A list of puns related to "Dirk Gently"
I've just finished this series, and I really loved it's absurdity. I've also watched Happy! And I'm looking for something similar to these
Thank you!
I've recently been looking into the reception of the show, and most critics' reviews were lukewarm at best. However, when I look at the fan community, I see that we love the show with all our heart; I've even read some comments from people saying that the series changed their lives. So there's a weird dichotomy here, and I'm trying to understand it. What did the critics miss? What is it about Dirk Gently that truly speaks to you?
Silly question, but I just don't know where to look this up. Did Dirk Gently air on TV?
I know Adam doesn't usually review TV shows but there are two shows I wish he'd cover. Personally, I love them but I can't tell if I'm biased in thinking they're good or if they actually are. I really hope more people check out these shows because, even if they're not as good as I think they are, I just want them to be known about a bit better.
This show is a lot of fun. I don't want to try and talk about the plot but both seasons begin seeming maddening and disconnected but things gradually fall into place with everything making sense at the end. The show is live action but almost cartoonish in the absurdity of the events and some of it's characters. The show is hilarious at many points but also manages grim and depressing tones. The cinematography and production design are inoffensive, with the score often working well when odd music choices are used, and mediocre at other points. The editing is done well occasionally, being used for comedic effect, but the performances and the writing are what make this show special. Definitely check out the first episode if you have Netflix and, hopefully, you'll want to keep watching. For fans of the Douglas Adams books, it does not focus on those stories, and features a younger and very different Dirk with a different history. They share the same bizarre investigative strategies and optimism, but instead of being grumpy and a bit of a con artist, this show's Dirk is jubilant and enthusiastic. I should also note one thing about this show which is a dark ugly stain that prevented a season 3 and does spoil it a little: the creator and primary writer. Max Landis in many ways created the show and wrote a number of the episodes but seems to be a manipulative, sexually abusive, rapist piece of shit. I don't think he's gone to prison or anything but apparently there were rumours about it for years before people finally spoke up in the #MeToo era (era for lack of a better word). It raises a lot of questions about the morality of supporting a work where someone liked him held a lot of influence and direction, but with film and TV I feel there are too many people working on a product to discount it on the shit character and actions of one individual. It's up for individuals to decide what they are okay with, but I would still endorse this show because I believe it is worth watching.
Slightly more well known than Dirk Gently's Holistic De
... keep reading on reddit โกFigured I'd shoot my shot even though this is a somewhat obscure fandom in case anyone knows of some gems I haven't come across. Gen, shipping, whatever is fine by me. Thanks in advance!
I absolutely love this show and have watched it over and over again so many times, where I can kinda watch it in my head. I would absolutely love any suggestions that are similar to this showโs particular brand of quirky, funny and creativity. Thanks in advance!
Hey! Over the last three of months I've asked some questions in here, since, as I mentioned in a couple of my posts, I was writing an essay on Dirk Gently's Holistic Detectiv Agency. You guys have been so helpful with your responses, they truly allowed me to gain some insight, thank you so much! The essay is finally done, and I thought I might post it here in case anyone finds it interesting/useful. Here it is: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RIMDpe2NFCfjFa2jbgrR8rvn6szSralh/view?usp=sharing
A couple of notes:
Hi! I'm writing an essay about the industry and authorship angles of this show, and I gotta say, I'm... confused. The show is a co-production between BBC America and Netflix, along with AMC Studios, Ideate Media and IDW Entertainment, right? However, it's not available on USA Netflix. When played on Netflix, it states "A Netflix original series", but when played on BBC it says "BBC America presents". Is this normal? Shouldn't both companies be credited?
Perhaps it's a stupid question, but I just don't understand how the production of this show worked and I'm unable to find much information about it :c
My first language is not english, which might have worsened my understanding of the last couple of chapters, but i seriously did not get what happened just after they walked into the "ship". How did they stop the ghost? What does Coleridge have to do with anything? And what about the music and the time machine being destroyed? Can anyone help me understand?
As much as i like Douglas Adams, his books are the only ones i sometimes just do not understand and i hope i'm not the only one who thinks so.
i really shows with a goofy style of (effectively magic) sci-fi/fantasy that doesn't explain itself and doesn't make much sense until the end, preferably with time travel. there's also a couple doctor who storylines like this
Mir ist die Nachbarskatze im Treppenhaus auf dem Weg nach unten zwei mal entgegengekommen und als ich unten ankam, lief sie gerade durch die Tรผr nach drauรen.
