A list of puns related to "Capes & Cowls"
I've been working on my Revan armor for a while but I totally neglected to start the cloth bits of their outfit. :') Does anyone have any good leads on base patterns to build off of?
The way he uses it to make his movements unpredictable and to draw weapons and strike from a completely hidden stance is how I've always imagined he fights normally. Sidenote, stealth should always be his main means of attack, Batman shouldn't be portrayed as bulletproof, maybe having bullet resistant gear, but never bulletproof, fighting hand to hand should be relegated to one on one fights or when he's ambushed.
After the Wayne family leaves the theatre, Joe Chill ends up shooting all three of them in Crime Alley, before running off with their wallets. Only Martha Wayne survives, with just a flesh wound, and the traumatic loss of her family drives her on to become a vigilantee.
I'm curious about this after watching the Flashpoint Paradox movie, and going on to read some of the comic. For those of you already familiar with it, we've seen from Flashpoint Paradox storyline that Martha Wayne actually does have a vengeful & violent side to her, and that all that it takes to bring this dark side out of her is to witness the death of just her son, Bruce Wayne. Upon seeing this, she quickly became the Joker in that timeline. Upon this premise, if she loses both her son and her husband, I want us to assume that she would likely decide to become Batwoman instead of Joker, and hunt down criminals rather than become one.
All that being said, how does Martha Wayne's version of Batwoman differ from Kate Kane's version?
What differences might we see between them in terms of fighting style/skill, tactics, gear, investigational skills, alter-ego, persona, etc.?
Is Martha likely to take in sidekicks (Robin/Batgirl/etc)?
Also, assuming that they both end up operating in Gotham, would they get along with each other?
Interesting combination I know. It was just something thatβs been on my head lately.
I created this superhero reskinning of John Harper's Lasers and Feelings RPG, along with some basic character sheets. Since I found out about Lasers and Feelings here, I thought that maybe some people would be interested.
I'd love to hear your thoughts. Rules presentation, visuals, etc - let me know what is good and what could use improvement.
Edit: Rules updated to reflect some of the comments below. Thanks for the suggestions everyone!
Edit: Much later update. Name change to Cape and Bureau (since Capes and Cowls is already a game), plus some retheming to go along with that. Links adjusted to new name.
Just finished a huge rules-rewrite of Cape & Bureau, and now the entire game fits on a single sheet of paper: here's the pdf. The game in a paragraph:
The world is in peril. The Bureau of Civic Protection maintains an elite team of highly-trained metahumans for just such an event. All hope rests on this unit of overpowered federal goons in capes. Are they heroes, agents, or something else?
It's a lightweight, narrative-focused superheroes game that requires zero prep. It was originally a re-theme Lasers and Feelings, but since then I've changed the core mechanic, added a pseudo-damage track, removed the ship mechanics... basically I have a similar "Create an Adventure" chart and a "Learn some metagame information" mechanic. I also borrowed the idea of baking vivid action descriptions into the mechanics from Nefertiti Overdrive, currently on kickstarter (go check it out).
If you don't like PDFs, or if you are reading on a mobile device, the full rules are also available online in a mobile friendly format. That same page also has an example of an action and roll, for those that are interested.
Let me know what you think. I'd love to hear any feedback - positive, negative, or otherwise. Anything is fair game, but there are a couple of specific points of concern:
Thanks for looking, /r/rpg.
Edit: Thanks for the feedback everyone! In addition to the great comments below, I've realized that the theme I was going for isn't coming through in the way I want. Some re-theming is in order to convey the setting I intended - I'm on it.
If you're into Batman and you are local this looks like it will be pretty cool.
