This just happened this morning and I'm still a little rattled by it. I'm not sure what to do.
I was in the bathtub of all places. I had the music going but I still was able to hear the dogs barking and a blood curdling child scream. The scream came from inside. I don't have any kids.
I hop out and wrapped a towel around me and run downstairs where I see a kid about 5-6 years on the floor of my living room with my dog biting the shit out of her and pulling at her pant leg. I called the dog off right away (It's a Dachshund) and went to the kid. She was bitten around the ankles, leg and butt. Blood was drawn from the visible wounds.
Through the kids snot-filled whimpers I was able to get her to tell me where she lived. I have never seen this kid before. I throw on some clothes, pick the kid up and carry her a block away to where she said she lived.
The mom answered the door- I explain I found her kid in my house and my dog bit her. The mom is rightfully freaking out and she puts her in the car to take her to the hospital. That's all that happened with the encounter. "Oh my God!" and straight to the car. She never said anything to me. I have never met the mom before either. I think they may have just moved in.
Now, I don't know what to do. I have not heard from the family nor the police as of yet. I have gathered the dogs shot records which she is up-to-date on as I'm thinking someone would ask for those.
Am I responsible for her injuries as she just wandered into my house? I rent and I do have renters insurance. Is this something to have them deal with? If so, do I wait until the family comes knocking or start the process now? Do I report it to the police or leave it up to them?
Edit: Sorry. State is MN in the city of St. Paul. I called my insurance company. Confirmed coverage of up to 100K that would pay out for a dog bite. I also walked back to their house but noone was home. It's been 5 hours with no word.
Another question: Would using the renters insurance make my rate go up or could it make me un-insurable in the future?

It was just a minor puncture wound, i cleaned the wound with soap after the bite and as the wound was very minor i just took tt shot. Yesterday the pup died. Google says that vax should be taken within 48hrs or it won't be effective. So all I can do now is hope that I don't die?
Edit: took the vax y'all π€
I guess thatβs what I get for buying a pure bread dog.
My wife and I were at a tile store the other day and brought our dog since the store was dog friendly. We passed by this lady with her pitbull mix and the pit seemed friendly enough and as we passed the lady said, βItβs OK, they can say hi!β so we turn around and let the dogs get introduced.
With no warning signs, her dog bites ours in the face and our dog is yelping to get away. We pull them apart and donβt immediately notice any bite marks and our dog seems OK so we thought maybe the bite was just surface level.
That same night our dog wakes us up because he keeps making a licking noise and it turns out he was licking the wound inside his mouth. The next morning we take him to the ER and wait 3 hours to get antibiotics which he is currently on and we are out $250.
Iβm just pissed which is why Iβm writing this. How can you not know your dog is capable of doing something like this and tell us to let our dogs say hi? Itβs made me never wanna have my dog say hi to random dogs ever again no matter what their owner says. Completely irresponsible and I wish we grabbed her info. Iβm just happy our dog didnβt get mutilated, it could have been much worse. Be careful out there!
That's me!
Could you please tell me if your dog had a rabies vaccine?
Your greyish, patterned pit bull kind of dog bit the shit out of my hand on Guad and 21st and all you said was "I'm so sorry!" and then pulled your dog away without giving me any information!
I realize that I was yelling; I'm sorry. I was very upset because your dog had just ripped a hole in my hand, and my blood was literally dripping on the street. My bad.
I went to the doctor (no need for stitches, lucky me!) but since you walked away without giving me any information, I had to get a rabies treatment! Do you know what that looks like?
For someone of my weight, that meant I need five (5!!!!) injections of rabies immunoglobin around the bite in the palm of my hand, plus another 4 injections, one in each thigh and one in each hip, to bring me to a grand total of nine (9!!!!) shots. The doctor told me that despite how thick immunoglobulin is, and how much discomfort it can cause, I took it like a champ. so yeah!
I also needed a tetanus vaccine, a rabies vaccine (in addition to the 9 doses of immunoglobin), and I need to take time off of work on Thursday, next Monday, and the Monday after that to finish the rest of the rabies vaccine! The doctor assured me the chances of the dog having rabies were low... but that it might not be best to trust a dog owner who let their dog bite someone and then walk away!
I don't want to press charges for the assault. I just want to know if I've been exposed to a lethal virus.
If you're friends with someone with a greyish pitbull/ bull terrier that told a story about how rude the man was for yelling after he was bitten, maybe ask them if the dog's been vaxxed and let me know? I don't want to meet this person or doxx them or have anything to do with them.
I JUST WANT PEOPLE TO CONTROL THEIR FUCKING DOGS
*Edit: The full story for those of you who seem to think I baited the dog into biting me:
I was walking on the sidewalk on 21st toward Guad. Owner was walking in opposite direction. I looked at her dog. Looked at owner. Dog bit my fucking hand.
I am a fast walker, and move my arms, maybe the dog interpreted this as a threat?
Hi Doughboys Reddit!
I wanted to post this here in case people missed it on twitter:
Do you know of another story that needs a Doughvestigation?
A quirky local restaurant owner that mysteriously skipped town? A beloved family recipe that was lost to time? A girl scout cookie sales war that got especially ugly?
Weβre open to investigating and telling all kinds of stories, but the one condition is they must involve food in some way.
E-mail manbitesdogtips@gmail.com if you know of something that you think could work.
He snapped my sons face. , no puncture wounds. I know it's not his fault. I know it was not aggression. He was sleeping and my son hugged him. He just got startle I think, or hurt maybe by accident and he snapped. It bled a bit, mostly scratches. My son knew he's not supposed to hug dogs. Now he knows why. After it happened and situation was over, I went to see my dog and , you can tell he knows something wrong. Curled up in a ball looking up at me. I pat him all over , does not seems to be in pain. This happened last night, everyone is ok today. Physically
He's a Shepard. What if it happens again? And bites for real this time. My heart is shattered, so is my son. My ex will call CPS I know it. He's not a pleasant person when he is in a good mood. Imagine now. The threats are non stop. Euthanize he said. Naturally that's not gonna happen. My stepdads brother has over 100acres. He's an older single man, who loves to tinker on his land. He might take him.
But i must be crazy because I don't want to rehome him. He was there when we had no one. He protected my home from bears and coyotes. Secured me as a single mom, that no one will fuck with me, or break in. He always sticks by my sons side when we're out for a walk or bike. He's the best dog. My heart won't listen to reason.
Sorry if this is all over the place, I'm very emotional right now.
Please be kind, this subject brings out the worst in ppl.

