A list of puns related to "Fax modem"
I am looking for software that you could install to rx/tx faxes using Windows Fax and Scan. In the hopes I can avoid throwing an ATA+card into the mix, is there any software for me? Currently we have CUCM -> VGA -> USB modems -> Windows Fax Servers. I would really like to get away from the multiple layers of translation.
I personally plan on using mine as a means to make more sales without needing to use my phone with all its distractions, if Iβm out of the office and meet someone whoβs interested in buying I can put down the note and fax it over to my office so Iβve got it on my email folder the next business day.
Can I setup the machine to send and receive faxes? Iβm just curious if that capability is there to utilize the modem.
I recently acquired a CompuAdd325tx and I want to make it a project to connect it to the internet. It has a port labeled "fax modem" on the side. Can I use this to connect it to dial-up internet or is it only for fax machines? Sorry if it's a dumb question, I'm new to retro computing
Please its so annoying!
Hi All,
So i bought this thing - > https://www.newegg.ca/startech-usb56kemh2-dial-up-modem/p/1B4-0087-001H3?Description=fax%20usb&cm_re=fax_usb-_-1B4-0087-001H3-_-Product
In hopes of connecting it to my virtual machine (vmware) I have this hooked up to the Esxi host machine and enabled USB passthrough, rebooted my esxi host, but still no luck getting it to detect the device. Am I missing a step?
Hello All,
A client has asked me to look for a VoIP replacement for their old POTS lines.
The local telco will be phasing out ISDN and POTS lines this year and all that's on offering for replacement is low quality consumer grade crap.
They absolutely need analog as the lines are used for modem-like traffic.
My experience is solely with Cisco equipment and as far as I know data traffic has a max 14k4 rating in pass-true mode, which is not sufficient for their use.
Is it even possible to go past 14k4? Most VoIP providers don't go beyond G.711, which on the surface looks like it can do 64k, but it being a non-linear codec (a-law / u-law) optimized for speech, I suspect it's technically limited to 14k4.
Aside from the 14k4 issue, they need 9 FXS ports. A single device with that many (or more) ports would be ideal.

Hello,
Is anyone else running a HyperV VM for a 2012r2 domain for incoming faxes on that domain. Coming from a physical 2008r2 box this was very simple. How do you get a fax modem internal or external to communicate with the VM?
Also, without SBS, where do you have the faxes rolling into? On SBS, basic SharePoint services were included.
Thanks for your help.
First let me start by thanking /r/sysadmin. You guys have helped me figure out some crazy solutions to issues I have been having with customer builds. Like they say, it takes a village.
So my issue today deals with a USB fax modem that is used to send out letters and referrals to other doctor's offices. I used to use the EMR program locally on a Windows 7 x64 machine, without any hiccups at all. We then moved their entire office to using Remote Desktop Services, and use their programs and desktops on the remote server. Even though I have all my options to pass through ALL devices plugged in via USB, printers forwarded, etc it still does not see my UBS fax modem passed through. Every other USB device comes through, even on that one workstation that has the fax modem.
I have Fax Services installed on the server, and attempted to set up the fax modem as an available device for Windows Fax and Scan on the server but it does not see it as a viable modem. It doesn't even show up in the device manager, but I'm not sure it would with it being passed through via the RDS session. I'm willing to get a different USB fax modem for the local computer if there is one that is specifically compatible the way i'm using it, but I have read a ton online and on the TechNet articles and have not come across any situation of anyone attempting to use it this way. I can't be the only one...
TL;DR: USB Fax modem on local computer. Need it passed up to RDS to fax from RDS. Have Fax services installed. Does not pass through as intended.

Anyone know how to setup a usb dial-up fax modem?

I haven't used a modem in years and now I'd like to add outbound/inbound fax to an Ubuntu (or Debian) desktop. I had an old WinModem around but any docs that I find aren't accurate or imply installing non-free software which I'd rather not use. H-Node has none listed either.
Is anyone here using the U.S. Robotics USR5637 High-performance V.92 modem 56Kbps (listed as being compatible with Linux 2.4.20 kernel or higher) succesfuly or are there any other suggestions for such hardware?
Okay, I hate asking about this but I really can't find the answers I am looking for. These are purely used for sending/receiving faxes.
What are the real differences between these 2 options? I know a lot of internal fax-modems are just win modems, but other than that is there any real difference in reliability? It's definitely adding clutter to have several external modems and if I can consolidate them down to a multi line PCI card i'd love to!
Also, does anyone have any suggestions for internal fax modems that can run 4 lines?
Our company still has to put up with fax as I am sure a lot of you do as well. My problem is this fax modem or the software (pretty sure it is software) we have to use with it stops working about ever 1-2 weeks. The issue is solved by power cycling the modem but I will be honest with you I forget about it often. Do you guys know of anything that would allow me to power cycle the modem on a schedule.
I thought about a PDU but I'm not sure that is a feature of them or not and my budget is pretty tight.
My company was throwing away 6 new/unopened/unused US Robotics Sportster 33.6 Fax Modems with Personal Voice Mail (model 1172).
I first a grabbed a couple to use as gag gifts for friends. Then out of curiosity I checked how much they were selling for on Ebay. I was expecting a couple bucks, but I saw one instance of a user selling about 15 of similar models (white and a 8XX model number) at $33 a piece. WTF? Most of the US Robotics external 33.6 modems were around the $20-30 range on Ebay with actual sales (not just attempts at failed auctions).
So I grabbed all 6 of them and thinking about trying to sell them. But my main question is, who buys these still and why pay so much for them?
Thanks.
If so, how did you set it up?
