Lemme preface: I don't consider Candace Owens a fundie at all, hell I wouldn't really be shocked if she was a troll. However, a lot of fundies we snark on follow her on social media and echo the shit she spews, so regardless it's concerning.
In case you aren't familiar with her, she is a conservative commentator with The Daily Wire and used to work at Turning Point USA. She's very much against the BLM movement, very pro Trump, has lots of bigoted beliefs, and is also a black woman.
Some of her beliefs and controversies (via wikipedia)
- She's against the Black Lives Matter movement and describes protestors as "whiny toddlers pretending to oppressed" and thinks other black people have a victim mentality.
- Believes Antifa is worse than the KKK
- Pro life and spreads propaganda about it being a ploy to kill black babies
- Anti welfare and probably other social services
- Extremely Islamophobic and anti immigrant
- Defended Hitler
- Spreads antisemitic propaganda about George Soros
- Had a meltdown over Harry Styles wearing a skirt for a photoshoot
- Allegedly she's in favor of same sex marriage but I don't buy that at all.
Now conservatives from all sorts of backgrounds and Christians all over the spectrum have an admiration for her, so it's not just a fundie thing. The reason for this is because primarily white and non black conservatives/magas are filled with glee that a black woman amplifies their beliefs and makes them feel like they're not racist because a black woman cosigns with their beliefs about police brutality, racism, etc.
So where do fundies come into it? Well many fundies (at least before the Trump years) claim they're against racism and that it's sinful. But many are very, very racist themselves and are very passive about it (tho in the last couple years many have become more upfront with their racism). The ones that preach they're against racism are very uncomfortable with protestors all over the country and the defund the police message. So they flock to Candace Owens (and other pundits) to alleviate their "discomfort." Many fundies will not outright fangirl over Candace Owens but instead will be more passive with it by liking her social media posts, watching/listening to her podcasts and shows, etc. Fundies hold a lot of political power and the more they get radicalized by following far right pundits, the worse things will probably get.
