A list of puns related to "English Presbyterianism"
In the past there was quite a bit of prejudice against these groups who where Protestants but didn't belong to the Church of England. What did the Anglican majority think of these groups, what where the stereotypes surrounding them?
It seems that due to the fact the Church of Scotland was Presbyterian and that they shared a monarch and later a country with the Church of England, that English Presbyterians would have been offered some sort of special status. Why were they relegated to a second-class Citizenship status in England when the official religion of a good chunk of the country was Presbyterianism?
Also why was there never legal protection for them like there was for the Scottish Episcopalians?
Thank you.
Fight me.
A question for any British Historians here. The Uk dissent groups, who were Protestant but not part of the Church of England, must have had many negative stereotypes considering they were seen as a challenge to the establishment. So what were the stereotypes of these groups in the past.
Thanks
Hello friends, I am in need of your expert advice: I've been hunting for a nice smoke for these dreary winter months for a while now. So far, I've found myself gravitating towards English blends with some sort of mild flavoring (Mac Baren Plum Cake; Samuel Gawith Navy Flake; Samuel Gawith Bothy Flake) but have as of yet failed to find the blend to really "hit the spot" as it were. Do you have any recommendations bearing in mind that I am living in Europe and thus can't order most US tobaccos? Thanks in advance for your help!
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Hey everyone!
Been smoking pipes for about a year now. Usually smoke VA/ VaPer, and occasionally English blends (really like Presbyterian). For my usual smoke, I really dig Royal Yacht lately.
I was wondering what burley blends that you all like. I have tried Haunted Bookshop and liked it okay. For codger/ drugstore blends, I was told that Carter Hall is pretty good.
I appreciate any recommendations.
Cheers!
I have to add that that was supposed to be a comment but I can't find the post asking about the eater eggs now and I made it into a post because i thought it was interesting nonetheless and wanted to know more about,. Feel free to comment or correct me.
EASTER EGGS IN THE COVER OF :
"MAY DEATH NEVER STOP YOU"
1.The statue is probably depicting Gerard Way in the black parade era because it looks most like the the costume he wore and the facial features of the statue match his. Now it's not too likely that it is someone else because:
2.Ray Toro's uniform has a different design on the Torso Compared to the one on the statue.
3.Frank Iero's uniform has a different neck line.
There is no way that was Bob Briar because by 2013 he was arleady kicked of the band and no one in the band liked him Now the meaning of the statue can be either or neither of my theories but, the fact that it is almost 100 percent Gerard Way can be because he is the lead singer or he was the one whose idea starting the band was. Hence the uniform because originally the black parade was supposed to be the bands final album.
The graffiti on the memorial or "grave" can be a reference to the lyric : "This ain't about the friends you made But the graffiti they write on your grave" Bringing up the lyric could be a reference to the friendship between the members, but also their legacy and fan base of people who finally felt understood not just by the music but the band it self.
The graffiti:
A. The end: this graffiti is obviously about he end of the band itself( I can't quite connect it to the song so somebody can feel free to correct me).
B.We: it is not clear whether we is followed by "'ll carry on" the infamous lyric from "Welcome To The Black Parade" ,something completely different or nothing at all. It could possibly be about mcr keeping on as an idea or try and hype up the fandom reminding them the most important thing to do.
C: [that one is completely a theory] The design on the bottom side of the memorial could be reference to the drawing made for "The Only Hope For Me Is You" and the eye on the mailbox.
The drawing:
The specific drawing appears to be a memorial for the killjoys, also having candles lit up. Hence the candles in may death never stop you's cover.
Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual
So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes
r/unclejokes for dirty jokes
r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC
r/cleandadjokes If your really sick of seeing not dad jokes in r/dadjokes

How the hell am I suppose to know when itβs raining in Sweden?
I am curious about that topic, because I myself havenβt seen much of anti-Catholic sentiment among Methodists, ad I had previously seen with Baptist, Pentecostal, Restoration and Anabaptist denominations. Christopher Hill, himself a former Methodist, called the Presbyterians the most conservative in the midst of the non-conformists, during the XVII. On the other side, I have read in E. P. Thompsonβs βThe making of the English Working Classβ, that Methodism shared traits with Presbyterian, Baptist and Catholic confessions, that it was a sort of low church syncretism. I have not much knowledge of Wesley himself, I know he devised 4 principle statement that seems reasonable. Whitfield comes to me as an ecumenical Calvinist, but that is through the lenses of Ben Franklin.
Ants donβt even have the concept fathers, let alone a good dad joke. Keep r/ants out of my r/dadjokes.
But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.

I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
Now that I listen to albums, I hardly ever leave the house.
Don't you know a good pun is its own reword?
Two muffins are in an oven, one muffin looks at the other and says "is it just me, or is it hot in here?"
Then the other muffin says "AHH, TALKING MUFFIN!!!"
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!

Hi, the title say it all really. Would I be correct in assuming that Northern Protestants would have primarily British DNA, as opposed to Gaelic?

Today and next week, weβll be talking about the Three Witnesses to the Book of Mormon. Martin Harris bears the brunt of it, which will likely take this entire post, with less about David Whitmer and hardly anything about Oliver Cowdery. Apparently, Jeremy couldnβt find much else to attack Oliver for, beyond the divining rod we discussed last week. He goes on at length about Martin Harris, though, so Iβm just going to jump right in without a longer introduction.
> We are told that the witnesses never disavowed their testimonies, but we have not come to know these men or investigated what else they said about their experiences.
For once, heβs partially right. They never disavowed their testimonies. As a history geek, though, I have to disagree with the second statement. Jeremy may not know much about these men or investigated what else they said, but some of us certainly have. We have a wealth of information about them at our fingertips.
Among other resources, the Interpreter Foundation recently made a movie, Witnesses, that covers some of their experiences taken from their own words. They also created an entire website just about them. FAIR has a large section of their website devoted to them. So does Book of Mormon Central. Historian Richard L. Anderson wrote what is easily the best book about them. Theyβre discussed in the Church History Topics portion of the Churchβs website. Thereβs a lesson solely about them in the Book of Mormon Teacherβs Manual. And Michael Ash wrote a 4-part brochure on them, which you can read here: Part 1 | Part 2 | [
