Just seen signs up along the Grand Union in Watford that it'll be closed for 15 days from the 10th January. Looks like Cadent (gas network) is doing works that will close the canal for all traffic. The bridge is the one that carries the A412 over the canal.

On the night of April 1865, Abraham Lincoln hears a dull click behind him. A misfired weapon, Boothe then charges Lincoln with a knife and Henry Rathbone tackles him to the ground with Lincolns help. The assassin, John Wilkes Boothe, is taken in. The attempt on his life steeled Lincoln and made him decide to punish the South. He decided to put every rebel leader, estate owner, and soldier on a grand trial, akin to the Nuremberg trial.
How does reconstruction change with this? What verdict, and punishment do you think the leaders, estate owners and even soldiers would face?
Finally how would this cascade into our modern day? Without Lincoln being martyred would he still be remembered as fondly? Would the KKK have ever actually formed? Would the civil rights movement have happened earlier?
