A list of puns related to "Ender Wiggin"
(Possible spoiler for how naming works)
I recently started re-reading Ender's Game and got to the part where he says "in the moment when I truly understand my enemy, understand him well enough to defeat him, then in that very moment I also love him. I think it's impossible to really understand somebody, what they want, what they believe, and not love them the way they love themselves. And then, in that very moment when I love them... I destroy them."
This immediately reminded me of how naming works in the Kingkiller Chronicle. I love the intimacy that is described here when someone comes to fully understand a person or thing, and this is exactly how I always have imagined naming. You come to comprehend something so intimately that you see its true nature and gain power over it, for good or for evil. [WMF]>! I am specifically reminded of the scene where Kvothe is able to find/use Felurian's true name. !<
Also, sounds like Ender Wiggin would be a freaking amazing namer!
In Enders Game Peter is able to launch a political career through clever commentaries on his universes version of Reddit.
Anyone care to speculate on what sort of characteristics he would have needed to actually pull that off?
Ender Wiggin and Will Robinson are characters who've had a dose of main character syndrome. They both put themselves on the line to make sacrifices they believed (or in ender's case were made to believe) were the only way to ensure humanity's survival. Both characters were forced to grow into the shoes of "men" who carried the fate of humanity on their shoulders due to increasingly stressful circumstances, before physically reaching their prime. But the characters drastically different approaches to the problems they faced determined their actions taken and outlook on the choices they made.
HEAVY spoilers ahead for enders game.>>>
>!Ender was raised to be a soldier. The soldier. He was pushed harder than any of the other cadets in his batch. He was bullied mercilessly in school, so he violently assaulted the bullies and kicked them while they were down to prove to himself that they were no longer a threat. He was the last born, the Third, in a society where having more than two children is unacceptable. His own brother was a psychopath, who tortured small animals as a pastime. he had a fucked up childhood because his own brother bullied him to the point of nearly killing him. And then he got accepted into the space military program because Colonel graff saw the unstable genius forming within him. As the intensity of training increased, it was slowly revealed to him and the rest of the cadets that there was an impending alien invasion (again), and earth's youngest and most impressionable were training to be it's first line of defense. Long story short, ender is roped into believing he's the chosen one, put into an advanced battle commander position, and he commands his former fellow comrades against the interplanetary armada of an entire alien race to preserve humanity's future for generations to come. All while believing he was still fighting simulations in prep for facing the real thing. The trauma of finding out what he committed genocide without having known at the time psychologically broke him, and the fact that he had viewed his own troops as expendable, thinking it was just a simulation, sacrificing his fleet to massacre the alien homeworld made the weight he bore after just that much worse. However, it is revealed that ender was conditioned by colonel graff to become a remorseless killer from the time he joined the program, who shows no sympathy towards his enemies. He snapped after finding out that the simulation was the

The idea of a young kid manipulating global politics was always such an interesting concept, especially in a science-fiction setting. I was hoping to find other stories with a similar character and/or trope. I havenβt had any luck finding anything. Any recommendations?
Hey guys, has anyone here read Orson Scott Cardβs βSpeaker for the Deadβ trilogy? Iβm at the gym and have to get home, so I donβt have a lot of time to get into thisβ¦ but Iβm listening to the guys talk about the afterlife, and where we exist, and the βheart connectionβ that we have with other individuals, and the above mentioned books approach these questions in very interesting way.
Just wanted to get this out there while Iβm thinking about it.
/u/mrpennywhistle, /u/feefuh any chance you would consider these books for a future book club?
**EDIT** So, to expand on what I posted yesterday, now that I have a minute to type...
I don't want to give too much away, for those who haven't read these books and are interested, so I will tread somewhat lightly. "Speaker For the Dead" is the sequel to "Ender's Game", which has been discussed here. "Speaker" is really interesting in itself (and I think is a BETTER book than Ender's Game), but it's sequels -"Xenocyde" and "Children of the Mind"- are the books that are truly relevant to the current discussion. In these books, Card explores the question "what makes a person a person"? What are we at the core of our beings? The idea that he expresses in these books is really cool, and does a pretty good job giving these questions a hypothesis in a way that is satisfactory both to people of faith and people of non-faith. The trilogy as a whole deals with a myriad of questions that would be up both Dentin's and Matt's respective alleys, but as I said above, I could not stop thinking of Card's story while listening to a most fascinating conversation about the Afterlife.
Both players are trying their hardest to win, and they both understand the rules of the game.
R1: Both players know the rules but neither has played before.
R2: Both Ender and Caesar have 1 month to master the game of chess before the match.
Rules a contest of a one on one physical dual regardless of Primarch would be quite unfair for Ender, however, this is not a contest of physical power, but one of tactical prowess and intelligence.