Zach has mentioned that Dirk Gently was an inspiration for the story. I just found the recent-ish BBC series on Hulu. I'm only a couple of episodes in, and I think that if you liked Zach's story you might like this.
Also Elijia Wood is in it.
Hi, I watched the show after it appeared on suggestions list. Loved it and couldn't stop watching.
Now I came to reddit and found out it has been cancelled. I'm kind of crushed.
Is DG based on a comic book or books I could read? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Many thanks
Given a weeks time, could the worldโs most esteemed and only holistic detective, Dirk Gently, catch consulting criminal, Jim Moriarty? Dirk would have the help of Todd, Farah, and the rowdy 3. Moriarty would have whatever criminals could hire in that time.
Especially the story of Nakata, Also I can't help but imagine Kafka as Will in His Dark Materials stuck in the city of Cittร gazze**.** The Alchemist can also be placed on same frequency.
At the same time, there is a certain reassurance in the novel, as if you want it to be part of your memory, real or not. But who cares, memories are deceptive things anyway.
I collect books... kinda. I have a full shelf of hardback books that I like, many first editions, some signed, but nothing that I think is really valuable. They've all been books I've bought myself when I stumbled upon them either new or in used book stores. I just looked up one of the books I thought might be worth something, "Now We Are Sick" edited by Neil Gaiman and Stephen Jones, which had a very limited printing, and I find it is selling for around $150 which I guess is fine since I think I paid under $20 for it new.
I recently decided that I'd like to try and buy the first edition of my favorite book, "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" by Douglas Adams. It's not a very popular book as most people are more familiar with his Hitchhiker's series. I've done some research, but have really just learned enough to make me think I should ask for help from people who know what they are talking about.
I know there are different versions of the book and I would like to get the first 1st printing, as I don't know if he might have published it with, for example a UK publisher. But the prices that I am seeing from what I think are all that first 1st edition are all over the place, from as low as $10 and as high as $400ish. Signed editions do seem to jack the price up a bit, but still there is wide price fluctuation there too. I'm seeing different ISBN numbers that all seem to be the same May 15th 1987 version and I'm confused. Then I saw on Goodreads a Jan 1st 1987 edition by Turtleback Books, a company my research seems to indicate they do school versions or something, and don't seem like a publisher that Douglas might have used back in the late 80's.
Please help.
How much you wanna bet this subreddit has an auto-mod that is going to remove this post because it thinks I am trying to buy or sell the book here, as opposed to looking for help so that I know what to look for to buy the book elsewhere?
I want a binge-worthy sci-fi show for me to escape from reality.
Dirk Gently really sparked the fantasy interest for me, it was that good. It did something unique for me, joined the magical element with fun. Before that I never really enjoyed anything fantasy, found them to be too serious and boring.
Like why is every fantasy show a drama? And why does every fantasy show so dependent on the "you won't understand" trope? and if that's not all, how come every time protagonist defeats the so called impossible villain, another impossible villain appears? So the earlier impossible villain was not really the impossible villain huh?
To me so far Dirk Gently has to be the perfect fantasy show so far, the show was just so much fun!
And it was just building up to a larger story arc with minor villains filling up the two seasons when it was cancelled.
Fun characters, Atleast the 2 seasons it didn't have an impossible villain they had to defeat, A comedy fantasy series (So rare) and the main character himself are my reasons why I think it was a perfect show and needs to be brought back or at the very least get some more fun fantasy shows made.
Comparing to shows:
If anyone knows any fun fantasy shows that doesn't circle around kids please let me know.
I was so sad when i found out it wasn't getting renewed for a season 3. Is there even a small chance that it'll be renewed at some point?
So, I've ready basically everything by D.A. And T. P. But most recently I finished a long marathon of Stephen King and Chuck Palahniuk (very bleak), and I need something fun and light to pull out of a bit of a personal downward spiral. I love all of these books are irreverent, and I want something funny, witty, but with some depth.
Unfortunately I'm not a fan of Christopher Moore, so not that set. Hope this helps, and thanks for the recommendations in advance. I can't believe how helpful this group has been for me!
Anyone else love Dirk Gently? Iโm rewatching S1 right now and recognizing so many spn cast members just in the first 2 episodes

Like guys, this show is an absolutely good time to watch while baked. It's on Netflix. You gotta watch it.
Full disclosure: I'm on episode 3 only. But I can't stop watching!
