A list of puns related to "James McNair"
Help! I just drove 14 hours to my in-laws for Thanksgiving and was planning to make this delicious Walnut Sesame Pie from James Mcnair's Pie Cookbook and I realized I left the book on my kitchen counter. >.< Does anyone out there have this cookbook and could tell me the recipe?? I can't find it online and I don't have time to order a new copy of the book. Fingers crossed someone out there on r/baking has this book. Thanks in advance!
271 Quarterbacks have been drafted since the year 2000. The average QB career is 4.4 years, the average nfl career is 3.3 years.
4 Super Bowls have featured an undrafted QB, and of those, Kurt Warner has won (versus Steve McNair who was the 3rd overall pick).
Other times the Super Bowl winning QB was picked well behind their opposition:
Bart Starr (Round 17) over Len Dawson (Round 1) in 1967
Roger Staubach (Round 10) over Bob Griese (Round 1) in 1972
Roger Staubach (Round 10) over Craig Morton (Round 1) in 1978
Joe Montana (Round 3) over Dan Marino (Round 1) in 1985
Joe Montana (Round 3) over John Elway (Round 1) in 1990
Jeff Hostetler (Round 3) over Jim Kelly (Round 1) in 1991
Mark Rypien (Round 6) over Jim Kelly (Round 1) in 1992
Brett Favre (Round 2) over Drew Bledsoe (Round 1) in 1997
Brad Johnson (Round 9) over Rich Gannon (Round 4) in 2003
Tom Brady (Round 6) over Donovan McNabb (Round 1) in 2005
Drew Brees (Round 2) over Peyton Manning (Round 1) in 2010
Russell Wilson (Round 3) over Peyton Manning (Round 1) 2014
Tom Brady (Round 6) over Russell Wilson (Round 3) in 2015
Tom Brady (Round 6) over Matt Ryan (Round 1) in 2017
Tom Brady (Round 6) over Jared Goff (Round 1) in 2019
Tom Brady (Round 6) over Patrick Mahomes (Round 1) in 2021
Aaron Rodgers was a first-round pick in 2005. But he was selected behind:
Alex Smith
Ronnie Brown
Braylon Edwards
Cedric Benson
Cadillac Williams
Adam Jones
Troy Williamson
Antrel Rolle
Carlos Rogers
Mike Williams
DeMarcus Ware
Shawne Merriman
Jammal Brown
Thomas Davis
Derrick Johnson
Travis Johnson
David Pollack
Erasmus James
Alex Barron
Marcus Spears
Matt Jones
Mark Clayton
Fabian Washington
Randy Moss was the 21st overall pick. Jerry Rice was the 16th overall pick. That's 35 players who were regarded as more valuable than the two best Wide Receivers in NFL history.
Emmit Smith was pick 17.
Almost every eligible draft class has produced at least one Hall of Fame player regardless how weak that class was deemed to be by experts.
How many times have two 1st round quarterbacks ever faced off in the Super Bowl? It has happened a grand total of 11 times. And the last time it happened happens to be the only time in which both players were #1 overall. That showdown took place in 2016 between Peyton Manning and Cam Newton.

Sorry for the wait for those of you who enjoyed my last post (which was admittedly much more popular than I was expecting). I don't have time to write this much during the week and if I posted on Sunday, it would get lost in the game threads and highlights, so Saturday is really the only day I can post this.
Link to Part 1 for an explanation of the criteria: Bottom Tier (21-30) Basically, a quarterback must have started at least one Super Bowl in their career without winning one. Read the intro to Part 1 for a full explanation.
20. Jake Delhomme, Super Bowl XXXVIII (Carolina Panthers)
Delhomme played for four different teams in his fifteen year career, spending six seasons with the Saints and seven with the Panthers. A native of Lafayette, Louisiana, Delhomme stayed close to home and played college football at Southwestern Louisiana (now known as the University of Louisiana at Lafayette). He was not selected in the 1997 NFL Draft. He once again stayed close to home when he signed with his home state New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent.
Delhomme spent six seasons with the Saints as a backup while the team went through a starting QB carousel that included the likes of Heath Shuler, Billy Joe Tolliver, Kerry Collins, and Aaron Brooks. He started just two games as a Saint, both in 1999, going 1-1. He also spent some time in NFL Europe, where he was the backup to future MVP Kurt Warner on the Amsterdam Admirals in 1998.
Prior to the 2003 season, Delhomme signed with the Carolina Panthers, and posted strong performances in the preseason that convinced the Panthers to keep him as the second string QB behind starter Rodney Peete. The Panthers were a team just two years removed from going 1-15, and they were hoping Peete and second year head coach John Fox could restore them to some degree of relevancy.
Trailing 14-0 at the half against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the season opener, the Panthers benched Peete and sent Delhomme into the game. Delhomme threw three second half touchdowns and led the Panthers to a dramatic 24-23 comeback victory, giving Fox the confidence needed to stick with Delhomme. Delhomme started the remaining 15 games, shocking the league by leading the Panthers to an 11-5 record and their first division championship since 1996. Delhomme passed for 3219 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions in 2003.

