Cross Country Running Shoe

Hi. I'm starting cross country soon in school and I'm looking at what spikes to get. I was looking at the Nike zoom victory 5 XC and the Nike zoom victory 3. The first ones say XC so are those meant for Cross Country and the others for track?

Good cross training shoe for running?

Hey guys, I’m looking for a shoe that offers some comfort to run in while also being stable enough to lift in - for those metcons with 400m runs. I’ve seen athletes go with No Bull runners, but I’m curious if the Reebok 21 TR is recommended as well.

Experiences with cross-trainers/not-running shoe running shoes

Looking for recommendations for a cross-trainer with a running bias.

Shoes I've used

metcon 5

pegasus 38

zoom rival m9

mamba 5

What I'll be doing:

running (longer side of mid distance, short end of long distance), push ups, sit ups, pull ups, shuttle runs, rope climbs, at the very least. While on other occasions I will probably have the chance to switch shoes or use a specialty shoe, the aforementioned movements will all be performed together in a time limit, and having a versatile shoe simplifies things as well.

While I've run longer distances in the regular metcons, why be uncomfortable if I don't have to?

Issues with the pegasus 38: I tend to lose toenails when running faster with them, at least in doors, which is where I'll be doing this all. Outdoors they tend to be fine. Also not sure how doing shuttle runs in them will feel. I like the cushioning but they're kinda high. They're fine for bodyweight movements, but not sure how they'll hold up to rope climbs.

I do like the feeling of being closer to the ground, and even the mamba 5 and zoom rivals cushioning feels better than the metcons when running. Plate makes you feel "fast AF boiiiiii". Unfortunately I'm not aware of any cross trainers with plates in them, and spikes can't be used.

I haven't tried the "react metcon turbos" or the "free metcons", so I was thinking of checking them out as their similar to what I'm familiar with and the turbos at least sound like they might be more biased towards the running end of the spectrum.

I'm curious about the Altra Solstice XT2s, but I have no experience with them. I'm also thinking about Inov8s possibly, but not familiar with their line up/models.

Thoughts/opinions/experiences?

HS cross country and track runner, new to barefoot and minimalist running. What are the best minimalist shoes for different terrains (asphalt, grass, trails, small gravel, big gravel)? I’m in Northeast US, currently winter.

Since I started running 3 years ago I’ve always had problems with shin splints. Today at track practice I did a warm up with normal shoes which got my shins hurting a bit. Then I did my run barefoot (on asphalt) and my shins felt fine, but my coach told me I can’t run barefoot. For good reason I guess, I got some blood blisters and scrapes on my feet.

Are there minimalist shoes that would work for me? I usually run on lots of different surfaces, as I mentioned in the caption. I usually do about 30 MPW during cross country and track seasons, and I am going to train for a half marathon this summer. I’ve been doing a lot of research here on this subreddit, and I couldn’t find a post that had info on the best shoes for noobs and various surfaces.

What’s the best shoe that will give me protection, offer relative comfort on various surfaces, and offer durability on various surfaces? I’m currently looking at Teslas, Vibram 5 fingers, Merrell vapor gloves, and Skinners.

Also, should I get shoes with a rock plate? How much does that affect the minimalist running experience?

Shoe for running AND cross training?

I am looking for a running shoe that also works well for HIIT training and light weight lifting. I travel frequently for work and alternate run days with strength and conditioning days. I don’t want to bring two pairs of fitness shoes with me for 2-3 day trips.

I run in Hoka Arahis and love them for long distance running, but HATE them for bodyweight HIIT training in hotel gyms. I have a pair of Nike Odyssey Reacts that are okay for both purposes, and may buy them again, but wanted to see what else was out there. Looking for something with lateral support for side to side movement but also good for quick runs.

Any good recs for something that’s more all-purpose and can be used for shorter (up to 5 mile) runs as well as other exercising?

