their mind when writing his/her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.

  3. If the cause of death is written within the next 40 seconds of writing the person's name, it will happen. If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a heart attack.

  4. (Edit) You can destroy the notebook

  5. The owner of the note will have a death god constantly with them. The death god is neither against nor in support of the owner, he just watches over.

  6. The owner and the people who come in contact with the note can see the death god

Note : The above concept is the concept of death note the anime, I do not own it. This is just used for a fun WYR game
