A list of puns related to "Ederlezi (song)"
Hello, this is my first time posting here. Just for context, I'm Croatian.
What recently piqued my interest is that certain people have a distaste for this Bijelo Dugme song, and some even sing it especially to spite other ex-yu nations. I tried googling the reason, but the only source I found is an article saying how the song originates from the train ride that lead to the Jasenovac genocide (which occured during the Đurđevo holiday), lead by NDH, where a Serbian man started making it up on the spot to spite NDH officers. This just confused me even more because I'm pretty sure that the song is originally a Roma folk song that celebrates the arrival of spring.
(A clarification just for clarification's sake, I'm not questioning the legitimacy of the Jasenovac genocide itself, just this story about the song's origins)
Does the song really leave a bad taste in some of your mouths, or is this just another ploy to separate our nations even more?
Edit 1: Thank you all for your responses! I'm busy atm, but I'll start getting back to you soon, as I have additional questions.
Edit 2: changed "Jasenovac massacre" to "Jasenovac genocide", as pointed out by u/umbronox. My intention wasn't to delegitimize the genocide, I just made a stupid mistake
Edit 3: after reading all your responses, I've gathered all of the info in one comment. Aditionally, I voiced my scepticism, as well as provided proof for why I'm still sceptic. I'm not saying anything is the definitive trurh, just that the history is muddy and bloody, and there's bound to be people exploiting it to spread hate.
Directed by Emir Kusturica Music by Goran Bregovic
I watched this movie as a kid in the theatre, and I remember frissoning, even though I had no idea what's it all about.
