A list of puns related to "Emirati Dialect"
ุงูุณูุงู ุนูููู ูุฑุญู ุฉ ุงููู ูุจุฑูุงุชู I will be visiting Dubai in a couple of days for a business trip and I have a question. Does the dialect used in Dubai differ a lot from Modern Standard Arabic? I speak Fusha but I don't speak the Gulf Dialect. Will I be easily understood there? Thank you for your answers
Iโm learning some Arabic because I have some local friends, and there is sometimes a language barrier between us.
What does โุจุฑุงููโ mean? Itโs not a pencil sharpener
For people knowledgeable in this matter, since it says on Wiki that Khaliji Arabic is more of a dialect continuum rather than a homogenous dialect, I wanted to know what dialect Gulf Arabic textbooks are based on?
Ahlan,
does anyone of you guys have a good recommendation for an Arabic language school specialized in the Khaleeji/Emirati dialect? I'm coming to the UAE for two weeks in April, so I'm not interested in a long term program, rather in a private class or a small group. I already speak MSA and the Levantine dialect, so I am not beginning exactly from scratch..
Or do you guys have an idea where I could have the chance to encounter the local dialect? I guess in Dubai itself not so much, but how about places like Al-Ain and Ajman?
I'm a college student who is very fluent in English and Hindi. I also know German at an Intermediate Level.
I've always been interested in learning arabic and now it's become a necessity as i recently shifted to an arabic speaking country and would love to understand/talk with the locals.
Two Abu Dhabi Arabic instructors from NYUAD (New York University Abu Dhabi) Nasser Isleem (Author) and Ayesha Al-Hashemi (Co-author) have written a textbook to help the students at the university to master the Emirati Dialect. In the campus itself, it has a 3-week intense course and as assistance, they have written this textbook of 325 pages. The book is titled "Ramsah" (which means talk in Arabic)โStudents are asked to sign a contract to the effect that they will not utter a word other than Arabic during the three-week course period. They have to talk, breathe and walk Arabic so that at the end of the course they start speaking the dialect like a local,โ Main Author Nasser Isleem said. The textbook can be used by anyone, of any age, whether they have a job or they are in school, it is the perfect book to learn Emirati Dialect independently and make your way around the UAE.'Ramsah' contains 6 lessons, each lesson containing approximately 54 pages, rich with common verbs, conversations, exercises and activites, and vocabulary.
Following are pictures of the book:

And he responded in Arabic! Previously my Arabic was so bad they would usually just ask me to switch to English, so no cringe this time!!
Granted I only asked directions, but it's my small victory for the day :D
I'm from Bahrain but due to family complications I moved to London with my mother as an infant, leaving my Bahraini father in Manama. I don't know my dad very well but long story short, I've decided to reconnect with him now that I'm an adult, we've arranged for myself to live in Bahrain following this coming January. Could anyone point me in a decent direction as to how I can learn the gulf dialect from scratch? I have experience with European language learning but Arabic is completely alien to me.
If anyone could help out I'd be extremely grateful. It's really daunting knowing the experience ahead of me, and I'd love to soften this by getting as much of a head start as possible before continuing my Gulf Arabic studies in Manama.
Kind regards and many thanks for any responses ๐๐ผ
For someone who has just moved to the UAE, which is the best type of Arabic (dialect) to learn ? This person is a woman. A COMPLETE beginner and would like to be easily understood by most but also speak a beautiful dialect.
Hello guys, I am a medical doctor working in the UAE. I can read & write Arabic but I have difficulty in speaking part. Please suggest me any resources. Thank you
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies ๐
It really does, I swear!
I'm trying to pick up some Arabic from songs. But then I wondered "How can I know which dialect of Arabic is spoken in the song?" If they're from Egypt I assume they speak Masri dialect but for Hussein Al-Jasmi (Emirati singer) I noticed that he pronounced some words in a Masri way (as far as I know). For example he would pronounce "my heart, qalby" as "'alby" with a glottal stop and the letter ุฌ as /g/ like in Masri. Sorry if I am talking out of my mind. I am very unfamiliar with the Arab world
Because she wanted to see the task manager.
Heard they've been doing some shady business.
but then I remembered it was ground this morning.
Edit: Thank you guys for the awards, they're much nicer than the cardboard sleeve I've been using and reassures me that my jokes aren't stale
Edit 2: I have already been made aware that Men In Black 3 has told a version of this joke before. If the joke is not new to you, please enjoy any of the single origin puns in the comments
BamBOO!
Theyโre on standbi
They were cooked in Greece.
A play on words.
Pilot on me!!
Christopher Walken
Nothing, he was gladiator.
Or would that be too forward thinking?
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
What did 0 say to 8 ?
" Nice Belt "
So What did 3 say to 8 ?
" Hey, you two stop making out "
When I got home, they were still there.
I won't be doing that today!
Same as title
Any help would be appreciated.
