A list of puns related to "Fender Hot Rod Deluxe"
Hi all! I hope youโve all been having a good day. Recently for my 18th birthday, I got my first tube amp. a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III. I want to like it, but it just sounds like absolute dog when playing clean, or even the drive isnโt all that great (which I have pedals to maybe fix) I did not replace the tubes, and I got it used from Guitar Center. Could you smart people help a young fella out? sound demo
so Iโm looking for my first tube amp. I play a lot of zeppelin, nirvana, Rhcp, etc. I want it to take pedals well. Iโve heard the hot rod deluxe is pretty good.
I come from a marshall Mg15cdr and now i want to change my amp. Which one you think is better with pros and cons?? Please, help
The amps needs to fit these three criteriaโs
A nice clean tone: An amp with a nice soft and enjoyable clean tone.
A great crunch tone: An amp with a great heavy crunch tone.
Takes pedals well: An amp that takes all sorts of pedals, sounds good.
Which amp do you think is the right one?
If there are any other amps that fit please let me know in the comments.
what settings could i use to get as close to gilmours tone on a fender hot rod deluxe 4
Following the earlier discussion on quiet at-home amps...
Somebody is selling a Hot Rod Deluxe 3 for not crazy money and it's tempting but the forum feedback seems to be that it's LOUD, like proper loud. I play 100% of my time at home, usually at low volume. I could probably add a cheaper resistor attenuator to it but that's about it. It's probably a bad idea, right?
Alternative is a Blues Jr 4. Looks cool potentially has the same loudness problem, a bit more expensive and no FX loop. Thanks!
Which is better for a amp with good cleans and drive? If the speaker in the hot rod deluxe was changed to a Jensen would it would closer to the deluxe reverb?
Albeit a great amplifier, the Fender HRD does indeed possess some design flaws. With that being said, I've replaced the cheap-ass AC filter caps as well as the resistors and diodes that supply channel switching signals - I elevated those last components ~ 0.5 inches off of the PCB as the original components cooked the board and some of the copper traces. After many a dirty word and a few hours of labor later, she works! However, a problem remains...
After coming out of standby and playing through it for approximately 5 - 10 minutes (enough time for things to get physically warm in the amplifier), my signal loses volume. If unplug the effects loop, the problem is resolved.
I believe I've isolated the problem to be in the Power-Amp In jack, whose solder connections in the PCB looked flawless. Is this nine terminal stereo jack bad? The jack itself has internal N.C. and N.O connections that open and close, respectively with plug insertion for signal routing.
My question: has anybody else encountered this same problem and what was the proper resolution? I'm tired of taking this damned amplifier apart only to discover there's more work to be done. Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you, kindly, for your time.
I got a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe IV as a warm pedal platform for home. I also recently got a Supro Delta King 12 for the sitting room, mostly casual off the cuff playing, where I donโt have to go down to my office. I got both of these about three weeks ago. The Supro is just perfect. The tone off the Supro is amazing, but there is no effects loop. For my purposes, it has plenty of headroom, but I like itโs drive tone.
The Hot Rod is so damned loud. It is so loud that I put a JHS Little Black Amp Box in the effects loop to tame it some, but that poses two problems. One, I canโt use the drive channel and the effects loop without pulling it out and dealing with the high volume. Two, the stock speaker on the Hot Rod doesnโt really come alive on the bottom end unless youโre pushing over about 85 dB.
I decided I should return the HRD and get the Supro Blues King 12, which is effectively identical to the Delta King 12, except it has an effects loop. (I suspect they pulled out the effects loop to keep from undercutting their Keeley Custom amps.)
Am I crazy to make this swap?
What are your opinions on the hot rod deluxe. Would this be a good amp to purchase and be an amp that I could use for a long time? Looking for an amp that I can grow with!
Any guesses what's wrong? Is it the tubes? Can I fix this myself? I've had it for 20 years and it has never been problem free. What should I do?
Excellent Condition, fully functional including the spring tank. Recent tube replacement done by a professional last November.
Comes with the foot switch and I can throw in the Attenuator for it as well.

Looking for a JC-40 but would add cash for a JC-120.
Also interested in a variety of other amps including Vox AC30, older Mesa amps, and JCM 800/900s so feel free to offer. Dm for pics/ video.
Iโm a trusted trader in the letstradepedals subreddit and have a 100% positive feedback on reverb and eBay.