25' - Goal! Boro 1 - 0 Swans: Jones
He exploits the space between Manning (pushed up) and Williams (dragged inside), and gets a free run at goal. Two options in the box makes it easy to pass into the near corner
45' - One on one opportunity for Paterson. Two bad touches but he's past the keeper and waits for the challenge. It comes but the ref gives him a yellow instead. Should have been 1-1.
52' - Great through ball by Naughton to Piroe. He rounds the keeper and his shot is cleared off the line by McNair
I was wondering which first name had the most combined passing yards, so I figured it out. It turns out the Steves have thrown for 238,118 yards - about 7,000 more yards than the Jims have. While I was at it, I grabbed the top ten rushing names and receiving names, too. This just uses the first name that the player goes by, so "Dave" and "David", for example, would be separate.

Honestly, off the top of my head, I can only think of Zendaya. Her parents were high school teachers.
Then, on the other side of the pond, where classicism is supposedly even more pervasive in acting circles to the point where even Dame Judi Dench has famously spoken out about it, I can only think of James McAvoy and Olivia Cooke as actors that come from a working-class background.
Doing lottery drafts this far out always seems so pointless. The lottery is unpredictable. A few people come out winners and just as many come out losers. To sit here and pretend that we know that Paolo Banchero will be a Piston 7 months from now is a fruitless endeavor. If we had done this this time last year, we’d be saying that Cade Cunningham would be a Minnesota Timberwolf. Instead, no one was a Minnesota Timberwolf, which honestly feels like a good thing? Sorry Minny fans.
So I propose a more fruitful exercise. Instead of thinking about who teams would pick if the lottery didn’t exist and the season ended right away, let’s think about which teams and players are the best fits for each other. Sure, a handful of teams would draft Paolo Banchero if the lottery odds rolled the right way. But which team would he be the best fit on? Which team would allow him to develop and grow as a player the best? Who is his organizational soulmate?
To keep things cleaner, I will not be including teams currently projected to make the play-in. In the west, this is a pretty clear line of teams that are competitive and which are destined for a high pick. In the east things are a little less clear, as the Knicks, currently 11th in the standings, visibly believe they have what it takes to be a play-in team at the very least. I could easily see a team like the Cavs fall for and for the Knicks to take their place. But for right now, let's just say the Knicks miss the play-in.
So let’s start without further ado here are my top prospects and their one true lottery love.
PAOLO BANCHERO X OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER
It’s particularly hard to pick a perfect fit for Paolo, as they’re all pretty solid. He seems to be after all, a guy who is ready to plug and play, could slide into either big man position. He’ll probably be better suited as a 5 though, which brings me to why OKC is a perfect fit.
OKC has invested no significant draft capital into the center position or any big man position really. The 6’8” JRE playing most of their center minutes in their 72 point loss to the Grizzlies is evidence of this. Their first round picks in this decade have been positionless jumbo ?s of players. Giddey is the good kind of question mark, the type that you send a friend after texting them “my place or yours” and forgetting to include a question mark. There’s some maneuverability in what Giddey becomes and where he slots into OKC lineups, but wherever he is, he’ll be good. Poku meanwhile

> In the same sense that the Barnes pick made rival execs wonder about Siakam, this pick had a similar effect among the outside-looking-in crowd when it came to questions about Fox and whether anyone might be able to pry him away now. The Kings, to be clear, still appear to be all in on the 23-year-old who is coming off his best season and whose five-year, $163 million extension kicks in this season.
> With questions swirling about whether the 6-foot-2 Mitchell can guard up, so to speak, slowing the 6-5 Bouknight was a great sign. But for the Kings’ purposes, sources say it was his defense of 6-8 No. 1 pick Cade Cunningham last season when Baylor faced Oklahoma State that convinced them he could guard bigger talents. And make no mistake, that kind of defense was nowhere to be found in a Kings game last season when they had the league’s worst unit on that end.
> During McNair’s time in Houston, where he worked under Daryl Morey in the Rockets front office before he headed for Philadelphia and alongside then-Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni on the analytics front, the James Harden-Chris Paul-Eric Gordon lineup was a regular part of the Rockets’ routine as they contended for a title. That trend continued with Paul after he was traded to Oklahoma City, as the Thunder’s three-point-guard lineup of Paul, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Dennis Schröder was the league’s best three-man lineup in the 2019-20 season.

How the South Carolina House got to 'yes'
By BEN SCHRECKINGER 07/08/2015 Updated 07/09/2015
>With sandy-blond hair and blue eyes, Quinn, 50, is the picture of a good ol’ boy. He’s the descendant of four Confederate veterans, two killed in action, and a proponent of flag removal. He’s the son of Lindsey Graham adviser Richard Quinn, who once edited the neo-Confederate Southern Partisan magazine, and he is also an old friend of Clementa Pinckney, the Democratic state senator and minister who was one of nine black churchgoers slain in Charleston in June, allegedly, by a white supremacist, an attack that put the flag back in the national spotlight.
US Department of Justice- Kevin Marsh Sentencing
>United States District Judge Mary Lewis sentenced Marsh to 24 months in federal prison, to be followed by a three-year term of court-ordered supervision. There is no parole in the federal system. Judge Lewis also imposed a fine of $200,000. Under the terms of his plea agreement, Marsh paid $5 million in federal forfeiture prior to his sentencing.

