A list of puns related to "Ema (Shinto)"
I'm writing an essay for uni on depictions of shinto in popular culture and wanted to do it on shinto in horror. I'm looking for any recommendations of any type of horror (movies, anime, games, etc..) that have an element of shinto. It can be a large part of the story or just something like the characters go to a shrine at some point.
so if anyone knows of a horror game, movie, etc with an aspect shinto in it let me know, any help is greatly appreciated.
Yes i have essentially 0 knowledge on the actual religion
When doing research, I've seen a lot about the clothes which Shinto priests wear during different ceremonies and important events, but not whether or not there is anything they are expected to wear outside of those times.
A lot of Christian churches expect their holy men and women to nearly always wear some level of holy vestments (even if it's just the white collar), and I'm wondering if it's similar with Shinto priests. Are they expected to present a certain way during everyday life? Would it be common or uncommon to see a Shinto priest wearing street clothes at a convenience store?

I'm planning to be converted into Shinto but I need to learn some basic prayers and rituals before I convert myself into one. I'm just asking this question because I tried searching on Google but I'm not sure if Google said the right one. After learning some basic rituals, I'll convert myself into Shinto but do I need to consult a Shinto priest in able to do it? (Sorry if I have a bad English)
The title. I apologise in advance if I come across as ignorant.
Hello everyone! Iβve made a video about the geographical placements of the worlds of these games, and aspects from Shintoism within the Soulsborne games. I focus mainly on the concepts of Kang and Utaki. When it comes to DS 3 I relate this to the Smouldering Lake (since it quite literally appears to be a hell). I was wondering what you all think of this? With kind regards, Jacco

I've discovered lots of Buddhist themes in MHA specifically surrounding AFO and the symbol of evil and I was wondering if anyone has found anything more to solidify this.
Firstly you've got the most obvious one, Chisaki and the Eight bullets, correlating The Buddhaand the Eight precepts (Eight rules to help achieve enlightenenment)
So the Eight bullets are all twists on these Eight rules embracing the very opposite of what these rules suggest with their quirks and actions.
Perhaps Hori is portraying that enlightenenment jn the world of MHA is in bieng this symbol of evil. Through embracing your negative traits.
Now some things that link to this is Overhaul bieng portrayed similarly to All For One in times e.g The way he reached out the eight precepts in their flashbacks resembles how AFO reached out to Shigaraki for example.
I'm thinking that AFO, and this position of symbol of evil is supposed to correlate to the Buddha and enlightenment in MHA. This idea seems solid with AFO's seeming detachment from human emotion, and Shigaraki in order to be achieve this having to 'liberate himself.' It gives very Buddhist undertones of enlightenenment.
AFO's current look of having no hair and inactive eyes also resembles common depictions of the Buddha's with that symbolising the Buddha's detachment.
Also the name Ujiko, the scientist, refers to guardians and disciples (something of this sort) to Ujigami, which spirits which Guard particular places. This is Shintoism however but I would make sense together as Japan's culture of a mixture of Shintoism and Buddhism.
I feel like Horikoshi is trying to make a complete Shinto-Buddhist theme here, has anyone else got any ideas or anything backing this? (Manga or Anime).

Iβve been reading about Christianity in Japan. The history of it as well as modern times.
They briefly explained that the hidden Christians had to adopt different religious practices, because at the time they were jailed or killed. I know they had to mix parts of Catholicism and Shinto. To hide their beliefs.
I learned that they venerate and pray to Virgin Mary, because Crosses werenβt allowed.
What are some other practices that combine different elements from both Shinto and Catholicism or any other religions/beliefs. If any of you know more info, I would love to hear. Thanks for any help!
What are the specific conditions to get Catholic rebels via shintoism? Do you have to be a Japanese nation or can any nation outside Japan with shintoism get the event?
So, I realize this is a very narrow subject, but Iβve been really interested in Shinto, and I was hoping the good folds on this subreddit could recommend some books on the topic.
ooh boy, this is gonna be controversial to be sure, but interested in seeing what world you come up with free of these absolute religious monoliths steamrolling literally every other religion out of existence
To specify, what I mean is that Shinto traditionally is a very diverse belief system, but State Shinto was a uniform belief system that was the same everywhere in Japan, unless I am misunderstanding it.
For it to be uniform the state must have clarified what it considers to be Shinto traditions, beliefs and practices that everyone must follow, and which aren't (any longer). So what did that look like and how did it differ from normal Shinto beliefs?

Is there any historical source who attests that non-Japanese people, and people who didn't have any Japanese ancestor, ever practiced Shinto prior to modern times (I mean, before the sixteenth century CE), specially at home shrines?
Hello. I'm making an infographic about biodiversity for work and part of it is going to explain why biodiversity is important and part of that is that all major religions have elements of nature in them, so I'm thinking of having a part of the infographic where there's different religious symbols with some sort of image that has to do with nature next to it. For example, for Judaism I'm thinking of showing the Magen David with a lulav, etrog, or tree and for Hinduism I'm thinking of showing an om with either a snake or an elephant. What are some elements of nature in Shinto that I can easily depict?

I'm planning to convert myself into Shinto but I live in the Philippines in where no Shinto shrines or temples exists. Do you need a Shinto priest in able to convert yourself or you just need to let go your current belief and start practicing Shinto rituals. (Sorry if my English is bad)