##Russia is pursuing Armenia to join the "3+3" regional communication unblocking platform, supported by Iran, Azerbaijan, and Turkey / Latest updates from Iran-Azerbaijan crisis / Armenian man to be jailed for "damaging Armenia-Iran relations"

Russian MFA spokeswoman: Russia and Iran held a meeting yesterday. Russia pursues a comprehensive policy, including dialogue with all players in the region. We discussed the 3+3 proposal yesterday. Iran supports it. //

Russian MFA Lavrov: I discussed the 3+3 with Iran, about the unblocking of regional economic and transport routes. Iran expressed a positive stance, and so did Azerbaijan and Turkey. We're currently working with our Armenian colleagues. We hope Georgia will see the benefits of this mechanism to achieve rapid growth in the region; they have also suffered from the regional conflict. //

Anonymous Russian diplomat: the 3+3 was initially proposed by Turkey, but Russia recently took over as the active promoter. This is understandable because otherwise, if Turkey was the initiator, Armenia would not have joined. This is why Turkey made the gentlemen's move by handing over the mandate to Russia and Iran.

If 3+3 succeeds, it will hold discussions about the region in general, not just about military and frozen conflicts. This will differ from OSCE because the latter is focused only on the Karabakh conflict.

Back in March, the Georgian Premier said they will not join any platform with Russia. Their rejection discourages Armenia's membership because Armenia could have concerns about a lack of "balance" of members, and the platform being less efficient without one of the players (Georgia). Right now it's more realistic to talk about 3+2 but Georgia could join at any time. //

Is strength training (3-5 rep range) counterproductive to cross country running (8k race)?

I (22M) used to run cross country 2-3 years ago. My first 8k race was untrained and I ran approximately 40 minutes. Two months elapsed, where I trained on and off (2 times a week), and ended up running 37 minutes for the last race of the season. During this time, although I was training on and off, I still managed to improve every race.

Fast forward to today, I ran my first 8k again untrained because I stopped running during the pandemic. I managed to complete the race in about 39 minutes. The thing is that this season I’ve been lifting very heavy in the gym for about 4 months and I feel as though it may be affecting my performance during races. I say this because my second race I ended up running the race in 41 minutes which is worse than how I perform completely untrained.

I should note that in the last 4-5 months of weight lifting I’ve gotten much stronger. My lifts for reps: bench went from 95lbs to 135lbs, squat went from 120lbs to 180lbs, and my deadlift is currently 225lbs.

Just started running cross country but losing motivation to keep running. What should I do?

I'm 13 years old in middle school and decided to sign up for cross country. The first day we had to run a mile. My time wasn't the greatest, it was 13:50. The next time I went, I ran the mile just with different terrains including inclines and declines. For that, my time was 11:01. The next time I ran the mile with the different terrains it was worse, 11:26.

I put my heart into each practice, even the warmups aiming to improve but I feel like it's all for nothing. I don't know if I should keep showing up for practice or just stop. What do you guys think?

Running Cross Country makes me a superior human to you.

Running cross country makes me a superior human being in to you. It's a simple enough concept to understand that I'm sure even numskulls such as your self can recognize. It starts with the mental fortitude, I can easily run 3.1 miles (5 kilometers) (.89 leagues) in under 18 minutes, 46 seconds, and 35 tenths. Yes that is a mile average of 6 minutes, 25 seconds, and 11 tenths thank you very much. This is something you plebeians could only dream about. You would likely give up within the first 400 meters (.25 miles) (.072 leagues) and experience extreme mental trauma. I eat that distance for breakfast with my simple warm up being 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) (.43 leagues). Even if you managed to get past the extreme mental trauma you would still have countless physical issues. You would likely die from over exertion if your BMI is anywhere near 20. Mine is a 15.7 and it is peak physical condition. Unlike you I have a 0% fat to body weight ratio with the other 100% being defined, lean muscle and hard, throbbing cock. My body is a temple and it is dedicated not to a god but to me, the only person worthy of worship. Even if you have the mental capacity and the physical fitness you will never posses the skill to pick one foot up and then place the other down in quick rhythmic succession. That is something which only I possess. As you can see there are several traits which make me superior to you and if you can't understand them I wouldn't be surprised. You are scum compared to me, get used to it.

