A list of puns related to "FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2009"
It was due to start yesterday but due to weather conditions it will now start tomorrow instead.
We got Ski events like the Super-G, Downhill, Alpine Combined, Giant Slalom and Slalom to look forward to.
At the same time the FIS Cross World Cup is taking place in Idre FjΓ€ll, Sweden. This is snowboard and ski racing as well as air tricks events.
I'm absolutely looking forward to the Super-G and the Snowboard cross.
Anyway for those are well versed in ski competitions, what is the difference between the regular FIS Alpine Ski world cup season which takes place every year and the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships which takes place every two years. Are they two separate competitions under the same FIS umbrella? Which is more prestigious? Does the scoring in the world ski championship affect the overall scores in the ski world cup season?
I am coming over from the USA. If anyone is going and wants an American friend to hang out with, I would be open to it. Should be a fun week!
1st round starts in 1hr. Your predictions? Mine are:
After 1st round:
And I have to say, that I am really disappointed by the judges. Very inconsistent once again.
Edit: End results:
As the trainings begin tomorrow 12:30CET, lets begin the discussion. Who are the favorites to you? I think Kobayashi, Stoch and Kubacki will kick back.
Today, some teams really want to turn things around. Poland expects a medal and it better be Gold or Silver. Germany looks incredibly strong, they are the team to beat today. Norway, Austria and Japan can all get a medal, if they have a good day. Edit:
Today it finally begins!

Who else will be glued to the TV?
Edit: First day is over. Thanks all who participated here! Tomorrow there will be no cross-country skiing, but Saturday gives us the Skiathlon events. See you then!

Today we have the 15km freestyle for men (individual start).
Interesting start numbers (starting times in CET)

Welcome back to /r/xcountryskiing! We are happy to report that our coverage of the World Championship in Falun 2015 has led to a steady growth of this subreddit, with over 100 new subscribers in the last days alone. We especially welcome those new to our community to join us in the exciting relay race of today!
A four-person relay race in cross-country skiing consists of the first two skiers using the classic technique while the two final ones using the freestyle, or skate technique. The relay races are among the most exciting to watch during the whole championship week, and the 2015 race will probably be as interesting as ever.
Today's race starts at 13:30 CET.
If you are in the US, there is a link in the sidebar where you can watch the race online.
New users, be sure to get your flair if you are cheering for a specific team (check the sidebar).
Update: Thanks, all who participated here today. I have been busy all afternoon because I defended my thesis but it seems like the threads here start to get a life of their own :D
Saturday will give us the classic 30km ladies and Sunday will be the classic 50km for men. Needless to say, these races will be very exciting to watch.
Edit: I made a typo in the title. The race is 50km and nothing else.
Hello everyone and welcome to the final competition day at the 2015 World Championship in Falun. As usual, the final day marks the day of the 50km mass start, a grueling long race that usually takes somewhere around two hours.
This race will be the final race of the reigning world champion, Swedish skier Johan Olsson. You might remember him from the 15km gold medal race as well as his impressive second leg in the men's 4x10km relay. After Falun, the 34-year old will retire.
The race starts at 1330 CET.

Update: Johaug utterly crushed everyone else and won a very well-deserved gold. Bjoergen broke free from the chase group and earned a silver while Kalla was able to overcome her tired legs and win the bronze.
Tomorrow we will see the longest race of them all when we have the 50km mass start. Starting time: 1330 CET.

There is only one event today, the 10km freestyle at 13:30 CET. Charlotte Kalla (Sweden) seems to be a favourite for today's race, and it is probably the one race of the whole championship that us Swedes have been looking forward to the most.
Edit: The race is now over. Congratulations to team USA for two very tasty medals! And we stand in awe of Charlotte Kalla, who defied the snowfall and took her first individual world championship gold. See you tomorrow for the men's 15km race.
