Decided to make a little helper :) their name is Sprite and mainly helps my characters Garnet with taking care of her daughter Aquamarine aswell as keeping Aqua company (tribe by u/I_love_salamanders)
Thoughts on Garnet's OTHER Name
I'm playing through FF9 for the first time ever in my quest to complete every mainline FF game, and when I reached the part where you have to name Garnet, I couldn't help but kinda laugh to myself.
Dagger? Is that seriously what they want you to call her? I usually don't care to rename characters in RPGs, but I really couldn't stand the idea of calling this sheltered princess, Dagger. That's like something a rogue would name themselves.
Am I alone here? Do people like that name? Or do you also find it kinda silly?
Do you name your pieces? If you look really close, you can see the star in that garnet π³

Here comes a thought⦠about Garnet and human names
A couple of times, we see Garnet play fast and loose with human names: she calls Vidalia "Onion Mom" and Kiki "Pizza Daughter." At the time I thought this was just another example of the CGs not getting human culture, and not having much regard for most humans.
But the other day it hit me that Garnet is, more specifically, applying gem naming conventions to humans. If you're a Pearl belonging to Yellow Diamond, you're Yellow Pearl β you don't get a proper name of your own, just a "family"/court name ("Yellow") plus a job-title name ("Pearl").
Following this convention, it makes total sense to give people ad hoc names according to their role in others' livesβ¦
This doesn't really change the fact that gems misunderstand human culture, but it gives it a nice nuance, I think. I like to think that this was on purpose, like so many other little touches in the show.