Best running shoes for getting back into Cross country shape?

I ran track and cross country from 2010-2016, and lifted weights/bulked up to 185 lbs after 2016. I am now trying to slowly get back to the running shape I was in, especially since my body/joints are adjusting to my new weight.

I used to wear Saucony Kinvara 4-5's, and now there are the 10's I guess (haven't tried them).

What would be the best pair of running shoes to run between 2-6 miles, and occasionally speed runs/track workouts?

(Side note: I have more back pain than most 21 year olds, so shoes that also help that would be ideal.)

So You Want To Run Cross Country (or Distance Running) in College?

Hi r/AdvancedRunning,

I wrote a (lengthy) blog post a few years back regarding running in college, recruitment process, and considerations for HS athletes. Some of it still seems It still seems relevant now so I provided the text version in a post over on r/CrossCountry. Some info may is outdated, but I wanted to provide whatever information I could as a former D1 XC runner, NCAA qualifier, and HS/college coach.

Years later, I am finally getting around to working on a 2nd version to provide more up-to-date and accurate information. I am only getting further and further removed from the college recruitment process and collegiate running scene, and would GREATLY appreciate any feedback to make it a better and more accurate resource this time around.

Any feedback is appreciated. If you don't feel comfortable posting, feel free to reach out individually as well.

(Note: Mods, I have not linked to my blog/site. Any links provided were references used in the blog from NCAA and such. If those aren't permitted - please feel free to remove).

--------------------------------------------

Many athletes want to consider whether or not competing in college is an option for them, but don’t know where to begin. I wanted to put together a detailed breakdown so you know exactly what to expect if you wish to pursue athletic competition for Cross Country or Distance Running in college.

To start, the most important thing is finding a college that fits you. Put your academics and own self growth above competing at a University. If you broke your leg the first week on campus, would you still be happy with your choice? Things to consider when looking at the mass amount of colleges:

⁃ In-State vs Out of State

⁃ Do you want to live in a big city or small town?

⁃ Major University vs Small School

⁃ Private vs Public

⁃ Admissions Standards

⁃ Cost of Tuition

⁃ Financial Aid packages offered.

⁃ Majors/Departments (Do they offer what you want to study?)

⁃ Alumni Network

You can find all of this information for schools at websites like www.PrincetonReview.com. In addition to the items listed above, it also includes acceptance rates, breakdown of GPA, 25-75th percentile ACT/SAT, Cost of tuition, average financial aid package, etc. It’s never too early to start reviewing what schools interest you. If you’re traveling you may want to stop and visit a prospective schools as you’re passing through.

Just my cross country story, just finished my fourth season of xc in high school and I won’t be running with a college team.

I don’t know who’s gonna read this, but about a month ago my last cross country race happened. I knew cross country was my first sport in high school, and I fell in love with it. It was actually my first organized sport ever, so it was all the more meaningful.

I joined cross country because my school didn’t cut from the team, meaning i could just join. I made some of my best friends in high school there during that team, and made lots of memories that some people forgot but I never really did. I wasn’t amazing either, but I did manage a 7:30 mile at the end of the season.

My sophomore year, I took it a whole lot more seriously. I ended up skipping indoor freshman year, but outdoor was the season I really committed. My sophomore xc season was probably one of the most fun ones, as I improved drastically and even scored at the sophomore level. It was here that I realized this was my sport, along with indoor and outdoor track, for all of high school.

My junior year, this was when I performed my best. Making the JV A team, I crushed the hills at Van Cortland and honestly enjoyed it. It was then that I realized I had big goals for the rest of my time, since I was halfway through high school. Goals in my events, from the 400 - mile. I ended with a 5:30 mile.

