Okay, so you know there's this scene in the movie Fritz the Cat where some college girls find a black crow, right? They crowd around him like they've never seen a black person before in their lives and ask him patronizing questions involving his ethnicity which ultimately come off as racist. The crow, fed up, responds with something along the lines of, "Who do you think I am, Geraldine?" I have no idea who Geraldine is/was in this context and would love for someone to fill me in. Thanks!

So in his stream about Google, VA, and coronavirus, at about 50 minutes in, he mentions that he was reading "Frog and Toad Take a Walk," iirc to one of his sons at the doctors office.
"I love Frog and Toad, theyre really wholesome," he says - "THEY DON'T HAVE THAT WHOLE 'GAY' UNDERCURRENT THAT NEWER KIDS BOOKS HAVE." (emphasis mine)
I about fell the fuck out of my car. Why? Allow me to explain as Vox would:
Now...what you fail to understand is...The author Arnold Lobel was gay. That's right. Queer as a $3 bill. Married with 2 kids and came out to wife and kids in 1974 before dying of AIDS in 1987.
Wiki says: "In 1974, he told his family that he was gay. He died of cardiac arrest on December 4, 1987, at Doctors Hospital in New York, after suffering from AIDS for some time."
What's more? The gay subtext of Frog and Toad has been noted for D.E.C.A.D.E.S. and is widely seen as somewhat of a triumph in showing positive homosexual relationships in children's lit. Just google "frog and toad gay" for more like this:

There is some delicious fucking irony in the fact that closeted FagBear Owen BlowsJewMen thinks that by reading Frog and Toad he is saving his kids from homosexual indoctrination...
(Full disclosure, theyre great books I read to my own kids, but I have never gone on record excoriating sodomites and then claiming that Frog and Toad were great because they werent gay.)
Not my favorite part of adulting, but if it turns out to be serious, at least we have planned to replace it. It will just be a year or two earlier than anticipated.
And as a true adult, I look forward to replacing it with an hvac unit, for ac during our 3 to 6 weeks of summer heat!
