A list of puns related to "George Herbert"
Can someone please explain what they make of this quote. I can't quite get the meaning.
I am a little confused about this. To my understanding, Charles Cooley is associated with the looking glass self which talks about how the self develops from social interactions.
Mead divides self into I and Me. The I self develops in the play stage while the me self develops in the game stage. I self is more about how person learns they are individuals separate from others. Me self develops during game phase with how kids learn about rules and their position within society?
How are these different? Is charles cooley theory have less complexity than Mead's theory?
His poetry was published posthumously by his trusted friend Nicholas Ferrar
Through my research, it seems that much of his early popularity owes something to the carefully crafted persona of "holy Mr. Herbert" promoted by Ferrar. Describing Herbert as the one who exchanged the advantages of noble birth and worldly preferment for the strains of serving at "Gods Altar,"
Given his context of widespread religious strife at the time between Catholics, Anglicans and non-conformists in England, Herbert became a model of harmonious, orderly, noncontroversial devotion for whom faith brought answers and commitment to the social establishment, not divisive questions and social fragmentation.
Maybe a patron for our times ?
