Marketing Ideas for a certified financial planner?

Hi Everyone,

I've been trying to brainstorm some ideas for a financial planner. With all the industry restrictions it's been very difficult for me to help him. Here are some ideas we've explored together:

- Focus on SEO and getting more visibility to his site

- Create content around "big-picture mentality towards wealth"

- Work with social media financial "influencers". They educate people about finance and if anyone is interested in financial products they get referred to him.

Anything else I can do to help him?

Thank you in advance.

Using a certified financial planner pre-retirement?

I will reach FRA in June 2022. Between now & then I want to figure out the best way to "earn" the money I'll need monlthy after I retirement. I know my expenses each month & know what I want to get to live on & enjoy life. My trouble is trying to figure out where to actually get the money. Sell stocks I was given by my parents decades ago? that would generate mega-tax burden. Withdraw from my 403b? take from one of the IRAs I have? Collect SS or wait? I wanted to find someone who could help me figure this out. I have enough assets to retire, just can't figure out the best way to tap into it. I did contact a financial planner someone at work told me about, but all I got was charts of various risk/return scenarios, obviously created with some Monte Carlo statistical analysis. That is not helpful to me. I want someone to help with the whole picture, not just the investments. Has anyone used the type of professional does this kind of thing? Preferably one I can pay a one time fee to and not a % of my assets. I am a scientist and know I would not trust a financial guy to do my work, so I am happy to pay a professional to do something I can't do. But I just don't know how to find one. (that is honest). Thanks in advance!

How is Certified Financial Planner (CFP) as a career?

Hi! I have an avid interest in investments and financial planning so when i got to know about the CFP profession, i immediately marked it as a career i could pursue. However, i learned that there's a ton of exams to be taken and 4,000+ hours of apprenticeship to be completed before i can be fully certified. I don't mind going through all of that but i want to know if it'll be worth it.

How's the job outlook of a CFP in Canada and Australia and is working as an insurance agent a good first job for it since it is a sales-oriented role?

Any advice on the matter is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Do I have to be a certified broker or financial planner to charge for stock market advice?

I have enjoyed learning about the stock market and long term investing in individual stocks. I also enjoy sharing what Iโ€™ve learned and helping others passively build wealth, but if I could be paid for it, thatโ€™d be fantastic!

So, Iโ€™ve seen some people offer stock picks or portfolio building guidance on Fiverr and thought about doing the same. However, some people list some level of expertise or experience while others donโ€™t and it had me curious about the legality of it.

Would a disclaimer suffice or should I look into becoming a CFP before offering paid advice?

Edit: Iโ€™m based in the U.S.

How to find a good certified financial planner.

I have inherited a few small retirement funds that I want to roll over into something like a 401k and got a suggestion from someone to pay a certified financial planner for an hour or two of their time to help me find the right place to roll it over into. How does one go about finding a good certified financial planner to deal with a relatively small amount of money (under 100k)?

Thanks for any ideas on what to look for.

Update: thanks for all of your responses and especially the link to the wiki. I decided to do the research that people suggested, and ditch the financial planner idea entirely. I appreciate your help.

Military Certified financial planner resource?

Does anyone know of CFPs that are schooled in or have experience with military-specific benefits?

I've run into an issue before with accountants that just weren't fluent with military benefits and oftentimes turned-down any military tax questions because we are extended benefits that civilians aren't. Therefore, the accountants don't have any experience with helping us (i.e., GI bills, (lack of) medical bills, VA loans, TSPs, etc).

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Conversation with a Certified Financial Planner

This was not formal in an office environment. It was a family that invited my family for dinner. We were staying or lived on St. Simons Island.

My niece had recently married said CFP. I'm trying to keep my grandchildren corralled when I heard him talking to another couple about inflation.

Walked past him and handed him a scratched up Britannia, 10 minutes later we were having a discussion about silver. He told me that he had a client that wanted to buy silver and his research and the information per his company was that this was volatile given the prospectus age.

He then mentioned First Majestic. "Are you talking about AG and Sprott"?

Apes are everywhere.

Looking for recommendations for fiduciary, fee only certified financial planner

Post title says it all- looking for recommendations for a fiduciary, fee only certified financial planner to plan for parentsโ€™ retirement in the Fulton county area, or metro Atlanta around Duluth/Alpharetta. Would be looking for a one time advisory meeting, not someone to manage a portfolio long term.

Thanks in advance.

E-Trade versus private certified financial planner (via CUNA Mutual)

I'm getting started with investing in mutual funds and have access to a financial planner (for free) via my credit union. They are affiliated with CUNA mutual brokerage and their advice is free to me. However, they have transaction costs and fees that they pass on to customers. Only their advice is paid for by the credit union membership.

On the other hand, online portals such as E-Trade let you make trades in mutual funds (no load, no transaction fees) and you get the most number of units for the dollar value invested.

Any recommendations on using one versus the other? Any experiences that you can share? To begin with, just looking for large cap mutual funds and index funds to grow the money for the next 5-7 years.

I wouldn't call myself an expert in financial investments but definitely know more about mutual funds than an average married late 20s guy.

Certified Financial Planners Vs. Certified Public Accountants

Good Morning Everyone. I was wondering if anyone here is a Certified Financial Planner. My family friend is doing quite well for himself as a CFP, he makes north of 250K a year and only work 9 months of the year and about 20 hours a week. He also prepares taxes for small clients. This sounds like a sweet gig. I know you probably need years to build up your client base but has anyone gone down this road instead of the CPA road and been successful?
