Mine is Korn (1994). I do have others, but I’m just getting back into the band after almost a year and need to listen to the albums I have a again to determine my true favourite. I remember not liking Life Is Peachy, found it a bit underwhelming? Is that just me?

So about a month, Jonathan Davis did an interview where he was asked about doing more songs from the record, or at least being ask about KoRn performing longer shows. Jon answered back specially stating that /his voice would likely give out if he were to do more songs than the normal set list/. I forget where it was posted, but someone did post a thread about it on this subreddit about 2 months ago.
That line stuck with me the most, mainly because this is going to heavily impact the production of KoRn’s future albums and their live shows. It seems that ever since Head returning, every album so far as produce a moderate amount of songs for their live shows. Then when a new album comes, they drop most, if not all and only keep hit songs while ignoring most of their latest work.
Tbh, while I understand JD’s concern on his voice. He is getting up there in age and he can’t be screaming every night for 2 hours. However, I can’t help but to think how this will impact KoRn’s future albums. Their live shows help make their album impactful and if KoRn ends up only playing 3 songs from their latest album, only to drop them when the next one comes out? I’m not sure how I can be hyped for the next one if I know there will be a slim chance the new songs will last longer.
It almost feels like KoRn is beating a dead horse at this point, but that’s just how I feel. Anyone else getting similar vibes?
Ok, so stick with me on this one. I am an old school korn fan. Got into them around LIP time.
I think there was something special about the music that came out between albums LIP and FTL. It was the most 'korn' sounding Korn there has ever been to me. Songs like "Kick the PA" and "Proud" (I know Proud was on the demo for LIP and I don't know if it was recorded for the final LIP - but the single that was released falls into what im saying), "I can Remember", "Camel Song", "Jingle Balls (was recorded during FTL). I would not include "Sean Olsen" in this, as that seems more like 1st album sound
These songs have this sound, the guitars that go back n forth, sounding like hip hop - cypress hill like samples, JDs voice, the way Fieldy plays back between the guitars and Davids drums. Even the drum sounds we get from David. It all seems more life is peachy, However, the writing and the production seems more like Follow the leader. Brighter, more open, cleaner... more focused? Some of it, is like full on LIP sounding stuff, but with the introduction to the guitar effects you hear on Follow The Leader....
Anyways - with no real time line knowledge, I have led my self to believe this all happened between albums (not the writing, but the recording) and to me it is the perfect korn sound.
What do you think? What is your favorite Korn sound / Era? Any songs from that era that I missed?
Just list your opinions in the comments below.
Here's mine to start it off (not counting interludes):
Korn: Fav-Daddy, Least-Lies
LIP: Fav-Lost, Least-Porno Creep
FTL: Fav-Dead Bodies Everywhere, Least-All In The Family
Issues: Fav-Let's Get This Party Started, Least-Beg For Me
Untouchables: Fav-Thoughtless, Least-I'm Hiding
TALITM: Fav-When Will This End, Least-Play Me
SYOTOS: Fav-Open Up, Least-10 Or A Two-Way
Untitled: Fav-Evolution, Least-Love And Luxury
RWYA: Fav-Pop A Pill, Least-Let The Guilt Go
TPOT: Fav-Get Up, Least-Sanctuary
TPS: Fav-Love And Meth, Least-Mass Hysteria
TSOS: Fav-Insane, Least-Everything Falls Apart
I know this may sound dumb, especially coming from a guy who isn’t that familiar with his music terms, but the main thing that hooks me in is a vocal that has this kind of "flavour", like this little ring that makes it feel so much more complete, makes it stand out from most of the other bands that just sound kinda bland/generic, even a lot of the main ones, or put me off by screaming all of the lyrics. A good energetic guitar is of course appreciated but it’s just been really hard lately to find any new music with a vocal like that. Are there any other good bands that fit this memo and is there a name for this "flavour"?
In my opinion this is in their top 5 albums but that is just me personally. I want to know what everyone thinks of the nothing and where they would rank it in all of korn’s albums
do you guys think korn will ever do a Follow the Leader, Life is Peachy, or Issues album tour? honestly i'd be so fucking hyped for a life is peachy full album show. even follow the leader. I just wonder how realistic it is for them to do that. ive also seen somewhere munky has talked fondly of doing a full issues setlist in a video. i know theyve already perfomed issues in its entirety in apollo99 but just imagine them performing FTL or LIP in entirety. If they did LIP, they should bring David back to play that record just out of respect in my opinion.
Pretty cool, dont ya think?
Other then the scatted parts which songs and their parts could be consided: sing-rapping, scream rapping, spoken word rap and non commital rap off korns first two albums.
Just confused because the non scatted parts I’ve always found to hard to tell if Jonathan was singing or incorporating some kind of rap, it always seems subtle and unclear.
How it'll work: Each day I'll listen to a Korn album, multiple times if need be. I will rate each song and the album in total based on multiple factors. I want to flesh out my rating system, it'll be at the bottom of this post, so please help me decide how I'll rate songs.
About me: I'm a metalhead, plain and simple. I enjoy many different genres though, and I will remain unbiased for my reviews. For example, I am not the biggest fan of dubstep. However, I understand that just because I'm not a fan of a song or genre it does not mean it's bad. Music is subjective.
Tomorrow's Album: Korn (1993)
Rating System for a Song:
Drums: -/10
Guitar: -/10
Bass: -/10
Vocals: -/10
Lyrics: -/10
Memorableness: -/10
Short Description of things I liked and disliked about the song.
Album Rating System:
Memorableness: -/10
My Personal Enjoyment of said album: -/10
Average Score: -/10 (calculated by adding up every song's score then dividing by how many songs the album has).
That is all.
