Decades ago politicians would touch contentious issues with a barge poll for fear of offending the church & electorate. Contraception, gay rights, divorce, abortion were completely off the table. It's all flipped inside my generation, what would you regard as the catalyst.
How was it the case that Ireland remained staunchly Catholic while the entirety of the United Kingdom became Protestant? The English were able to all but eliminate the Irish language, why did they allow the church to continue?

This question has puzzled me for a bit, why is Northern Irelandβs Catholic Church growing but Irelandβs in shrinking? Iβve tried to find a reason but couldnβt find one anywhere.