Wow you guys, you really helped me feel better and thus, clear my head. I'm relieved to know that I'm not that crazy lol everything happened as I described it, and my gut feeling that this is not an aggression issue, rather a lesson, was spot on.
I've talked to a friend who's dog actually bit a her kids friend leg, they were running around in circles around the dog, cant really blame the dog....
Now she makes sure the kids don't bother the dog and got her son involved more in training and it never happened again( that was like 5 yrs ago)
It gives me hope :)
I've talked to my vet, who mirrored what you guys said. Appointment is set up for neutering next month. And I'm waiting on a call back from my local animal control office.
I had a long talk with my son, who will now be more involved in training and feedings. I need to see action on his part, to make sure he learned his lesson. There's no other option. He will have to stand up to his dad's, who will have him this week end and will talk to him about rehoming the dog.

Title says it all.
I was at a dog park with my dog. The mother was not paying attention the whole time. Her daughter kept chasing my dog, a little dachshund beagle mix and trying to get in my dogs face. I told her repeatedly to leave my dog alone.
My little dog finally snapped at the girl, and her mother came at me in full bear mode. I told her my dog isnβt the problem, but rather her daughter has a mom with the problem and to either keep an eye on her daughter or leash her up.
She got beat red and left the park.
Am I the asshole?
My wife and I have a dog that is very good with us but has randomly bit someone who is visiting us and is also not good with kids. Does anyone know a dog trainer in the area who is equipped to help us figure out what to do? It is hard to sort through the ads that come with searching online and was hoping someone had first hand experience.
My dog bites when scared. Heβs even broken skin. Iβm considering a board and train but itβs $2,700 dollars for three weeks and like 4 home sessions (but the trainer said willing to work once problem is resolved). Iβve posted on r/reactivedog but havenβt received help. Everything is very βpositive reinforcement.β
This trainer does balanced training. She aims for positive but if needed will use aversive tools. I need help Iβm not sure what to do. My other option is working with another trainer who solely does positive reinforcement but she wonβt do home visits.
Has anyone had success with board and train? Ive seen the facility and weβve been speaking a lot.
Thank you!
I was at a park (NOT A DOG PARK, a regular park where legally dogs need to be on a leash)with my cat, who was on a leash.
We were minding our own business, my cat was chilling and having fun when an off leash dog attacked us and tried to kill my cat.
While I was trying to get the dog away from us, my cat jumped on me for safety. I suffered deep lacerations close to my eye and scratches to my chest (caused by my cat). I almost went blind.
The owner of the dog was physically unable to walk let alone run after her dog. She was unable to control her dog who appeared unphased by her commands. (βHereβs a treatβ)
After putting the dogs leash on she threw me a quick sorry but not before making a comment about having my cat at a park.
There was blood everywhere. I didnβt know the extent of my injuries I thought she would wait or call an ambulance. I tried to get her information to obviously file a report but she ran away.
I called my family to come help me. We ended up following the woman and pleaded for her to give her information but she wouldnβt.
She was just walking around the neighbourhood so I wouldnβt be able to find her address.
I called the police they wouldnβt do anything.
Then she called the police as claimed her life is in danger because we kept asking her for information.
The police respond to her call. They come and see how bad my face is, they document everything and charge her. And they gave me her information. I reported her to the city who issued her a notice.
Since then I had to go to the hospital, I had to get a shot, I had to take my cat to the vet, I had to pay for medication. Worse of all my face has two scars relight below my eye. You could still see the hole in my face didnβt close properly no matter what I did.
Every time I look at the scars it makes me upset. My cat is terrified of going outside. The whole thing was unfair. I donβt understand why some dog owners feel like cat owners are not allowed to go outside to a public park with their pet, and that a public park is their personal space. Prior to this incident my cat who is trained, loved going outside.
My family and friends tell me to just drop everything and forget about it. But I feel it is unfair that my cat and I had to suffer because of this woman who is clearly unfit to be a dog owner and she is prejudice towards cats and cat owners.
So Iβm asking for advice as professional as possible.
Do you think I should try to sue her or take her to small clai
... keep reading on reddit β‘Delivered out of Lebanon in TN, sent me to bumfuck. I always scan for dogs before getting out of my car but these jerks came running out from behind the house, not even barking, when I was halfway up the drive. Large chi, the little jerk, got me twice. Lab really wanted to get me but didnβt. I backed up to my car and called the customer. He claimed they werenβt his but they listened when he yelled at them. Then he went back in the house and I had to drive 2 miles an hour blaring my horn bc the dogs were attacking my car the whole way to the main road. Didnβt deliver his neighbors package bc there was no way I was driving back up that lane. π€£
Edit: the dog did not break the skin. I have no interest in killing him. It was reported to flex support and they have the addresses (I had two drops at houses there).
