A list of puns related to "Guinness World Records Smashed"

After the massive success of Duke Nukem 3D, Duke Nukem Forever was one of the most anticipated PC games of the late 90s. It was going to be the biggest hit of 1997. Then 1998. Then 1999, 2001, 2007, 2008, 2009 and finally 2011. Wired gave the game the βVaporware of the Yearβ award twice, before giving it a lifetime achievement award in the category. The Guinness Book of World Records named it the longest development period for a video game. The completed project was universally panned, and barely sold. What the hell happened?
Duke Nukem 3D: One of the Greatest Games of the 90s
The Duke Nukem franchise began as a pair of successful side scrolling games built around dense level designs that emphasized exploration. As Apogee shifted focus to first person shooters and became 3D Realms, they decided to make the next Duke game an FPS. It took 18 months to create the game, including adding major updates to the Build engine that would carry over to over a dozen other titles, including Shadow Warrior and Redneck Rampage.
This was one of the most hyped games in 1996, as it was the first FPS that had somewhat realistic-looking locations. Improved textures and more variety in shapes meant rooms could have furniture and other features that were missing from previous games. There were also interactive objects, like a playable pool table. This didnβt just improve the look of the game, it was also a huge quality of life improvement for the genre. Now, instead of running around indistinct corridors and rooms, you got to explore recognizable areas, like bars, movie theaters, and military bases. Even levels that had repetitive rooms were easy to navigate, thanks to signage on hallways and next to doors. This opened up level design, letting player explore instead of being stuck with linear paths.
Then there were the weapons. Along with the usual guns and rocket launchers, thereβs a shrink ray, a freeze ray, remote-activated pipe bombs, and proximity mines. These weapons, combined with the detailed level designs, helped set multiplayer apart from the endless Doom clones.
The theme was different as well. Duke was created as a parody of action heroes that wouldnβt look out of place today: in the first game, he decides to fight the alien invasion, because the news bulletins are interrupting his soap operas. Duke3D leaned in on this, adding more adult humor and giving Duke a voice. It was totally unlike the serious, more violent shooters that w

Depending on your age, their video game records book may have been seen on sale at your elementary or middle school book fairs.
Billy Mitchell is a cheater who became known after the 2007 release of the documentary King of Kongs: A Fistful of Quarters where he battled fellow arcade player Steve Webbie for the high score of Donkey Kong, a 1981 platforming arcade that tasks you in saving Mario's then girlfriend Pauline from Donkey Kong.
In addition of his faked Donkey Kong scores, Mitchell was famous for being the first man to have a perfect Pac-man score allegedly, being parodied by Peter Dinklage in the 2015 action/comedy movie Pixels, and losing a lawsuit against Cartoon Network for using his likeness in the show Regular Show.
Now how he was able to keep his fakes score so for long is because of his personal friendship of Walter Day, owner of Twin Galaxies. Twin Galaxies is a organization that is dedicated to high score games of your dad's favorite video games like Pac-man, Frogger, and of course Donkey Kong. Over the years it had gained notoriety after it had been revealed that several of their scores displayed were cheated or impossible.
Todd Rogers is responsible for some of those scores such as his literally impossible game of Dragster, a game most gamers under the age of 30 don't know about. (of course, this is probably why he got away with his score for over 30 years) His score of 5.51 was deemed impossible by independent researchers like Omnigamer but that is for another story. The point really that Twin Galaxies before being bought out by Jace Hall was more than happy to let fake accomplishments on their leader board.
In 2018 though, all things came crashing down for Billy Mitchell. A post on the Donkey Kong Forum made various arguments that Billy Mitchell cheated. These included, lack of sound in Billy Mitchell's 2010 tape, level loading that resembles popular arcade emulator Mame which the original arcade can't replicate, and Billy himself never actually having a live footage of the events that showcased him scoring a million points. https://www.polygon.com/2018/2/23/17039412/billy-mitchell-donkey-kong-twin-galaxies-explainer
Needless to say that Twin Galaxies, who by the

I've always wanted to hold a Guinness Record. When I was young, some time ago, the book was all text. No pictures. I spent hours reading through it trying to find one I could break. But I didn't really have anything record-worthy that I could cash in on. So, here we are, and I'm actually completely fine with the likelihood that I won't be getting a world record by selling for the highest price. What we are witnessing, what has been happening, is far more satisfying and fulfilling than any world record I could ever hold. I <3 you all, and look forward to the work that's left to be done once the balance has shifted.
