A list of puns related to "Charming (film)"
I love period pieces. However, lately, I'm getting tired of, well, the drama of the period dramas. I love Downton Abbey but it was a often so exhausting. And don't get me started on Thomas Hardy adaptations. There's a time and place in my viewing schedule for things like this. For me, that time is not now.
I'm just looking for things that are more lighthearted.
I'm a huge Jane Austen fan and have seen all those adaptation and variations. I've rewatched some Oscar Wilde favorites. I've finished the BBC series of The Musketeers (2014) and Robin Hood (2006). I really enjoyed the new Enola Holmes film on Netflix.
I'm open to most time periods but I am bored to tears by anything medieval.
Where do I go from here?
I rewatched my favourite comedy movie, Dumb and Dumber yesterday and it kind of got me on a Farrelly Brothers marathon. I used to just see Shallow Hal as a generic over the top early 2000s comedy film, but rewatching it again now I realize that it has a lot of charm and emotion to it that isn't common in comedy movies now.
The film uses the whole idea of the main character seeing the beautiful good "inside" of people instead of their outside appearance. Or in the case of bad people, seeing them as ugly. And there's something so funny about how over the top they go with that dynamic, but as you go through the movie, you start to realize that there are many people like this in our actual society, and you start to really feel for them instead of seeing them as comedic.
In a lot of scenes, there's no humour at all, it's just seeing Hal starting to realize how bad his view of the world was before. One scene in particular that always gets me, where Hal revisits the children's medical ward Rosemary works at.
With the other Farrelly Brothers movies, I've also noticed how much character development happens with not just the main characters, but also side characters. Like Hal's best friend Maurizio, has a full character arc completed within the film as well. The writing is really good for what you'd expect as a goofy over the top comedy.
Just worth a rewatch if you haven't seen it before or in a while. If you have time, also check out Me, Myself, and Irene (2000). I think it's the weakest of their movies, but there are some great gem jokes scattered throughout the movie.
I love quirky indie films. I particularly like Kevin Smith and Richard Linklater.
My favourite 'genre' is the one where nothing big really happens but the characters are relatable and there's a sense of maybe nostalgia or dreaminess?
I think someone referred to it as 'slice of life' at one point.
Anyway, at this time, anything optimistic is key. I don't really want to leave it feeling depressed.
I hope it isn't too specific. Haha
Anyone have any recommendations?
"Big", for me. Loved that film and Tom Hawks is a lovable actor as always. I liked its story and laughed on many moments of it. Also, that it made me wish that if I were to live a life in the future, I would love to have one just like his. However, what ruins it for me is the fact that a woman haves sex and falls in love with a child in the body of a man. That was kinda creepy and that the film portrays this as beautiful and romantic rather than problematic or something. It doesn't matter if it's a woman with a boy, it's still just as creepy as a man with a girl.
Someday my prince will cum.
Hi all, I'm thinking of writing a script for an adventure film, and I am looking for some inspiration - I'm looking for film recommendations that have a quite specific tone. Films that are family friendly but in which the threats are treated seriously, perhaps even scary, with humor and tone light enough to be family friendly. Not obnoxious or childish, but just charming or light enough (ie. Doesnt take itself too seriously) that everyone can enjoy it.
The only films that are springing to mind right now is The Goonies and maybe the original Jumanji. Possibly Where the Wild Things Are, and The Mummy (99). All are charming and the threat seems appropriately real. I guess the first season of Stranger Things would also be a good pick, though it doesn't have to be specifically horror - if anything, adventure is better.
Look forward to seeing what you come up with!