Round 1
Ender Wiggin and a Primarch are given fleets, both of equal power, ability, discipline, and speed as well as the amount, and are engaged in open space combat to the death. which Primarchs could Ender defeat in these circumstances?
Round 2
Same as the first, but instead of space forces, they are ground forces, both with space marine legions of equal ability and training and firepower, the only difference being the commander, which Primarch's could Ender beat and which one's he'd lose too?
Bonus Round
Horus Lupercal has Ender as his fleet Admiral, could Ender change the events of the Siege of Terra?
Let's say he gets to study strategy and tactics for fifteen years. Also, he does not get Bean.
John and Ender swap places in each-other's stories. How does each one of them fare?
R1a) at the age of 6, John is selected by the I.F. to train in the prestigious battle school to train and eventually fight the Buggers. The commanders and teachers in the Battle School pressure and manipulate John the same way they did to Ender.
R1b) at the age of 6, Ender is chosen for the Spartan II program and taken to Reach to train to fight rebels and eventually the Covenant. Ender is subjected to all the same challenges that John was.
R2a) John is replaced by Bean in the Spartan II program. Bean is taken at the point right before he would have gone to battle school.
R2b) Ender is replaced by Captain Jacob Keyes in battle school. Starting at age 6.
Assume that Ender/Bean would survive the augmentation process.
Centipede Press has posted the cover pictures and titles for their next two Ender's Game books.
For anyone who hasn't been following along, in 2014 Centipede Press released a limited illustrated edition of Ender's Game, packaged along with an annotated edition of the original manuscript. Following on this success Card recommended they do the short stories next, and in 2015 they acquired the rights to both produce an Illustrated Speaker for the Dead and an anthology of all the short stories, including one previously unpublished story. This past July they said that both volumes would be heading to print soon and would be releasing sometime between Fall 2019 and Spring 2020.
Now both books are finally listed on Centipede Press's website with their cover art.
At the moment there is no additional information, but I'll try to update this post if I learn anything.
EDIT: In their newsletter, Centipede Press said that these titles are currently aimed at an August release date
>Speaker for the Dead and Enderβs Way by Orson Scott Card. > >These books are still in printing and in bindery. They go out for custom capped slipcased when they are done. August.
Just the way they both manage to gain the respect of people around them, even from at a young age. Obviously in terms of intelligence and overall leadership skills Ender is on a different level, but they give off a similar feeling. They've both managed to become two of the few characters I truly respect in fiction
(marked spoiler just in case)
The premise is that these four characters are all accepted as first year students, but none of them are capable of any magic. The goal is to be the last one discovered. They can use any sort of subterfuge or teamwork with other kids to avoid getting caught, and will know going into it that their goal is to last as long as possible pretending to be a regular student.
Who wins?
It's not a story a Speaker would tell you. Ender Wiggin was a great master of the Outside, so powerful and so wise he could use his mind to influence the philotic web to create new aiúas⦠He had such a knowledge of philotes, he could even keep the ones he cared about from staying dead.
Tom and Andrew are both shown to be skilled at whatever game they play. Could they beat this VRMMO power couple?
R1 - SAO equal levels and equipment but only an hour of play. And Andrew and Tom donβt know each other.
R2 - Same as R1 but theyβve been playing for a week.
R3 - R2 but they know each other
His plan literally boils down to shitposting about politics on the internet until mumbles and people make them president of Earth. Maybe we're moving into a brave new world where we'll finally give up and make u/Poem_For_Your_Sprog governor of Vermont or whatever, but still, isn't Peter's plan complete nonsense? Am I the crazy one? It's really my only problem with the book.
The last time I read Ender's Game was the summer before sophomore year of high school, at which point, none of my mood disorders had presented themselves. Now, rereading Ender's Game as someone in their late 20's that has suffered from bipolar disorder for the better part of a decade:
This line hit really close to home.
Have been thinking about this idea a lot of time as I am a fan of both serieses. I just finished Ender's Game, but I read all the AF books quite a while ago so not maby things are fresh in my memory. Would anyone like to help fact-check and invent some verses for AF? If you would, please PM me. Thank you very much!
Who is the better tactician and military commander between Ender Wiggin and Grand Admiral Thrawn?
Assume that both commanders are at peak for each battle.
Both sides will be given identical forces to command in each battle, with neither having a decisive advantage in geography.
Who wins the following battles? Winner is determined by whichever side retreats first. Tho objective in question is essential and runs out after 7 days... so the battle has to be over by then. Assume Ender and Thrawn both have a month to figure out each force they command.
Round 1: They are both in command of 1000 ancient Greek Hoplites. No support. Fight over a town.
Round 2: They are both in command of 1000 modern soldiers, 10 modern tanks, and 5 modern attack helicopters. Fight over a small city.
Round 3: They are both in command of a Star Destroyer with all accompanying support vehicles and crew. Fight over a moon.
