I remember watching the movie in theaters and making a comment that her voice sounded like someone else's. I might have thought it was Susan Egan, but if anyone can find a sample of another woman whose speaking and singing voice is similar, I would be eternally grateful.

It's very hard for me to write about the AIDS epidemic of the early 80s. There is a lot of injustice, sadness and blatant homophobia involved in it, which makes it all in all pretty hard to write about. However, despite all that, I think it's important. Today, in honour of world AIDS day, I would like to talk about 6 artists who passed away suffering from AIDS. Most of them were gay or bi, others weren't. Common between all of them is that they suffered from a lack of information and policy, causing an increase in infection rate and delaying production of a medicine. A disgusting example of this: in 1982 when over 800 people died from AIDS in the US alone, the press secretary to Ronald Reagan laughed at a question about AIDS.
It makes me mad to think about what each of these artists could've accomplished had they been alive. It makes me mad to think about how many deaths of both celebrities and non-celebrities could have been prevented. It makes me mad to see too many of these artists barely discussed. So that's why I wanted to write this, so there will hopefully be more discussion surrounding these artists and their music. I want to write mostly about each artist's music, because there's much more to them than just somebody who passed from AIDS, but for each of them I've included how they responded to the disease, how and when they died, because as sad as it is, that's also a part of their story. I realize that this is heavier than most of the stuff posted or commented on the sub, but I think it's important to discuss this type of stuff too, especially considering the large number of lgbt+ people on this sub. With all that out of the way, let's take a closer look at these ten artists, shall we?
Patrick Cowley
While in the early 80s the disco scene might've lost its mainstream popularity, for gay men the scene was as alive as ever. One of the artists who made extremely high-quality disco, was Patrick Cowley. My bf said something like “damn look at her nose.” And started laughing. He used to make comments like these when driving past people on the street and whatnot and I told him that it bothered me because it’s rude to judge someone on their appearance. Also makes me think that everyone that I pass by is doing the same thing to me; and I grew up with a really critical mother so it bothered me. He said he’d stop and he apologized, which he did for the most part. Today though he did it again. When Donna Murphy first came on the screen I thought she was beautiful, but his comment made me feel badly. He called it really crooked as well, but Alfred Molina’s nose (Doc Ock) is actually way more so, I just found it weird. Nonetheless it just made me reconsider how he finds me attractive. I’m Italian, I have a regular sized nose from the side view, with a small bump in the middle thats hard to notice because it’s straight. But from the front view my nose is bigger, it’s one of my biggest insecurities. When we first started dating about 9 months ago we played a game of “passing the phone to…” with my friends. Like you record yourself roasting someone and pass the phone to them for the next turn. Nobody was going after appearances though. I guess my boyfriend didn’t know what to say because he said “passing the phone to someone with a big nose.” and I immediately felt terrible. I have a fucked sense of humor so it made me laugh but I was balling my eyes out lol. He held me and said he was sorry a million times, that he didn’t know it was an insecurity and whatnot. I made fun of him but said it was okay. Well today that comment about the actress made me rethink things. I don’t know how he finds me attractive if he finds a woman with a similar nose unattractive. (Hers is a little more bulbous and maybe slightly crooked but definitely similar.) And I know that emotions have a lot to do with it but I don’t want him to find me attractive based on the fact that he loves me. I guess what I’m looking for is perspective.
TLDR: My bf said an actress with a similar nose as mine had a big and crooked nose. He’s called mine big in the past as a joke. I don’t know how he finds me attractive if he can have strong opinions on others with similar features.
