Currently in a Dental Anesthesiology program in the US. Ask me anything!
I'd like potentially practice anesthesiology in the future.
I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience rotating with a dental anesthesiologist?
Preceptor A, MD at a medical center.
Preceptor B, MD trained in dental anesthesiology. Would be travelling to different dental clinics each day.
Would I be missing out on a lot if I choose preceptor B?
Preceptor B popped up on my radar because his bio was concise as to what he'd teach students, expect of students, and has over 20 years in the field.
Hi everyone, I don't know if this is the right forum for this, but I am currently a D2 with an interest in the new dental anesthesiology specialty. In short, I find anesthesiology to be a very interesting aspect of medicine, and I am glad to see that this specialty exists in dentistry. While it seems to be a perfect fit for me, I am worried that there is a catch. One thing that concerns me about investing myself in a 3-year residency would be the job market. I assume that DAs aren't employed by hospitals for head and neck cases, leaving DAs to act solely as contractors in private practice (and perhaps corporate). The two main questions I have would be:
- What would stop a dentist/OMFS/periodontist/etc. from hiring a CRNA/MD over a DA?
- Are DAs and their services used often by dental providers? (given many dental professionals do their own sedations)

Does anyone know what your GPA/ranking needs to be to specialize in dental anesthesiology? What other requirements are there? Thanks in advance!
I am still fairly new to this field but I met a dental anesthesiologist today. I guess it is a 3 year residency after dental school. Does anyone have any experience or opinions on Dental Anesthesiology? Are they direct competition to Crna’s?
Obviously we've had lectures on a bunch of different types of injections, but for this lab we're focusing on IAN block with long buccal, PSA block, and local infiltration.
Can anyone in/have gone through residency enlighten me on this specialty? Training, competitive to get into, job market, salary and any other valuable info I may have missed
My oral surgeon will only put me under with an IV. I'm deathly afraid of IV's and was wondering if this is something that is rare or a common occurrence? I would love to go under with a mask on or something like that (gas). I'd hate to have to use an IV. I honestly can't explain how terrified I am of needles. I know they make you loopy with gas, but I would pay a lot of money to be put out with gas. It's very important to me. Thanks for any suggestions or advice! I'm not sure if I could call other surgeons and check if they offer gas knock-out or if IV is my only option?

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
