A list of puns related to "Hiligaynon language"
I'm a native speaker of Cebuano, a language in the Philippines, and though Bisaya is in itself considered a language (as it should!), some linguists apparently think that Cebuano-Waray-Hiligaynon-etc. (the Visayan languages) form more of a dialect continuum than being a group of separate languages. Like dialects of Bisaya, the language.
I'd accept that for Hiligaynon, because as a Cebuano speaker I've had a full conversation with a Hiligaynon speaker without even realizing (it was pretty confusing but overall intelligible). Waray-Waray, on the other hand... I've had conversations with Waray people and the words are incredibly different. I think it's a totally different language from Cebuano and Hiligaynon. I'd accept Cebuano and Hiligaynon as dialects of each other, but Waray-Waray? I don't think so....
Why is it so different? Was there a different civilization/culture in Leyte before, separate from the nearby Visayan islands?
I'm from Southern Leyte, but I know that I speak Cebuano due to migration, so the question is still worth asking.
The American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) is looking for native Hiligaynon speakers to serve as part-time language proficiency testers. You must be based in the U.S., have valid work permission in the U.S., and attend one in-person training session, with all expenses paid by ACTFL.
At the in-person training, youβd learn how to use a rating scale of speaking proficiency. Then, once someone needs to be rated, youβd talk on the phone with someone who is learning Hiligaynon and determine that personβs speaking rating. We donβt expect youβd have more than a few of these appointments per month, with each lasting about 30 minutes.
Attending an ACTFL language proficiency tester training is an opportunity to support learners of your native language, meet language professionals, and become involved in the work of a highly recognized foreign language association. There is payment available for undergoing this training; in addition, certified language testers are paid per test conducted.

What do you think?
Hello all,
I am relocating to Iloilo next year and I want to learn how to speak Ilonggo fluently. There are not a lot of resources online. I want to pickup the language quickly and feel a in-person tutor would be the way to go.
Does anyone know of a tutor or classes I can take to learn this language.
Gaano ka-ganda Gaano ka-taas Gaano ka-lalim
Ang "g" and "k" ay parang pareho sa pagpronounce pero ang "g" ay kasama ang boses at "k" ay hindi.
Just wondering if anyone has the same experience me. Basically, I was never "taught" my native language - Hiligaynon. I'm not sure if there's even a course for it. Everything I know, I know through experience. I spoke in it all the time up until high school. I would exchange short notes and text messages in shorthand with fellow speakers and that's the most writing/reading I've encountered in my language.
For every other language I know and use, I was taught at school and had loads of resources to learn and practice with except actual people who are fluent in the language (not counting the teachers). English had the most use, so I was better at it first. Then Filipino when I moved to the capital.
Now I'm wondering if there's a course for my language (I'll be looking it up) and if it would be useful to actually know the formal grammar, spelling, etc...
I'm actually kinda scared of losing it since it's no longer the default language used at home and I have little hope that my son will learn it from me.
I noticed most of the time Philippine languages barely has any one word syllable aside from particles, pronouns and contractions.

The /r/rupaulsdragrace mod team and is looking to expand! In the new year we'll be hosting discussions for Drag Race Season 14, Drag Race Philippines, Drag Den, Drag Race France, and many many more forthcoming seasons, and we need YOU to join us to help out!
We are especially interested in finding users who:
Have experience with graphic design. With so many new seasons of so many versions of drag race happening, our team is struggling to keep up with the demand of keeping our sub designs updated to current seasons without overworking our graphic designers. If you know a thing or two about designing assets in photoshop, it would GREATLY improve your chances of being taken on!
Live in the Philippines or speak Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilocano, Hiligaynon, or any other language you think will be useful for moderating discussions in /r/DragRacePhilippines
Live in a European time zone, especially if you live specifically in the UK or France or speak French, as we need mods for /r/rpdr_UK and /r/DragRaceFrance
Identify as a person of color, regardless of whether you fit any of the other criteria we are looking for. In the past we have avoided a call specifically looking for POC mods because the BIPOC members of our mod team had concerns about tokenizing and didn't want to pressure new members of the team to divulge any personal information they weren't comfortable sharing, but the sentiment has changed. And given that the last few rounds of mod applications focused on hiring mods for Drag Race Canada, Drag Race EspaΓ±a, Drag Race Holland, Drag Race Italy, and Drag Race UK, we feel it's time to ask for POC applicants in order to maintain a racially diverse team.
We are endeavoring to always expand and increase the diversity of our mod team to ensure the difficult discussions raised by the show are moderated by people who understand the full cultural context in which these discussions are being held.
Note: if you've applied before and are still interested, please apply again!

So I was reading the wikipedia page for Hiligaynon (link), and in the grammar section it shows that verbs are inflected for real and unreal aspects. At first I thought they were referring to irrealis and realis moods, but then I realized that the chart they used already distinguished moods that would've been covered by irrealis mood. So what exactly are real and unreal aspects?
Thanks in advance!
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Sitting in my in laws house, my FIL thinks sleeping past 7 is bad, so I got up early and am working on this and pretending to be asleep bc I think its funny to mess with him and pretend to sleep till 10-1030. Not sure how the rest of this prank will end but YOLO! Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas! Meet the Maguindanao in Philippines!

In considering temperature, location in terms of latitude and longitude is not a significant factor, and temperatures at sea level tend to be in the same range. Altitude usually has more of an impact. The average annual temperature of Baguio at an elevation of 1,500 meters (4,900Β ft) above sea level is 18.3Β Β°C (64.9Β Β°F), making it a popular destination during hot summers. Annual rainfall measures as much as 5,000 millimeters (200Β in) in the mountainous east coast section but less than 1,000 millimeters (39Β in) in some of the sheltered valleys.

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
