A list of puns related to "Credit Lyonnais Building"
Iโve had a secured credit card for the last year and a half. Finally built my score up from 415 to 692, only 8 points away from 700. This was HUGE for me, I was so excited. I was offered a credit card through the same bank, Capital One, with a $4k like of credit. This was also huge for me because Iโd never been approved for a credit card before, let alone for that limit.
So I thought, hey, why keep the secured card when I have an actual credit card through them now! Iโll just cancel my secured account and get that deposit back and switch to using my credit account. So I canceled it, then two days later I was notified that my score dropped 88 points. Literally the only update to my credit was that I closed an account. I wanted to cry. Iโm almost back in the 500s. Why did this happen??? Is there anything I can do to fix it? Is it going to take another year to build back up to where I was prior to closing that account? This feels like a sick joke. It took one day to drop my score what it took one year to raise.
So, the last 10 years or so I've been "working on dying" and have not built any credit. I have an acct with a debit card and that's basically it. My thought was, why would I build for my future, when I don't see myself having a future.
Today, I need to work one step at a time to better myself for my own sake.
What are a first few steps to build credit from nothing?
Wife just got her first CC and curious whats the best approach to make sure she doesn't screw up everything?
Should be make purchases on it and pay the bill right away or should we let the debt sit for a few weeks then pay it off? We both agreed no big purchases unless we can pay it off, and no using it unless we have the money (so no living off of it.)
Any other tips would be great. I know her apr is 26% from capital one, not the best but we figured we can get this as a starting point.
Thanks in advance
Can you build your credit with a ssn only valid for work? I have a pending AOS. PLEASE LET ME KNOW. Thank you
Literally happens every week, getting sucked into fantasies and plans to do things while no effort goes in, and after day dreaming my plans out I've already exhausted the motivation to take action towards any of the seven fleeting, and temporarily all consuming ideas. Does anyone else have similar issues like this?
Hello everyone,
I have been reading a lot about how carbon credits will be HUGE in the future. To purchase or use any service in the future, you will likely need money AND carbon offsets.
I was considering building an exchange for carbon offsets on XRPL using Codius. I like Codius because it runs on Interledger Protocol, meaning that it is blockchain-agnostic. It's true IOV.
Here's an example of what I want to build: https://www.pharmaceutical-technology.com/research-reports/aircarbon-launches-global-carbon-exchange/
I'm a developer. But I need to chat with someone who has technical expertise building an exchanges on top of XRPL. Do you know how I can get started besides reading the documentation and running Google searches?
AFAF. This person would be transitioning to a student visa later in the year. But for now, how can they start building a credit history in Canada? Theyโve opened a bank account, but I donโt think that contributes to it.
Iโm working 2 jobs right now to pay off my credit card. I got a sizeable bonus from one of my jobs at the end of last year and put a decent portion of it towards my credit card and have about $14,500 left on it.
While paying off my debt, Iโve also been trying to increase my savings so I donโt have to use credit cards in case of an emergency. I have about $10,000 cash now saved.
I should be more aggressive towards paying off my credit card and then build up my emergency savings right? The APR for the credit card is about 19%. My only major expense is my car so I want to keep $5,000 cash in case I have some unforeseen major repairs that need to be done.
Edit: Thank you everyone for the great advice. Iโm gonna aggressively pay off this debt and within the next few months I can start focusing on saving again.
Hey hope everyone's year is off to a good start.
In short:
PC credit card: 25% in use (limit of 1000) Walmart card : 35% in use (limit of 2800) OSAP: 17000 (monthly payments being made) Auto loan (truck was stolen and complete loan is about to be paid off by bank, will be cleared within the month)
No other debt.
Own my other car (worth 50k) Own my home (over 1 mil) 35k in TFSA 10-15k in bank account
Started a bodyshop business in June with my partner and I'm looking to build up my credit over 740 if possible for future plans of buying a shop for ourselves (currently renting). Current score is 650.
Main bank for personal is Scotia. They for some reason denied my a momentum credit card?
Question is what's the best way to build my credit up to 740 and above. What credit cards make sense to apply for?
Thank you in advance. Any other advice would also be appreciated.
I am a female in my 30s and i have never had a credit card. I read something as a teen that said never buy anything you dont have cash in full so i stuck with that.
I have no debt from loans but its because i never had to make payments on anything. Vehicles and even phones have all been cash.
I did have some medical bills from my children but when i I pull my report those are gone except for one.
Im interested in building up credit.
Where do i even start?
My credit is on the poor end. I had a car repossessed when I was 19, (I'm 31 now) and I made a bad decision when I was 18 by getting my friend and I cell phones through at&t. She ran her bill up so much that I couldn't pay it and neither could she. I also have a decent amount of medical debt because from age 19-30 I couldn't afford insurance. I'm thinking around 20,000. I've never had a credit card in my name. I've tried applying for some to help build my credit but I keep being denied. I've heard of secured credit cards but I'm not sure how much they really help? And who would be the best to get one from? Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I wish my parents would have been more open about finances growing up. Maybe if I would have learned what it means to be financially responsible at a young age I wouldn't have made some of the stupid mistakes that I did.
After an hour of research, I realize now that I am an idiot. Both of my parents are very anti-credit and purchase everything in cash unfortunately. Iโm having to do everything on my own including understanding how things work when it comes to adulting. I plan on going to my credit union to sit down and talk to someone about credit but Iโm worried they will just try to sell me a credit card first and foremost. Iโve heard things from everyone but Iโm green to pretty much all of the terminology.
