A list of puns related to "Danny Rolling"
I feel like I need to get this off my chest... for some reason that last Danny Rolling episode really got to me. The idea of someone breaking into your home and committing such brutal murders and then the degradation of the bodies, and the fact that he "apologized" profusely for it... I've been feeling depressed the past few days thinking about it, just the fact that something like that could happen. I'm almost considering not listening to the show anymore because I honestly can't justify consuming this as "entertainment..." it just doesn't feel fair to the victims. I've been a listener for years and I got through all the heavy hitters, cults, even fucking Roch Theriault and I wasn't this affected... I don't know what it is. Anyone else feel the same?
I would like to try and put it in a school presentation in my criminal justice class. My case is on Danny rolling and what he did and I want to go really in depth for this presentation and I know the tapes were a big part of how he was finally caught
Just wanna know what people think
The term they are looking for is Leering. Peeping is too cute, criminal voyeurism is too confusing. Heβs guilty of leering!
Just now catching up on the Danny Rolling series and man this really has me thinking about security on the 1st home I just bought. Was just curious if you guys ever have similar thoughts. I could see how I could get really paranoid if I focus on it too much. Usually the show doesn't bother me but the description of these crime scenes...damn
Usually I ignore most of the posts on this subreddit that complain that the show has gotten super soft after the move to Spotify and literal ad-rolls for ADT Security (HOW HAS NOBODY TALKED ABOUT THIS YET??? IT'S FUCKING INSANE!).
Danny Rolling Part II, however, has really shaken my faith. How on earth is this considered a Gold Star? Katherine Knight? Dennis Nilsen? Dean Corll? Bob Berdella? Peter Kurten?
I don't mean to be flippant, but outside of his wacky personality, Danny Rolling's actual crimes are, for an 7 year veteran of this show, are about as "straightforward" as they come. I'm going to be so incredibly sad if this is the direction the show is headed. End of an era...
Does anyone else agree or am I crazy?
(Oh and sidebar, I noticed in a recent episode, can't remember which one, that our fav trio were actively avoiding saying the phrase "GET THE NET!". I have no idea why.)
Does anyone know if the song Danny sings during court is an original or a cover? My searches have come up empty. Something like, "Whaaaat were my words, all my tears run together..."
I was really hoping the boys would cover Danny Rolling soon. I live in Florida and in the early nineties Gainesville (university of Florida) was terrorized by this guy for a week I think? I actually lived in Gainesville for 8 years after this happens and the stories were interesting. The town was completely abandoned out of fear, girls were changing their hair color. In the end, I think he murdered/raped 4 women and killed one male. He would position the bodies in sexual poses and even severed ones head to place it on the mantle, as if to watch. Kevin Williamson based the entire βScreamβ movie on this event. Would love to hear them cover it
Danny Rolling aka. the gainesville ripper killed 5 students in a four day killing spree at University of Florida in august of 1990. When he was apprehended police found a audio recorder containing diaries he had made alluding the crimes at his one-man camp in a wooded area. It also contained self recordings of him performing several self made songs.
The link is to his song mystery rider which I find very chilling considering what he has done and I believe the lyrics is about him self. To be honest, he was quite talented.
I am not sure what to think and feel about this. I am very much conflicted by liking his music. On the one hand he murdered people and disgusts me. On the other hand he recorded this beautiful music that really speaks to me. I almost loath him for making me like his music. Also makes me think what the fuck is wrong with me xDThe way interpret his song is that he is trying to paint a very twisted, glorified picture of himself. Thinking of himself as a mysterious creature that a black stallion - a symbol for power and potency (given the sexual nautre of his murders I think this interpretation of a symbolic black stallion is valid) - brings to town. Seeing as he is riding a symbol of power and potency he makes himself out to be the master and in power of potency. Apart from that he paints himself as virtually almighty considering the black stallion is bringing the Grim Peaper, in other words death, which he surely was to his victims, and no one is mightier than death. It comes to all of us. Even an almighty deity as God or Allah or whomever. They all had a birth and will have a death just as any other gods. In a way he is praising himself and showing pride for his "work", a hybris even. His positive self image becomes apparent in the lines where he is painting himself as rebel. This term brings a lot of positive connotations with it. People generally like rebels. They stick it to the man, don't they? But contradictory of using the term rebel he actually paints himself as an outlaw who is able to do whatever the hell he wants because no one can tame him. The outlaw image becomes apparent when he mocks and challenges LE by calling the Sheriff a "tin star" and telling the bar tender to tell him that he, Rolling the Grim Reaper, is in town. In a way he is even threatening to kill LE. An unbelievable amount of hybris. Because he is not only mocking the Sheriff but the institution and the very concept of LE by not personally mocking the Sheriff but LE's very own symbol. The Sheriff's star. Seeing as this song seems to be placed in the times of the Wild West and the Sheriff's office was pretty much the first or at least the most recognised institution of LE the choice of mocking the star seems almost natural. Well, anyway this is my take on the lyrics. But I just have to admit that this sick bastard had crazy talent. His ability to compose music, his voice, his way of delivery and his lyricism, twisted and even sadistic as it may be, are just outstanding. It boggles

I am looking for trial transcripts, interview transcripts, or any other relevant materials for Danny Rolling. I am not sure where to start to search for his trial transcripts. I believe he only faced the penalty phase and this was in Alachua County, FL in 1994. Any pointers would be appreciated!!!

Obviously it's pretty much impossible to imagine Always Sunny without Danny DeVito after 13 seasons of him playing Frank. But considering the main reason he was added to the show in the first place was because FX wanted a big name to attract viewers, are there any other A-listers that you think would've been a good fit in the horrifying alternate timeline where Danny DeVito doesn't join the cast?
For the record, this doesn't necessarily have to be for the role of Frank Reynolds. He was clearly written with Danny DeVito already in mind, so even if this other actor were to play Dennis and Dee's "dad," it would likely be an entirely different character than the one we got. It's more about who would've fit the whole tone/vibe of the show, regardless of the actual role they'd be playing.