Round 4: Fist fight at peak physicality.
Book Ender does what movie Ender did and flies off into the stars by himself with cocoon. The ship lands on Planetos six months before the first chapter/episode begins. What happens?
R1 - lands Near Winterfell
R2 - Lands near Highgarden
R3 - Lands near Casterly Rock
R4 - Lands in the path of Khul Drogos Khalasar
R5 - Lands near Mance Rayders camp.
Books or Show continuity. Whichever you prefer.
I was recently watching Assassination Classroom for the first time and noticed the similarities between these two satanic individuals and wondered howβd they pair up against each other.
Round 1a: Both of them in a straight on fight (bare handed)
Round 1b: Both of them in a straight on fight (each have a knife)
Round 2: Both of them lead a squadron of 15 trained soldiers and are assigned to take out the other. Every soldier has a knife. There are 1 sniper, 5 gun man, and 2 with riot shields. Assume all soldiers are equal skill. Who leads their squad to victory?
Round 3: Both of them lead a country on equal footing. Who can get there country the most powerful?
I posed this question on my Facebook page yesterday, and I was curious how it would look here.
All four Commanders would find themselves in an unknown galaxy. Their primary mission would be to explore and conquer this galaxy in the name of their respective factions.
Their fleets would consist of ships from their home universes, and would be of the following composition:
They would NOT be allowed to contact their home galaxy for reinforcements. And NO SUPERWEAPONS allowed!
So, which of these four would win, and why?
Who from history or fiction could replace Ender in the final battle?
Round 1: They are put through Battle School at the same pacing as Ender.
Bonus 1: They know it's not a game and about the Ansible.
Round 2: They are given all the training Ender's Jeesh recieved at Command and Tactical school. (Around 3 months to learn the tech available to them and their fleet.)
Bonus 2: They know its not a game and about the Ansible.
Round 3: They are dropped from their universe into Ender's place during the first battle of the war. They don't know whether it's a game or not. Let's also say that they understand they have to win for the sake of humanity.
Who could successfully beat the Formics, or most notably, the last battle of the war?
Edit: New bonus round
Bonus 4: If your character/person can't do it with what's given, then they get to bring their own Jeesh from their universe, being placed in the Enderverse at the same time as denoted by round.
What does the title mean? It looks like be combined of two clauses without a conjunction.
Following the defeat of the Buggers in Ender's Game, Humanity undergoes a near complete stagnation in culture, technology, and politics, rendering them completely incapable of adapting or improving regardless of impetus.
However, this is not imposed by a tyrannical government, or some outside force, but instead by personal choices within humanity's empire.
These choices, broadly described by image over substance, refusal to choose practical technological advancements, and worshiping an increasingly distant past, are close enough to the generic insult "hipster" that I'm going to use it as a broad descriptor.
Following Ender's Game, there is a break of 1000 years, where Ender and his sister travel at relativistic speeds throughout Humanity's empire, attempting to find a place to hatch an egg containing the last Queen of the Buggers.
Humanity is able to remain united through the use of magical soul strings that allow FTL communication. This is explicitly the only way that the Starways Congress can exert influence on their colonies, outside of sending a naval ship at light speed to that location, which takes years if not decades.
Culture - It is implied that this single method of FTL communication allows humanity to have a shared culture.
However, this is a little understated. Following the creation of the ansible, human culture stops evolving.
Humanity's language, International Fleet Common, is English with few differences, to the point that a character, 1000 years after its creation, gets the two confused.
Language drift is extremely common, and there can be a noticeable differences in speaking in less than a century. Presumably, recorded video and the internet prevented drift, but that seems unrealistic considering the emergence of words like yeet, and the unfortunate decline of Mid-Atlantic English as the broadcasting standard.
Yet, over the course of 1000 years, the difference from Old English to Modern English, there is almost no change.
That indicates something more than just a simple lack of change.
There is an active choice to imitate and continue the established standard.
But it goes further than just language stagnation.
Polynesian culture remains recognizably Polynesian.
Portuguese descendants are still universally religious and speak Portuguese. They also preach against other religions, despite having enforced freedom of religion for 1000 years.
Japanese culture is still fixated on nuclear bombs, and hav
Round 1: A game of Chess Round 2: A full on war with both parties having access facilities on par with the USA military. Round 3: Bloodlusted round 2.
Just at the outset of WW2, when Germany invades Poland, Ender Wiggin is given supreme command of all Axis forces. Soldiers, statesmen, and commoners obey him utterly and without question. Can he orchestrate a victory for the Axis?
Ender is at his tactical prime, circa the last battle in the second Bugger War
Ender has been fully trained in early to mid twentieth century tactics
Allied smear campaigns surrounding his age are the ineffective in harbouring discontent among his forces

Yes, I know, I misspelled Cleveland. Forgive me.