What I want to do is get a credit card thru my credit union, throw my $60 Wi-Fi bill on it, pay it off every month when itโs stated.
Please tell me why this is good (hopefully) or why this is bad. Iโm starting from ground 0 and I am hoping this is easy.
Iโm a college student (in my last year but will go to nursing school next year) if that helps. I also want one with good rewards or cash back offers.
I was suggesting to my friend that he gets a credit card to build credit and get rewards, but he doesn't trust himself to be able to responsibly use a credit card without ending up in debt. What are some ways he can build credit so that he can get house and car loans in the future or get approved for an apartment? I was going to suggest a discover secured card with a $200 limit so that you can't go very far into debt, but they automatically upgrade you after 8 months if your history is good so that wouldn't work since he doesn't trust himself. What should I suggest for him? I don't want him to end up unable to buy a home in 30 years. We are both 18 btw
Edit: I just thought - could I add him as an authorized user on my credit card and just not give him the card, so that my payments help out his score but he can't spend my money?
Hello all.
I'm 28M and my wife is 27F. We're from South America, I've been living in the UK for almost 2 years now and she's been here for a bit over 1.5 years. We're both in good jobs and we're already considering the possibility of buying a home in 2-3 years from now. However none of us have credit cards, and the fact that we've had them for years in our home country is irrelevant here unfortunately. Some questions:
I've heard some conflicting stories about mortgages and credit. I've read that it's very important to have credit history to get a mortgage, but also that credit score doesn't matter at all in the UK and it's a US thing. Is this true? (I know this isn't necessarily conflicting as those two are different things).
Given that a credit history is important, are 2-3 years even enough credit history to make a difference, supposing we get a credit card now?
Does it matter what kind of credit card we get?
Should we just use it to pay utilities, groceries and everyday things and set up a direct deposit? That's how I'd go about it but wanted to know if there's an "optimal way" of building credit.
We're both Barclays clients. I tried to check my eligibility for a Barclays credit card and the website just said it couldn't check my eligibility and I had to apply to know if I could get one. However, a failed application impacts credit score negatively. How do we go about it? Should we just apply to the most basic one? Is there a risk we'll be rejected? In case it matters, my salary is 55k and my wife's is 48k.
Thanks!
I am a recent university grad with no credit or even work experience really. I am just starting my second week of work and now that I am fully employed I have begun looking into credit cards and how to build my credit. My question may be dumb but Iโm curious since I am getting denied for most cards should I:
-get a secured credit card with a $1,500 limit.
-Buy a piece of furniture (not rent-a-center or anything sketchy like that) from west elm or something like that and pay it off monthly or even early.
Both of these options have been suggested to me but I really have no idea. Any other ideas would be much appreciated!
Bonjour !

As a younger person (18 yo student) starting out properly in life (interested in privacy since my youth, ah yes those days long ago /s), I don't really have a digital footprint linked to my real name or identity at all. That's a luxury that I'm loving. However, that ended up being a shot in the foot when Privacy.com denied me usage because they couldn't verify me haha (I had valid money in a valid bank, but even after giving them my full social they could not vet me, turning me away). I've deduced with a little help then that I need to build some credit so Plaid realizes I do indeed exist, but MB's Extreme Privacy book is more focused on retroactively saving face, so to speak (that book is my second Bible though in many ways). So no concrete helps for starting out in some of these cases per se. He mentions AmEx is solid for Privacy but starting out looked reallllly confusing with them.
My question at this time would be, how could I privately (as much as possible haha) build good credit as a student? I'm looking at a Capital One Platinum Secured Credit Card to apply for, (secured cc seems good for starting out) but I obviously know that Capital One has garbage privacy policies. What companies and methods might I use to start out, and what's the minimum amount of information I can give them (i.e. what info can I use burners on, what details do they ACTUALLY need)?
I'm not rich enough to where I'll be able to plop down tens of thousands for furniture, car, etc., so I'll need good credit for financing and loans most likely. All of this though, while I do my best to maintain a high level of privacy. I still plan to use more pseudo-anonymous payment options whenever I can. Obviously my threat model isn't government-level, but I don't want entities who don't need my information to have it (e.g. big bureaus and the trickle-down to people search websites, + other entities).
Hi Iโm new here! Looking for some advice from the experts here. So I applied for my first credit card at Wells Fargo, Iโve been banking there for 3 years now. I started with a โopportunity checkingโ account due to bad credit history and recently been upgraded to an โeveryday checkingโ account. I thought this would be a good time to apply for a credit card because Iโve only ever used debit. But I was denied. Last time I checked my credit score was 530. Now I read that Discover was a good card but will it lower my credit score if I apply and get denied again? Iโm really interested in building my credit because I need to upgrade my car and my living situation. I have a baby and Iโm taking classes online. What is my next step? I have a medical bill in collections, do I need to pay that off before I apply for another card?
Edit: Iโve actually been with Wells Fargo for 3 years now!
I have a 740-750 range score, a 14-month old mortgage, and a 2 year old card.
I've never had a car loan, but my rent used to report to TransUnion, so their report has one more account than Equifax (I'm using Credit Karma so I don't know what Experian has on me).
Would getting a second card through a local bank help me build credit faster? That would make for a total of three open accounts.
I make all my payments on time and keep the utilization low. I'm not anticipating needing new credit anytime soon, I'm just trying to get the best score I can in case I need it later in life.
