Has anybody with Irish ancestry been able to find anything on their ancestors relevant to the Rebellion of 1798?

It's a highly interesting, involved, and important chapter in Irish history, and with so many of us with Irish background, I have to wonder if anybody here has any interesting family lore that they've uncovered from their genealogical research. Unfortunately my Irish lines have all been very hard to trace back beyond the turn of the 19th century, so this epoch just before that makes me wonder all the more.

What sort of state would have been founded had the United Irishmen been successful in the Irish Rebellion of 1798?

In history classes in Irish schools we were always taught that Wolfe Tone and the Ulstermen were inspired by the French and American revolutions to rebel against the British crown, but obviously there are substantial differences between these revolutions and between the thinkers who inspired them. So would I be correct in thinking these Protestant landowners would be more like the American founding fathers than the French revolutionaries or is there evidence to counter this?

Questions about Irish Rebellion of 1798

Hi! I had a few questions about some details in the Irish Rebellion of 1798.

Was there a particular event that was the tipping point that caused the rebellion to start?

What opinion did the English have of the Irish during the time?

Who were the central figures or heroes on either side of the conflict?

Exactly how outnumbered & outclassed were the Irish?

Thanks for any help on the topic!

Would it have been possible for Napoleon to have overthrown Britain through aiding the Irish Rebellion of 1798? Why or why not?

What changes would have happened if this occurred? Did the French have enough power to do this? Would Ireland have become independent through their help if they could not defeat Britain?