This is the official r/space megathread for the launch of the James Webb Space Telescope, you're encouraged to direct posts about the mission to this thread, although if it's important breaking news it's fine to post on the main subreddit if others haven't already.
#Details
Happy holidays everyone! After years of delays, I can't believe we're finally here. Today, the joint NASA-ESA James Webb Space Telescope (J.W.S.T) will launch on an Ariane-5 rocket from Kourou, French Guiana at 7:20 EST / 12:20 UTC. For those that don't know, this may be the most important rocket launch this century so far. The telescope it'll carry into space is no ordinary telescope - Webb is a $10 billion behemoth, with a 6.5m wide primary mirror (compared to Hubble's 2.4m). Unlike Hubble, though, Webb is designed to study the universe in infrared light. And instead of going to low Earth orbit, Webb's being sent to L2 which is a point in space several times further away than the Moon is from Earth, all to shield the telescope's sensitive optics from the heat of the Sun, Moon and Earth.
What will Webb find? Some key science goals are:
Image the very first stars and galaxies in the universe
Study the atmospheres of planets around other stars, looking for gases that may suggest the presence of life
Provide further insights into the nature of dark matter and dark energy
However, like any good scientific experiment, we don't really know what we might find!
#FAQs:
Q: When is the launch time?
A: Today, at 7:20 am EST / 12:20 UTC, see above links to convert into your timezone. The weather at Kourou looks a little iffy so there is a chance today's launch gets postponed until tomorrow morning due to unacceptably bad weather.
Q: How long until the telescope is 'safe'?
A: 29 days! Even assuming today's launch goes perfectly, that only marks the beginning of a nail-biting month-long deployment sequence, where the telescope gradually unfurls in a complicated sequence that must be executed perfectly or the telescope is a failure... and even after that, there is a ~6 month long commissioning period before the telescope is ready to start science. So it will be many months before we get our first pictures fro

> When Curry considers the construction of the team and his current responsibilities within the Warriors ecosystem, he grins. “Well, it's also weird because when we won our first championship, in 2015, Jordan Poole was 15 years old,” he says. “Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody were like freshmen in high school, and now they're here. It's weird to think they were watching us like we were almost basketball gods.” He laughs, and then offers an accepting shrug. “And now they're here helping us do it again.” > > This specific nostalgia rings true for Jordan Poole, who summons a specific memory of Curry's greatness: his infamous game-winning pull-up three against Oklahoma City in 2016. “I grew up in Milwaukee, so I was mostly getting Eastern Conference games on television,” Poole says. “That was the rare night I got a Western Conference game, and it didn't disappoint.” > > ----- > > Curry's coach at Davidson, Bob McKillop, is one of the few people who can remember when Curry truly was an underdog. He was a three-star recruit who was all but ignored by Division I colleges, most notably Virginia Tech—alma mater of his NBA-famous father, Dell, and the school Curry had eyed for himself. Davidson was one of the only schools to offer Curry a scholarship, a choice the program made because of his resiliency, McKillop says. “We went to see him play in Vegas in an AAU tournament the summer before his senior year,” McKillop tells me. “He played in one of the auxiliary gyms, not the main gym. There were very few people at the game, and even fewer coaches. I felt pretty good knowing that only a couple of guys were watching him.” McKillop waits a beat before the reveal. “And he was awful. He threw the ball into the stands, he dropped passes, he dribbled off his foot, he missed shots. But never once during that game did he blame an official, or point a finger at a teammate. He was always cheering from the bench, he looked in his coaches eyes, and he never flinched. That stuck with me.” > > ----- > > His prolonged contest with LeBron James is now one of the great sports duels of our era, one that added yet another chapter late last season, when James hit a three-pointer over Curry's outstretched arms in the dwindling moments of the play-in game that would send the Lakers into the playoffs. > > Curry looks upon the James rivalry almost with a

This is just the second time it has happened in franchise history. The first time was McNair leading the short-lived Tennessee Oilers in the 1997 and 1998 seasons.
Somewhat inspired by this post, but also because I was curious to see how heavy Pro Bowl talent correlated with Super Bowl victories.
Edit: As some of you requested in the comments, I implemented this same process using All Pros instead of Pro Bowls in a new thread here, if you are still interested :)
Methodology
I looked at which teams had the most Pro Bowls in their conferences using PFR, and the team with more Pro Bowlers won. If two teams had the same amount of Pro Bowlers, then the number of All Pros was the tiebreaker. (I had some creative writing fun below each year; I hope that is okay).
