A list of puns related to "Jackson Soloist"
Welcome to month four here at Golden Age of Gospel, where we're sharing and discussing the best music ever recorded. Here I see 30 Redditors notable for their wisdom, attractiveness, and superlative taste in music. I am glad you're here and appreciate you sticking around. And if you're passing by and haven't subbed, take some great music and come back soon. More great music awaits.
September was dedicated to songwriter Charles A. Tindley and a bit more challenging than I thought it would be. For something much easier, and I'm all about making my life easier, October will feature gospel's true international superstar, Mahalia Jackson. YouTube is filled with music and videos of Mahalia and I think I've seen all of them. I'm really looking forward to sharing the best with you. I generally post two songs/videos a day. For October, I'll be sharing one song or video of Mahalia a day. I don't want to out-Mahalia you, and there's so much to share from her that I predict one or two other months in the future to cover the best of what she recorded. For each day's second post, I'll include other musicians who may or may not have been associated with Mahalia just to mix it up. We all need diversity.
Mahalia recorded from 1931 to 1971. Her first singles were produced by the owner of some funeral homes in Chicago, but these have been lost. She later recorded 4 songs for Decca, 71 for Apollo, and 28 albums for Columbia. Her style changed quite a bit from the time she started to the time she died in early 1972.
If you're a reader, I highly recommend Laurraine Goreau's biography Just Mahalia, Baby. You will definitely get a very clear, vivid picture of who Mahalia Jackson was, what she overcame, and what she became during her life. Strong willed, dedicated, hilarious, devout, and anointed to sing God's word. Goreau was a personal friend, sometime songwriter, and she writes in a way that makes the reader feel genuine affection for Mahalia. That book is like 600 plus pages long, impressive in its scope. Best to get it right before a huge snowstorm or, God forbid, another lockdown. Jackson also published an autobiography titled Movin' On Up. It has plenty of her perspective on growing up and her experiences in music, but it's not as detailed as Goreau's book.
November will be dedicated to Thomas A. Dorsey, the "Father of Gospel Music". Dorsey is credited with writing THREE THOUSAND SONGS (how???), one thousand of them in gospel, so I hope to have no end of artists t

Hi r/guitar,
I currently play on an Ibanez RGA42 bought second-hand and I'm looking to buy a new one to give me motivation and to change the tuning of the Ibanez to D. My level is between beginner and intermediate.
I wonder what you guys think about the Jackson SL4X Soloist knowing that my favorite genres are Heavy Metal, Hard Rock and classic Rock song in general ?
Thanks for your answers :)
I'm just trying to get a good shoegaze toan!
I canβt find any info online, my volume knob has play in it, and since the only Knob on the guitar is the volume knob, and it also has no visible set screw, I took the back plate off to take a look, no success on taking off the volume knob, before I go and start yanking On it, I need to know how to take off a Jackson dome style volume knob with out breaking anything thank you π
So this guitar looks very nice looking, and I'm sure with the factors like the pickups and the bridge that it has value. But I've seen several guitar that have a metal/ hard rock look pretty decent and sound very good for half the price or 3/4 quarters than the price of this guitar.
My question why does the guitar cost so much can please tell me a reason why? this guitar cost $2600 more than the classic gibson les paul that i got which was at least $2,000.

I've wanted a Jackson since I was a kid in the '90s, but never got around to finding one that I could justify buying. As sort of a pandemic-present to myself, I splurged on this SL2Q in the "Northern Lights" (the aurora, not the marijuana strain) finish. I'm a bit of a Space Nerd as well, so that really appealed to me, too XD
Also, I feel like the hard-tail Soloists aren't as popular, and I already have enough floating-tremolo guitars, so that added extra Cool Points to the tally. The caveat is that because this isn't an American-made model (it's Indonesian) they use cheap plastic nuts, and with the extreme break-angle from the nut to the tuning posts on the first, second, and third string, the strings were binding causing tuning issues. Normally, these models would come with a locking-nut, which would compensate for that. So, I spent $12 and upgraded to a Graph Tech TUSQ XL nut; haven't had a problem since! B)

Growing up I had a Jackson, absolutely loved it. Total shredding machine. Unfortunately I had to sell all my gear 10 years ago, and even though I picked up a badass Jazzmaster for myself last Christmas to start playing again, something still felt missing.
Last weekend I was just farting around on Sweetwater and saw this guitar and I HAD to have it. Impulse purchase time! I've only had this thing for a few hours but hot damn does it rock, super fast neck, sustain for days, plus it's just a treat to look at!

Edit: Not sure why there's a greenish tint in these photos but the guitar is matte satin black.
