A list of puns related to "El Chayote Protected Zone"
Maldita sea. Gracias humanos.
Have you read “Golden Gate Gardening?” Because after I flipped through it, I became determined to grow chayote, even though I had no personal familiarity with the squash.
And now my dumbness has come to fruition. Or a lack thereof, rather.
As instructed, I bought four squash in January. After a few weeks, two had sprouted long stems with a few itty-bitty baby leaves. (The other two had just a little bit of development, so I set them aside.)
Continuing to follow the advice I’d read, I planted the two sprouting squash in March. The plots were both against the east side of a fence in quite crummy earth, which I’d broken up and turned over decently well. I watched a couple of videos about planting and tried to copy the technique of planting most of the squash 6” under the soil line with the stem pointed up at a 45-deg angle.
Things just never seemed to take off after that. I’m not sure if the mercurial weather played a part or if it was purely my lack of knowledge, but at this point,I haven’t seen any signs of life in weeks. The stems have lost their vibrant color and no leaves have developed.
I do still have the two leftover chayotes, which have sprouted slightly more, although they both have leaf clusters closer to the base of the squash with no stems. They are also both quite wrinkly and a little bit brown.
Can I still start a chayote plant this year? Would it be worth the hassle of acquiring one from a grocery or is there an easier way to accomplish my goal? What can I do better next time? I read lots of texts saying chayote is simple but obviously I messed up somehow, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance! 🥂
Noob question, I know. I haven't played in quite some time. Reason I ask, a friend and I played DayZ while working remotely last year (sorry boss) which required us to semi-regularly hold up in sheds for 5-10 minutes to get work down. Just wondering if being indoors alone protects you from the toxic zone, I couldn't find a straight answer one way or the other online.
Thanks!
I can't find this info anywhere, but does the strafe run not do damage to players at their spawn? Does it have to be placed away or can it be placed anywhere?
What minimum soil temperature / outdoor temperature have you gotten your cold weather crops (i.e. kale, lettuce, cabbage, mustards) to germinate? I’m in zone 6 and don’t have space inside to start seedlings but I do have a covered plastic 6mil hoophouse. Any insight about starting cold weather crops that are protected outside would help.
