A list of puns related to "Homework (Daft Punk album)"
Sometimes I forget this subreddit isn't just a giant squad of music producers, and it's easy to drift into assumptions and vocabularies that lose everyone. I assume there are many Daft Punk fans that just want to know how it all works... Anyways, I'm going to explain what's going on in this recently discovered magazine scan where Thomas and Guy-Man explained their production technique. I'm talking about the bottom-left bubble labeled "Example of production".
#Equipment explained You'll see a lot of equipment listed in this scan, or even in photos of their home studio. You might not know what a single one of these things actually are, so I'll explain each starting with the simplest and most common things. (in the photo, we see a Roland TR-909 atop a Roland S-760 sampler and an unidentified piece of gear. In front of Thomas, we see a Juno synthesizer and a Mackie mixer. On the shelf, we see a Roland TB-303, which was used in Da Funk. Closest to the camera, we see an IOMEGA ZIP drive with a SCSI cable running to the S-760. It's assumed the figure to the left is Daniel Bangalter, Thomas's 70s music producing father, who is credited in the production of their album)
##Mixer This is just a standard mixer - probably a Mackie MS1202. Mixers are the lifeblood of any production. They allow you to control the volume, pan, stereo separation, solo, and mute for each instrument being ran through them. They combine all incoming signals into a single output signal.
##Sound Source This is very very broad. This could be a drum machine like a Roland 909 or LinnDrum, a guitar, a synthesizer like a Juno, a sampler, etc. These are the instruments that create the sounds - the second to the first piece of the chain.
##Control By Macintosh These days, computers can generate realtime 44.1kHz audio from dozens of virtual instruments without any problem. Back then, it was different. Computers were used, but they merely created MIDI signals. They didn't outright create any sound. Notes and patterns were pre-made on the Macintosh, and that triggered the instruments and samplers to play. That way, they could do many many repetitive takes and attempts without having to play it, by hand, perfectly. This was probably done mostly to free up their hands to control other things that the computer could not control, like effects units:
##Effects An effect unit is a box
... keep reading on reddit β‘It's crazy that time passes quickly. For a few days, this album and I have the same age! Sometimes I wonder if itβs not destiny... Anyway, 20 years ago, electronic music experienced a big change when the release of this wonderful album. It embodies the success, the change, the new and the renewal (in the electronic musical field). He has changed the vision of the House and Techno concept tremendously. He has democratized these musical styles, feared by the general public, which today accepted it as such. This album became cult, and for good reason, it did not take a wrinkle, on the contrary. "Da Funk back to the punk come on !Β Β» is always so exciting! Let us not forget the famous D.A.F.T. Charles and tomato recipe will remain the best video clips in the history of electronic music. This album is a condensed of the 90s. Musically, this album is hyper powerful and poetic. Daft Punk did well their homework. Happy Birthday HOMEWORK, and thank you Thomas and Guy-Man.
Hey everyone, weβre a community-focused music journalism outlet looking to build a more inclusive environment for music-based discussion. Anyone can contribute a score and help us decide on the top tracks for the albums we review.
We are currently polling for Homework (review next week!), in honor of it turning 25 this month and would love to have the input of this subreddit for it!

SPECTACULAR. I don't know what to say. I'm definitely giving this a few more listens for sure! The only ones I knew before listening to this album was Get Lucky, and Lose Yourself to Dance. I used to listen to those songs all the time when I was a kid! But now, just WOW. This production was extremely thought out and executed really well too. Touch almost made me cry. I see why people always get teared up at that one. It is amazing. Instant Crush obviously became an instant favorite. Give Life Back to Music was a bombastic opener! Within...brilliant. I heavily related to the lyrics as it went on. Fragments of Time was great too! Beyond was such a vibe. Basically a favorite as well! What a way to close the album with Contact! The 70s to 80s disco/post-disco production was IMMACULATE in this. I just got to listen to it all over again! I've already listened to Discovery, and Human After All as well. Haven't listened to all of Homework yet. But I just thought that I'd share my opinion on this amazing album. Might delete this soon. Or not.

For any Daft Punk fans that are looking for recommendations / similar music, I have compiled 800 albums across all eras, new & old, that you might enjoy. I have now included Apple Music playlists. I didn't add / remove any albums from v1.
Below is a list of the deltas awarded in this post.
Please note that a change of view is not necessarily a reversal, and that OP awarding a delta doesn't mean the conversation has ended.
