I'm not sorry for the puns in the title.
So, my girlfriend and I have continued our watch-through of Buffy. I gave an update on her devastation and heartbreak after Innocence. I held off updating after we watched Passion, much as I wanted to, since I didn't want to spam the sub too much; I figured I'd save this next update for when we reached the end of season 2.
Anyway, the next time we sat down to watch Buffy together after seeing Innocence, she demanded to know before we started if the next episode would be as heartbreaking. We'd already seen Phases, so next up was Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered. I told her, without giving anything away, that it was a funny one. She enjoyed it quite a bit, and asked whether the next one was a good story, too. (She had spent all of Innocence insisting sadly, "I don't like this story!") I told her, honestly, that I thought the next episode was a good story, and when she saw the title, Passion, as I queued up the DVD, she got excited, saying, "Ooh, passion! Passion is very important."
Well, we watched the episode...and she was maaaad! She pretended to strangle me, exclaiming, "You said this was a good story!" I, laughing, told her that I never said it would be a HAPPY story. As we got ready for bed (we tend to watch Buffy late, since we're both busy people), all she would say was, "You are liar," "Terrible," "I wanted a happy story," and something that's very difficult to translate but loosely translates to "Regretably, Ms. Calendar died!" I finally got one begrudging "ai shiteru" (Japanese for "I love you") just before we went to sleep.
We proceeded through the rest of season 2 as time went on, and finally arrived at Becoming. The whole back half of the season, she had been insisting that all she wanted was the old Angel back. We watched part 1 of the finale, and before putting on the next one, I asked her, "So? Do you still want Angel back? Or do you agree with Xander that he should die? He did kill Ms. Calendar, and unlike Spike and Drusilla, there's no love in his heart. As a vampire, he's just evil, and has done terrible things."
It was at this point that she finally showed a break in her resolve and admitted, "I don't know what I want!"

So, I've started Buffy season 4 with my girlfriend, and she's taking Oz and Willow's relationship pretty hard. Her default response to these heartbreak-y moments in the show seems to be pretending to get super mad at me...at least I'm pretty sure she's pretending!
These posts have gotten waaay long, so I'll just put a few of her most entertaining responses here.
When I pulled out my season 4 DVD case, she saw short-haired Willow on the cover and asked, in Japanese, "Who is that?" I guess in fairness it is a pretty dramatic change...
Apparently, having a roommate like Kathy (Living Conditions) is a cross-cultural experience. Even here in Japan, if you live in a dorm, you will get stuck with someone who'll slowly drive you insane.
She's a huge Buffy/Angel shipper, so as Buffy and Parker were getting close, I asked her for her thoughts on him. She said something like, "I guess he's okay...but I like Angel." After it's revealed that he's a scumbag, she said, "See? I knew!" Now that it's becoming clear that Riley is the next romantic interest for Buffy, I asked her for her thoughts on him. She gave me a look and said, "I like Angel." Guess she's made her preference pretty clear, to no one's surprise. Poor Riley, nobody likes you. Though after it's revealed he's with the Initiative, she did say "It suits him." We'll see how her thoughts on him change as we progress further.
Speaking of Parker: when he starts hitting on Willow, my girlfriend said, "No! Get away! Don't touch Willow! I wanna touch Willow!" As previously mentioned, she also admitted to finding Vampire Willow sexy. I am so glad we can agree on the important things...

Weโve always had a surface level relationship with my in-laws because my husband canโt stand their BS. MIL in particular is toxic but very sweet on the outside. We had a baby 3 months ago and are seeing a lot more of them. It had been going okay. My MIL is a huge Facebook user. She always removes the tag when I tag her in photos of the baby but then posts the exact same photo herself right after. I found it odd and couldnโt figure it out. Earlier this week I realized what sheโs doing. She is photoshopping the baby to remove her Angelโs Kiss birthmark. We asked her very nicely to please not photoshop baby because we donโt want her to have body image issues and sheโs perfect as is. MIL told us not to worry because itโll be gone by the time baby is one so she wonโt know about the photoshopping. Husband then called her and said we were serious. She said we couldnโt tell her what to do, we said that we make the rules with our baby and if she canโt honor this request there will be no more photos. She then started screaming and hysterically crying that God will judge us for blackmailing her and that we canโt keep her from her grandchild. FIL and BIL (who lives at home) also piled on.
My husband is used to her craziness but I am just heartbroken over it. I obviously donโt want my baby to ever feel any hurt (though I know sadly she will!) and it crushes me that her own grandmother doesnโt think sheโs perfect. Even though baby doesnโt know yet I feel this crazy instinct to protect her and donโt want my MIL around if she thinks that way. I hate conflict but will do what I need to do for my baby. I am dreading seeing her on Christmas but weโre giving her one more chance to see if she behaves since we know apologizing will never happen.
Iโm also frustrated because Iโve had some postpartum anxiety. I was doing much better but this whole experience has really aggravated it again. I knew MIL was crazy but seeing it firsthand and feeling like my baby is being attacked has really hurt me. I know I shouldnโt let her get to me but itโs putting a damper on babyโs first Christmas which I was so looking forward to.
We'd just broken up. It had only been a day, but I knew for a fact that it was over. Really and truly, forever over. And I was fucking heartbroken. It had been my first serious relationship, and I was ridiculously sad about it being over.
Now for some background - I like glitter. It's a whole thing. I know some people think it's the herpes of the craft world, and they're honestly not wrong... but I still don't give a shit. Glitter is amazing, makes the world shiny and I almost always have some on me. During our whole relationship I had had this habit of putting a single speck of glitter on him, on his things (wallet, Xbox controller, etc.) and he would always find it, and it was a cutesy thing we did.
Anyway after the breakup, Sad Me thinks to her dumb sad self that what a great idea would be is if - after he comes to get his stuff and takes it home - there are tiny speckles of glitter here, there, everywhere..! He would find them and it would of course remind him of me, of us, how shiny we were and he would come running right back to me right... or at least be appropriately sad like I was sad.
Girls are dumb, I know lol.
But it's okay because apparently I have some sort of jaded old maid for a guardian angel, and so when I opened up the toolbox (ostensibly to place a speck or two of glitter on just a few tools) somehow my hand slipped?! And I accidentally spilt the entire fucking vial of superfine gold glitter all over/in his greasy tools inside the toolbox I had only just opened. There wasn't even any glitter on the floor, it was all in the box.
There was no saving it. I knew immediately that - just like our relationship - it was done, and over. That glitter was there to stay. I closed the toolbox and left the room. He came to get his stuff two days later, and we have never spoken since.
To this day I have absolutely no idea if he ever found the glitter (he never once opened the toolbox in the six months we dated) let alone how he would have/did react. It is Schroedinger's Glitter.
