Does collagenase affect the skin in a positive or negative way? I’ve read it’s an enzyme that can go after good and bad collagen.

Tetanus is caused by Bacteria, NOT Rust or Glasses. Bacterial infection caused by Clostridium Tetani causes it.

Most people say if you get cuts from rusted metal or glasses, you need to get tetanus shots. But most are not aware of tetanus and what causes it.

Its caused by a bacteria called "Clostridium Tetani". It can be found everywhere in the environment, particularly in soil, ash, intestinal tracts/feces of animals and humans, and on the surfaces of skin and rusty tools like nails, needles, barbed wire, etc. (Google). Even a nail without rust can cause tetanus.

Especially, people are afraid if they get cuts from rusted metals or glasses. But cuts from rocks or any objects found in the environment which has tetanus bacteria can also cause you tetanus.

So next time, if you get cuts with any foreign objects, get a tetanus shot. It's life-threatening without treatment.

I recently learned about Rabies and saw many people (including me) were unaware of the fatality of Rabies. This might be true for Tetanus also so I added this post. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Collagenase plus pen/strep?

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone knows how pen/strep would affect collagenase type 1 activity? I am doing a collagenase activity assay on a collagenase solution with pen/strep.

Tested positive for Clostridium difficile Toxin B + Campylobacter

Dear people,

So three weeks ago I started having stomach cramps and diarrhoea. Hours before that started I ordered a takeaway burger that was pretty damn raw on the inside and cold (stupid, I know).

In approximately 8 days my symptoms started to improve a lot. I decided to go for a heavy training session and things worsened again after. I faced another approx 5 days of near-constant (very) foul-smelling diarrhoea, farts and periodic stomach pain/cramps, and even a light flu (38.3 celsius) for a few hours.

I took a comprehensive gut test and I tested positive for Clostridium difficile Toxin B + Campylobacter. The test was done one week ago and I got the results today

My hypothesis is that I got food poisoning due to the Burger which led to infection with Campylobacter, subsequently, this was probably an opportunity for Clostridium Difficile to proliferate and infect me?

During my symptoms, I blasted my gut with oregano oil, strong grade manuka honey (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3669629/ & https://www.researchgate.net/publication/314130940_Successful_treatment_of_persistent_Clostridium_difficile_infection_with_manuka_honey) & probiotics (visbiome)

Currently, I have no symptoms for like 5-6 days aside from bloating after eating and farting a lot. No stomach cramps anymore and no diarrhoea. The stool is pretty normal again actually. My farts and stool don't have that crazy smell anymore as well. Oh yeah, my gut also makes a lot of noise after eating.

Does this mean that I'm improving? Or did I beat the infection and I'm maybe only colonized atm?

Thank you a lot!

Is it possible to tenderize meat using enzymes (collagenase?)

Would it be possible to tenderize meat using some enzyme?

As i understand it collagen is what makes meat tough so could you use an enzyme to break it down to some degree, and is this why people use pinapples to tenderize meat?

Clostridium infection in wheat bourbon

Just a post to moan, finally made a bourbon wash I was pleased with (better efficiency, good yield) and I can distinctly smell butyric acid :(

The mash itself carried a bit of this smell but I've found unmalted oat/corn carries this smell and didn't worry too much as I added the corn to near boiling water and steralised (most, was feeling a bit idle!) things that came in contact with it after the boil but the ferment is definitely carrying the butyric acid smell.

I'll leave it be and hopefully the yeast will work fast and I can distill before it's strong enough to affect the distillate.

Thanks for coming to my ted talk

Clostridium difficile: A Report

CLASSIFIED: FOR JURLRINI HIGH COMMAND'S EYES ONLY

Title: Clostridium difficile: A Report on a Novel organism's potential as a Bioweapon

Conducted in: The Jurlrini Level 10 Biological Research Center on Hidax VI

A few years ago, first contact was made with a new species in the Korn 9 sector with a species residing on the third planet with high gravity orbiting Auris star, or Sol as the inhabitant call it. After contact, all 13 members of the team started reporting discomfort and died 4 hours later due to causes unknown at the time.

An investigation team in full protective clothing, was sent to retrieve the bodies, their scans revealed no harmful substances aboard and they doffed their protective masks, they retrieved the dehydrated bodies, the ship covered in the first contact team's body fluids and towed the ship back to the Hidax VI dry docks. Subsequently, the retrieval team also fell ill and succumbed to their infections, albeit in a longer time frame of 2 days. A full quarantine of the ships and equipment was introduced, fearful of a plot by the Homo sapiens or humans to introduce a bioweapon to the wider galactic community.

The body fluids sample was sent to the Level 10 Biological Research Center, the most advanced laboratory in the Jurlrini Empire, containing the most dangerous substances, including some previous bioweapons. What researchers found was terrifying, a rapidly dividing organism, that causes the uncontrollable release of fluids of those affected into the surroundings, with a 100% lethality rate even with the most advanced treatments (Firjal et al., 5671 GY). This organism is able to be cling on to clothing fibres, and is unable to be killed by strong acids or bases, surviving by forming a shell that protects it from harm, but when conditions are right, it'll start growing rapidly again (Hakqi, 5671 GY). This has earned it the highest class of containment, where only trained level 10 biologists can access the organism. When asked about the microorganism, the humans dismissed it as a nuisance and said it only gave them some discomfort. Human literature on their unsecured "internet" network has gave us important information regarding this bacteria. This "antibiotic" must be the antidote to this deadly organism, and should be investigated further.

Initial trials of this organism dropped from canisters in bombers against the Mumbrak on Toluab II in the 2nd Enforcement War is highly effective against the genocidal species, wit

Clostridium infection/butyric acid update

Ran my infected wheat bourbon mash today which reeked of puke during fermentation but had eased after I let it sit for a few days (figured I'd leave it for the esters to change from puke to pineapple slightly)

Used my packed column and 2x 3" bubble plates. Gave a long period of full reflux and pulled the distillate very slowly at first. After the fores/early heads cut was taken, I then pulled about 150ml of distillate that smelt like fresh pressed pineapple!

After this the rest of the run was clear (from first impression anyway), will put on oak tomorrow and see how it turns out

How can Clostridium perform gems germinate in the gut but not Clostridium botulinum?

We learnt that only children are affected if they inject the spores of C. botulinum as they can germinate in their gut because they haven’t yet developed the right environment to fight it. However adults must inject the toxin itself to develop symptoms. However, it isn’t the same for C. perfringens. Even if an adult ingests the spores, s/he can get infected as they germinate in the anaerobic conditions of the gut and then produce the enterotoxin.

How is that possible? Is it just that our gut can fight off one type of bacteria but not another?
