In the beginning of Trainspotting (1996), the football club that Renton, Begbie, Sick Boy, Spud, and Tommy play against were played by members of the Calton Athletic Recovery Group of Glasgow, former heroin addicts-turned-counselors who were also primary consultants for the film.

In the 1996 film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Matilda, Matilda mistakenly refers to Charles Dickens as β€œDarls Chickens”. This is a nod to another Dahl classic, The BFG, in which the BFG refers to the author as such.

It's crazy that Paul McCartney quietly made a short film about the Dead in 1996.

He had some rolls of film and some stills that his wife Linda had taken in 1967, and he spent two years assembling them into a live action film replete with captions and sound effects. Virtually no copy of it exists online, but excerpts from it feature some of their most iconic group photos from the era (like everyone crowded around the stoop of 710).

The interesting thing about it is that it probably gave Paul a chance to bask in the romanticism and exuberance of the era without being bogged down by personal baggage. He was never in their circles and so could perceive the footage from the impersonal vantage point of a fan. Also, it's worth noting that Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band was a partial homage to the convoluted band names that had proliferated in the Haight scene.

It just makes me strangely happy to know that he found a happy place in the Grateful Dead's scene and contributed iconography to it.

[TOMT][MOVIE][2000s] I can only remember a few scenes from this film, very surreal. Likely produced from a range of about 1996-2009

The few scenes in question:
A man falls into hell, a barren wasteland, he lands on a giant push pin missing the spike.

The devil talks to this man, the devil wears a bowler hat, smokes a cigar and has a dark black moustache. The man enters a bar shaped like the devils head, this bar later explodes.

Another man (potentially the same one) enters the back of a store (caravan?) and is grabbed by a sentient hand with a face and pulled up into space where he is surrounded by giant jellyfish.

There is another scene where presumably during a freakshow, a fat woman is seen lying on a couch watching TV next to a humongous pile of apples (eating one herself), there's also a mermaid?

I wish I had more details but that's all I can remember so far, I'll make edits if I remember anything else.

Trainspotting (1996) foreshadows Mark's HIV test results through the film

The film makes a point to show Mark only use clean needles. Notably, after baby Dawn dies we can see him casually handwave away a used needle that's being handed to him in favour of a new one.

This explains how, despite his surprise at "avoiding the full blown epidemic" while maintaining a "junk habit", we understand that it wasn't just good luck that he didn't contract the disease while Tommy did.
