So, at the end of the airport battle in CACW, as Rhodey and Tony are chasing after Sam and the quinjet that Steve and Bucky have commandeered, Rhodey orders Vision to target Sam's thrusters and "turn him into a glider". Vision fires, and Sam dodges at the last second (either a lucky dodge and/or Wanda telepathically warning him in time)...so Vision's beam hits Rhodey. Rhodey falls, and is paralyzed.
But this leads to an interesting hypothetical scenario: what if, instead of Rhodey, Tony was the one who got hit?
I think it would be something like this:
Rhodey orders Vision to fire on Sam. Sam dodges and Tony gets hit. Tony falls, probably thinking about his first near-death falls in Iron Man with the prototype suits the whole way down, and is paralyzed. Upon seeing Tony fall, Rhodey and Sam immediately give up chasing the Quinjet and double back to tend to Tony. Since Sam is a pararescueman, Rhodey stands by and lets him do his job tending to Tony's injuries. The whole time that he's in the ambulance taking Tony to the hospital, Rhodey is wracked with guilt. He was the one who ordered Vision to fire his beam, and he realizes that maybe that was the wrong thing to do. Not just because Tony got hit, but because if Sam hadn't dodged, he would've taken a direct hit from an Infinity Stone laser that would've blown up his jetpack and killed him (yes, Sam has a chute as seen in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but I don't know Vision's beam would've possibly destroyed the chute).
When talking with Vision in the hospital, Rhodey, trying to alleviate his guilt, wonders if Vision did this deliberately as payback for Rhodey earlier disabling Wanda with his sonic cannon or for Tony firing rockets at Wanda earlier in the battle. Anyways, he has a similar conversation with Natasha to what Tony has in the film, minus the hurtful dig Tony made towards Natasha's past, then gets the information about Zemo.
Rhodey goes to the Raft to speak to Thaddeus Ross and get information from Steve's teammates about where Steve and Bucky are. While there, he's shocked by the treatment they've been subjected to, given the bruises on Sam's face suggest he was beating beaten up by the guards and Wanda being in a straitjacket and shock collar. With the latter, Rhodey probably tries to protest, "Ross, these restraints are not authorized," but Ross refuses to listen to him. Where did people find the data for the custom MTL? Like the one lnmtl was using to bootstrap his website in the older day?
I'm planning to make an MTL webapp to, with all the complex function like sidebar term lookup, term upsert dialog and other stuff.
Actually I have created one, from chinese to vietnamese, which works pretty well so I kinda want to try to port it to english one, but the hard part is the initial process (in vietnamese there are prior arts and there are an active community for it)

There have been several approaches to apply deep learning on 3D images.
One famous approach is a neural network called PointNet, which takes 3D point clouds as input.
This network can be used for several tasks : classification, semantic segmentation and part segmentation, as shown in the image below.
The architecture of the network is surprisingly simple!
It takes N points as an unordered set of 3D points.
It applies some transformations to make sure that the order of the points would not matter.
And then, those points are passed through a series of MLPs (multi-layer perceptrons) and max pooling layers to get global features at the end.
For classification, these features are then fed to a MLP to get K outputs representing K classes.
For segmentation, another sub-neural network is added to get point wise classification.

I've heard ML or CV phd programs have a lot of funding so external funding is not that important in phd admission. Is this true? I've always been told that LOR is the most important and then the publication records and SOP. I've heard that after reading through LOR, publication records, and SOP, the decision has already been made so external funding and citizenship/green card don't really affect the decision of the committee. Is this true? I am really curious how the ML or CV phd programs decide who to admit to their programs.

This is my first entry in reddit! :) I need some help to understand and clarify in order to first step of my project starting..
I want to do a project related to computer vision/image processing, whatever the name is :) You can see a frame of the sample project in below. I want to check presence/absence of part in the box like as following. There are a lot of company and equipments, solution etc. in the industry but I'm thinking how can I do this myself?
I don't have a big budget.. I can use webcam, raspberry pi cam etc.Is it possible do that with webcam or rPi cam (with opencv for both solution)? And last question is, how is this project named? is this computer vision or image prosessing or another thing.. and do I need to ML/DL method for this application? I mean, do I need to train something for presence control?

This is a very hypothetical scenario and I'm trying to get a feel for whether it would ever make sense for a vulnerability like this to exist -- from a programming/systems design point of view (this is for a science fiction story btw). Recently there's been lots of press about vulnerabilities in self-driving cars in which an attacker would spoof the real objects that the cars' cameras are trying to track (say holding up a printout of a stop sign in front of an autonomous vehicle so it gets confused). Obviously this can work because the system's cameras are trying to track and respond to real objects, but I'm inquiring as to whether any kind of similar system might ever be vulnerable to someone spoofing augmented reality *graphics* that might be overlaid over the camera imagery to similarly confuse a robot.
Basically imagine there's a robot or drone that surveys an area with a camera and identifies certain features of the terrain, say depressions in the ground or sink holes through some kind of machine vision algorithm applied to the imagery received through the camera. The robot then autonomously navigates to and spray paints an S next to the sinkhole. Suppose the camera feed is also transmitted to some kind of nearby remote control software so that a technician is watching the feed and some kind of graphics are overlaid so that the human technician can see where the drone/robot has identified the sink hole -- Like a yellow square or something appears on screen and tracks onto the spot where the sinkhole has been ID'd by the machine vision algorithm, the way a webcam tracks a little rectangle onto your face to let you know it's found your face. The attack I'm talking about would be someone just holding up a yellow piece of paper that just looks like the AR *graphics* the denote a sinkhole, not whatever actual terrain features in the imagery the system uses to ID the sinkhole. At which point the robot would navigate to the spot where the guy with the paper rectangle was standing having been tricked into thinking it had ID'd a sinkhole. In order for this to work I guess the robot would have to make its navigation decisions based on the camera feed and the AR graphic overlays, but would it ever make any sense to program and build a robot that way, or would the AR graphics only really be for the benefit of a human observer and never any part of the actual programs decision making?
