A list of puns related to "Criminal justice system of Japan"
To explain what I mean, I'd like to provide two examples of issues I believe are more critical than racism. But I'd like to know what your thoughts are:
This is super random, and I apologize, but Iβm a CRJ masterβs student in the U.S. and weβre studying how corrections in the U.S. differ from other countries.
While reading an article about Norwegian prisons and your justice system, I just want to commend you guys on how well you focus on rehabilitation.
Like, the bar for the U.S. corrections system is in hell and Iβm just like, do you guys realize how amazing you (Norway) are?
Like, Iβm jealous af because, Norway? Are you Godβs favorite? How? The slayage of everything you guys do? We love to see it? (Iβm a millennial haha. This is how Iβm trying to show my love)
Once again, apologies for the awkwardness and randomness. I feel like Norway doesnβt get enough hype from other countries about how well you look after your own.
A continual impoverished stressful or endangered life situation > leads to actions of those who feel threatened (drugs, robbery, asssults, serious crimes) > leads to criminal records that disqualify the individuals from all but the worst of jobs (low pay, no benefits, very stressful work) > leads to continued desperation and stress and the feeling of being threatened > leads to more criminal acts out of desperation and stress > leads to bigger criminal records and the lifelong inability to get a remotely decent job that would provide them the means to climb out of their hole.
I just don't get it. I don't see where Americans find any justice in any of this. I don't see how the police and courts can actually pretend like they're doing anything other than perpetuating the violence and crime they claim to be against.
Japan has a 99.9% conviction rate which sounds bad and it is but βin 1990 over 70 percent of criminal cases were not sent to the prosecutorβ so itβs not as bad as it sounds but itβs still really bad they donβt have juries for less serious crimes, basically anything less than murder you donβt get a jury they didnβt have them at all until 2004
So I just found out something horrifying apparently Japan still has Capital punishment with over 80% of the population βbelieving that the death penalty is "permissible"β and they still do executions by hanging holy fuck I mean itβs probably better than lethal injection and they donβt do public executions or anything but still capital punishment is not ok

Resource: This is a link to a website in Santa Rosa, CA, which advocates for domestic violence victims, rape victims and outlines what to expect as "normal" investigation in these cases, and how to tell if the police are not following procedure. It also outlines how to advocate for yourself within the system. It also focuses on the level of police and judicial discretion in charging, which is identified as one of the main barriers to justice for DV and rape victims.
So far our only argument is that ,under The Code for Crown Prosecutors, there must be a βrealistic prospect of convictionβ in order for a case to go to court. Considering the complexities in collecting evidence for rape and other such crimes, many cases fail before even reaching the courts and so prosecution is simply not viable. (Considering there must be proof beyond all reasonable doubt when convicting in criminal cases).
The house will have hard hitting facts and statistics about the sheer lack of convictions for rape etc- that arenβt available to us, the opposition. So we are struggling on how to dispute them.
Thank you :)
