... keep reading on reddit ➡I know this topic has probably already been mentioned on this subreddit, but I want to take it slightly more in depth. Now, I'm not going to include Hell Freezes Over (1994) in my list, but I know some of y'all might, and that's completely fine! Anyway, I'll start:
- On The Border
This album never gets the credit or acclaim that it clearly deserves. Firstly, it has the original lineup, with Don Felder joining on two tracks (Already Gone, Good Day In Hell). Honestly, there isn't a dud track on this album and very good deep cuts with tracks like You Never Cry Like a Lover, Midnight Flyer, My Man, James Dean, and Is It True? The title track is an underrated gem and still remains one of my favorite Henley leads. On The Border is a very excellent album, mixing the elements of bluegrass and country with harder rocking tracks.
- Hotel California
Hotel California is often considered the magnum opus of Eagles career. This isn't wrong in the slightest, but the reasoning can be incorrect. Hotel California is a great song, probably still my favorite on the album, but it alone doesn't make this album as great as it has become. New Kid In Town and Life In the Fast Lane are both amazing tracks and a staple of classic rock, in general. The rest of this album is no pushover, as side one closes with Wasted Time and side two opens with its reprise. Victim of Love is a rocker, followed by two great ballads. Try and Love Again would have been my favorite deep cut, but The Last Resort is just phenomenal. I still can't believe this album didn't win the Grammy for Album of The Year in 1977.
- Desperado
Desperado has always been a wildcard in rankings or overall opinion of the album. At release, Desperado was a step in the wrong direction, as it did worse than the debut. Regardless, this album has become more appreciated among Eagles fans as time has passed. It is often criticized for being a poor and far too loosely based concept album, but I find that these criticisms fall flat. A story doesn't have to be linear to succeed. Desperado provides snapshots, sketches, and impressions of a young outlaw moving throughout his life and the predicaments he faces on the way. Mainly, the protagonist is involved in three story lines. You follow him through his transition from a young, bright eyed boy into a man in songs like Twenty-One, Certain Kind of Fool, and Bitter Creek. His dealings with women in Tequila Sunrise and Saturday Night. Finally, the protagonist decides to choose

Open Mike Eagle, Southside legend, underground hero, if you don’t know by now, I’m not gonna catch you up you can do yourself a favour and go listen to Dark Comedy, go listen to Unapologetic Art Rap, Hella Personal Film Festival, Brick Body Kids Still Daydream etcetera! I could go on the point is you are missing out and I’m not here to underwhelmingly describe in text what you could explore for yourself with your ears he has hands down one of the best back catalogues of the past 10+ years and if this album vibed with you at all and you haven’t checked out his prior releases I’m sure they’ll bless your soul too.

Anime Trauma + Divorce is an intensely blunt title, just straight up describes what you’re gonna get no fuss no muss (which is in complete contrast with his prior LP “Brick Body Kids Still Daydream”) and immediately dumps the user into the world of trauma (and anime) with the track ‘Death Parade’ describing the cycle of abuse and how you carry it from one relationship (romantic or otherwise) to the next, never directly recounting what the initial trauma is because ultimately it’s unimportant to this tale of woe, the only thing that matters is everything good and bad will have a knock on effect.
This however is just the tip of the iceberg, 2019 (yes 19! Not 20 who’d have thought) was a rough year for Mike, this album heavily details events that cut so deep they’ll probably scar permanently, the crown jewel (what a terrible circumstance for this metaphor) of which being the divorce from his wife, the effects of this scattered across this album in its entirety, showing its constant weight on ‘Bucciarati’ (with a super delicate and sombre verse from Kari Faux) even long after the initial event, or causing him to
