The debut episode of Torchwood, “Everything Changes”, marked a turning point in the modern era of Doctor Who. Not only was it the very spin-off launched off the back of the 2005 Doctor Who revival, Torchwood was described as the centrepiece of BBC Three’s 2006 autumn schedule.
Led by Captain Jack Harkness, a character who made his debut in the ninth episode of the first series of the revived Doctor Who, Torchwood became more than a passing mention and easter egg during Doctor Who’s second series in 2006. The name had first originated during the 2004 production of Doctor Who, with the anagram being used as the title ruse while filming its first initial episodes.
It’s only fitting that we begin our Torchwood rewatch this month as October 2020 marks the 14th anniversary of its inception.
Who is old enough to remember its original airing on BBC Three before the following series made the jump to BBC Two? Although I was only on the cusp of my teens at the time, I remember watching Torchwood and feeling ‘cool’ because it was considered an adult show.
The first rewatch - S01E01 Everything Changes - will take place on Saturday 24 October at 7pm UK time / 2pm EST / 1pm CST / 11AM PST

I'm rewatching this show for this who knows how many-th time, so now I figured I'd tried to squeeze some content out of it. Anyway....

Summary: Police Constable Gwen Cooper comes across the mysterious organization known as Torchwood. While investigating their world, she finds technology and methods she never imagined.
Ahh, the one that started it all. Not gonna lie, it didn’t exactly age the greatest, but I still have a bit of nostalgia about this episode.
The Good and the Wheeze:
- Team Torchwood’s first appearance being soaking wet in the Cardiff rain with their coats buttoned up to their necks is a bit simple but hey, you can’t always be Super Dramatic on the first try. A for effort.

- God, even in the Torchwood universe people are so in denial about aliens that they’d rather believe a Weevil is just a guy in a mask acting Like That
- Also it’s taken me years to finally notice this, BUT THE WEEVIL’S JUMPSUIT HAS TORCHWOOD SLAPPED ON IT
- Gotta love special effects from the mid-2000′s!
- The reference to Jack’s namesake O.O
- Gwen really thought she could slip into an underground base with a couple of pizzas and they’d just go along with it. I still wheeze at that scene to this day.
- Ianto Jones my sunshine boy!
- Also did I ever mention how much I love Tosh?
- Wow, Torchwood really said fuck the government from the get go.
- (Alright I’m sidetracking here, but when will Torchwood Four ever get mentioned in canon again?)
- I’m sorry, but I can never take Jack’s Dramatic Rooftop Brooding seriously.
- Gwen’s epiphany that aliens are real and how she finally snapped through the Retcon. We love a clever gal!
- God when Jack came up the lift, his expression deadpan, and neither Gwen or Suzie could see him? That moment invented comedy.
- And then Gwen ditching her old job as a cop to work with a bunch of disasters? Good for her.
The Oof, the Bad, and the Yikes:
- Pour one out for the porter. Death by Weevil sucks, but it sucks even more when you go out like a human Capri Sun packet.
- Hhh I really don’t think Owen pulling That with the alien pheromones would go over so well on cable TV today.
- Also it’s a damn good thing I wasn’t rewatching this on Twitch or the “jokes” during the bit where Gwen gets Retconned would be insufferable.
- AND SPEAKING OF RETCON WHY DIDN’T GWEN WRITE ANY OF HER NOTES DOWN BY HAND INSTEAD OF TYPING THEM

I personally think it would be a great idea, one final season, 13 episodes, to work out what happens with that cliffhanger at the end of Miracle Day, and give the show a proper sendoff. It never felt complete, and I always thought that was a shame.

Edit: I apologize for seaming childish or Just being a nuisance to this sub. I had no where else to let this go, I just had to say something even if it was in writing.
Edit #2: just got yelled at for new years. I've done literally nothing wrong, I get home and say hello to everyone and outta nowhere my dad starts yelling at me about why I'm spending money on myself. I made a purchase online in a game I like he goes off say how he needs us to work as a team, and that spending my money on "stupid" shit won't help pay the bills.
I stand there frozen, I'm shocked that, that is the way he sees things. For the past 5 years I've done nothing but sacrifice my future to help him with bills. I've done nothing but ask him to help him even more, yet it's never enough. He just kept yelling about how I need to help the family and basically forget about my needs....
And so I had enough, I hit my breaking point, I looked him dead in his eyes and asked him, " who was the one who stayed with u when u wanted to talk, who's was the one who took extra work days just so we could the car fixed, who was the one who stayed by ur side this whole time....WHO!...... Backstory I have been working from home since my daughter was born (she Is almost 3 now), my wife is a stay at home mom. My wife and I get along great and I love spending time with her and my daughter.
My job security became very worrisome so I began looking for other opportunities. I was given an extremely rare opportunity to work for the government and we as a family decided for me to take it. It would mean more time off, 35 hr weeks vs 40 + hr weeks, better benefits and help with my student loans along with career advancement.
The issue is this job will be hybrid and even potentially going full time to the office. I start next month. Also my daughter will be starting daycare for 3 half days in March to help with social engagement and allow my wife to work part time as well ( which Is something she wants to do)
I am very apprehensive about all of these changes, especially because they are all happening together.
My child is very smart and loving but I am really worried how she will do In daycare because she is a very challenging eater ( sitting still ) she is also very attached to us as parents.
Any advice would be very appreciated