My senior year, which the season just finished, was bittersweet. I wasn’t hitting my times from last year, and I missed my season finale due to a quarantine because of exposure. But in my last race, before my quarantine, I gave it my all and then some. I’m proud to have run for my team, and I’m putting in that work for indoor. Even though I won’t be running with a team, I know I gave my all in the end.

Well, if you’re still here, thank you. This has probably been the most important thing to me in all of high school, as it was something I could work towards for the whole time here. And here I am, training my way to my next indoor race, hoping to go sub 5 in the mile in January. Thanks again.

Edit: Thank you all for the awards and comments! I wanted to tell my story because it's very meaningful to me, and I'm glad I was able to encourage you guys in your running lives. I'll do my best to respond to everyone, no idea this would blow up this much! God bless y'all.

What system should I use to run a post-apoc cross-country truck chase?

I have a short campaign in mind for my group involving a smuggling run across a post-cataclysm America. The idea is that session one involves a team being put together for the run and are tasked with resourcing a small convoy of vehicles while the job-giver puts together a safe route from, say, Portland to Jacksonville. Before they can get the route, the bad guys show up, forcing the crew to leave in a hurry and find their own way across a dangerous, factional country within the ten-day time limit, with a constant threat giving chase. It's not quite Mad Max - the tone I'm going for is more along the lines of Fallout does Smokey And The Bandit.

I can handle the map design, factions and obstacles, but I don't really know what system would handle this game best. I need something with solid vehicular combat mechanics - chases and firefights with run-down 80s/90s-era technology. I want stunts, hijacking, ramming, and a bit where the bad guys hit the gas tank and the mechanic has to climb out on a truck doing 65 along a cracked, rough freeway to fix it without stopping. In downtime sections, I want the players to have to negotiate safe passage, trade for gas, find places to rest safely and get into ground fights. The world has no magic, at least nothing supernatural that the players can make use of.

I want all this to be reasonably rules-driven, with the GM and mechanics setting the challenge, and nothing in the way of handing in Destiny Points to declare that there's a ramp that'll take the convoy over the bridge that's out. I'm thinking this will be a 6-12 session sort of thing with repairs and resources a constant problem.

What systems should I look into to run this? What are the best systems for vehicle use? Is there a Mad Max focused system I can adapt? How're your vocal cords, Bandit?

EM accuses my Cross-Country Running coach of pedophila and bans the girl's team from wearing proper running equipment.

"Brad" was a simple kid. Lived a simple life as far as I knew. He was on the junior varsity team his freshman year of high school, never stirred to many waves, never got out'n'about, and stuck with his close friends. Introvert through and through. Or so I thought...

I was a senior at the time and on the varsity team, so we never spoke more than a couple words and I knew very little, if anything at all, about his life at home. However I witnessed this story unfold in all its horrifying glory. Dear readers, please take a seat or lie down for what you're about to read. Or don't, I don't care, I simply want to set the mood. Let us begin.

--

The girl's cross country team was somewhat segregated from the boys team and we rarely ran together during those practices adventuring far from the track. This particular run was an 8 mile easy run during the hot and dry summer months of Colorado (Please keep in mind I say "easy run" in terms of the type of workout, in no way do I say this to be pretentious). Anyways, my friends and I arrive back at the parking lot, sweaty, shirtless, and in the shortest shorts socially acceptable. Keep in mind that I am, in fact, a male. The girls team arrived shortly thereafter, similar style shorts and wearing sports bras. This is not a strange occurrence as it is brutally hot outside and we just ran up and down the side of a mountain.

The JV team had finished their run slightly before us as their distance was different. I saw my coach talking to the various runners, giving advice, water, congratulations, and other typical coach things. However one new sight met my eyes as I jogged into the parking lot. The scorching bright light of a completely silver and polished Chevy Suburban. Best Adidas shoes for running Cross Country?