5 months ago I bought a used Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 3 together with a metalzone. I felt satesfied with the tone at the time ( before that, I had been playing on a small practice amp), but today, I donโt know. I fell like I could have bought a really good marshall, blackstar or any other amp with high gain, but I bought a fender, facepalm.
Iโm thinking about selling it (I bought it for 600$ ) and buying a new one. Or should I? I guess I wonโt get a good metal sound with my single coiled stratocaster combined with a fender amp, but Iโm getting a Harley Benton ex-84 with EMGs for christmas. Is it my guitar that could make the hot rod deluxe melt metal or do I need a different amp? Or maybe the metalzone pedal is the problem. I am confusion.
I feel like I could have bought a really good amp made to play metal, but I didnโt.
Does anyone know what will happen if I use the second speaker output as my main speaker output for my amp? The main speaker output is all of a sudden not generating any sound...but the second output does...Colour me confused.
Cheers!
Hey everyone, I'm looking to upgrade from the stock speaker in my HRD III that I use to run my guitar channel in my stereo rig, and the amount of options are almost overwhelming. In my garage rock band, I run a stereo rig splitting my mini humbucker equipped St Vincent to two HRD deluxes via an ABY pedal, with one as a faux "bass" channel via an octave pedal, and the other HRD serving as my primary guitar sound (two piece band setups, intensify the obsessive tone chasing...). I'm looking to make the HRD i use for my primary guitar channel just cut through a bit more than the dark, almost flat tones of the stock speaker, will handle pedals well (I use a JHS Twin Twelve to emulate the Silvertone 1484 amp sound for the primary guitar channel), and won't muddy up my overall sound competing for low end with the octave down of the other HRD in my setup. Appreciate any recommendations!
TLDR: Looking for Hot Rod Deluxe speaker replacements for better sound clarity/can handle pedals well in a garage rock stereo rig!
So, I recently noticed a rattle coming from the cab, and spent some isolating it. I'm am 100% certain that it's the reverb tank. Playing a lower note on higher volumes is when the rattle is the worst. I tried holding the tank down since it, for the most part, sits freely. Has anyone else had a similar problem? How could I fix this?
I bought a HRD IV from Guitar Center (GC). One of their custom order runs in lacquered tweed w/black & gold face cloth. It was on their "broken or open" shelf and was apparently ordered online and sent back. "Transformer is faulty, makes noise, etc" 2 weeks later it's still there. Having previously had my hands in countless Leslies & Hammonds when I collected them, I bit the bullet and paid them the $400 ($800 combo amp). I get home pull the back off and fire it up since they didn't want me to at the store. One of the tubes looking like a Tesla globe and a horrific sound from the depths of hell emerged. Tube damaged somewhere between Fender to GC and to the customer losing the vacuum and letting air in. Put it on my Eico 667 and got the same Tesla globe look and popped the fuse on the Eico. LOL. They are stock GT 6L6-CHPs because they run at 30watts from the factory. Went to my local guy who only has JJ's, so I bought a pair of Apex matched JJ Electronics 6L6s. Expensive test, but amp is fine. LOL. I have Sovtek 6L6WXT+ Apex Matched on the way. TO THE POINT now. ;) I went to bias these JJs... and most I could get was 32mV. I tried two different multimeters and that's what both read. I also had an occasional pop in the sound. I'm curious if that aerated tube caused larger damage somewhere in a cap/resistor or these JJ's are too perfect (but only 25w dissipation) Any ideas?
I have been looking at getting a Blue Deluxe Reissue for a while now, just have been too busy working with COVID. My buddy just picked up a tweed HRD IV which sounds great; it's just a little more expensive. While looking for both of these, I saw a steal on a tweed Bassbreaker 30R for $500 and have been driving myself crazy deciding among the three. Anyone have experience of comparisons of these three? Mostly looking a playing blues with some classic rock, jazz, and country sprinkled in. Thanks in advance!

Purchased brand new on March 07th 2021 from Midwood Guitar in Charlotte, NC for $900. I am including with the original 6L6 tubes that come in it, a set of Yellow Jacket Tube Converters that have EL84 matched tubes installed, an extra new 12AT7 pre-amp tube I was intending to try as an upgrade, and a heavy-duty (can hold up to 200lbs) Gator Kick-Back Amp Stand and now also the JHS Little Black Amp Box that you can run in FX loop to further manage your volume about 250-300$ worth of stuff extra, all just as new as the amp.
