Despite nearly 30 Years of separation between Patera's firing in 1982 and Carroll's hiring in 2010, both happened to have served under the HOF tutelage of the legendary Bud Grant.
Jack Patera was defensive line coach for Grant's Vikings from 1969-1975.
Pete Carroll got his first significant NFL experience with the Vikings as their DB coach, starting in 1985 (Grant's last year in the league).
It's crazy to think that a franchise that is quickly approaching it's 50th Year of Existence could still be tied between just one person.
