Edit: Went to my local Academy to buy some ammo, grab a couple boxes of Hornady American Gunner 124 gr and on the next isle over I seen some Romeo Zeros there with the protector covers so I grabbed one. Just mounted on my Canik, looks pretty good. I think I'm good with that.

Took my new Shield Plus out to the range today for the first time. It's my first Smith and Wesson, first micro compact (I've only ever shot duty-sized pistols before), and one of my first guns ever (I only started getting into guns this summer).
I mostly want to speak to the optic I put on it, a Crimson Trace 1550. I didn't feel like grinding the mounting posts off my pistol to get a Holosun 407K to fit, and there's no adapter plate available for this pistol yet. Apparently the Shield 2.0 adapter plates from CHWS might work, but I'll let someone else take that risk, so I went with the Crimson Trace 1550. I know CT isn't super appreciated around Reddit, and it's definitely a cheap sight (Currently $125 on Amazon), but it has some upsides as well:
- There's no buttons to mess with. It's always turned on and auto-adjusts to ambient light. Obviously shake-awake is a better option, battery life-wise, but I'm fine with needing to replace the battery every 2 years or so. It does turn itself off when there's no ambient light (such as when you put the included cover on it) but I've checked in my super dark house and it does NOT turn off unless it's absolutely pitch-black. If you can see your target well enough to identify/shoot it, it'll be turned on.
- It co-witnesses perfectly with the iron sights on the Shield Plus, out of the box (Pic included)
- Crimson Trace's customer service seems pretty good (I've seen a customer service account on Reddit posting pretty regularly)
Shot about 200 rounds today, it held up great. It was really easy to zero with the iron sights co-witnessing, and it held zero no problem. Of course, the real test is how well it's holding zero (or holding together at all) a couple thousand rounds down the road. Time will tell.
I want to be clear, I don't carry this gun. I just wanted a gun that I COULD carry with, once I feel more confident in my skills. If/when I start carrying it daily and need to trust my life with it, I'll probably just sell a kidney and go with an RMR. However, if this sight is still going after another 800 rounds or so, I would feel pretty confident carrying with it if I needed to.

Looking for a new EDC. Currently carry a Kahr PM-40 with a Crimson trace and hiviz front sight. I have small hands (petite women). I really like the feel and reliability of the Kahr. 40 S&W isn't a problem for me concerning recoil. I think maybe I just want a new toy 😂. Considering a revolver. Possibly a Ruger LCR. Crimson trace is a must as I carry in low light situations and have trained a lot with the Crimson trace. I purse carry and sometimes belt slide if I'm wearing jeans. Opinions appreciated. 🙂
