A list of puns related to "Bound by Flame"
I am really excited for Greedfall, but also very cautious due to other Spiders games that I wasn't a fan of, such as Technomancer. People who remember the pre-release of their other games like Bound by Flame or Technomancer, did they look great before release and then the issues came up, or does Greedfall, based just on the information we have, seem like it is breaking the mold and will be a more fleshed out experience than the other titles?
This game is 80% on sale on the PlayStation store and i was wondering if was Worth it.I have a ps3 by the way.
I found this game searching for games similar to Dark Souls. It is an A-RPG in third-person perspective. It isn't as good as Dark Souls. It lacks some polish. It is a AA game. While playing you can tell they had to cut some corners to fit the game to their budget. It is still an enjoyable game overall, however, don't expect too much from this game.
There are no stats. When you level up you put points into Warrior, Ranger or Pyromancer. You're not locked into anything when you choose one. Personally, I had a pick&choose approach when getting skills. Apart from the skill trees, there are also some perks that unlock as you complete some tasks. One example would be to kill 20 enemies with the sword. Things like that.
The combat is difficult at the start but as you get new abilities and learn to use them effectively, it gets better. I find it similar to Risen in that aspect. It takes a bit of getting used to. Warrior is about tanking, blocking, parrying and riposting and healing while Ranger is dodging, being agile and stealthy. Pyromancer has four spells with varying uses. Warrior uses bigger and heavier weapons. Ranger uses twin daggers. You can also use traps, a crossbow and there are double doors to hide some loading screens in towns. Your commander sounds like a ginger dwarf too. Sound familiar? Anyway, the game starts you with crafting and setting up traps even. You're the "powdermaster" :D in your company. I haven't used the traps or crossbow often in the game except for the final boss which is a huge difficulty spike. There are several bosses in the game. Most enemies feel like they have too many health points. I developed new finger muscles by mashing Y on my controller :P There are several armor sets in the game with various perks. You can also augment your weapons and armor with materials you find or buy from blacksmiths.
You can have one companion with you at all times. You can give orders to them during the tactical pause but I never used it. You can also change their combat to be defensive or aggressive via dialogue. There are warrior, archer, healer and magician types. They called mages magicians in this game's lore.
Speaking of, the game has a good story. It has a few twists and turns that I couldn't quite predict and if I were younger I'd fall in a few more traps. After getting acquainted with game tropes over two decades, you can see what's the right choice and what's likely to be a trap. You don't have full control over everything
... keep reading on reddit β‘Looking for other similar games such as those, main points would be a fantasy setting and a "talent tree" of sorts where your character grows in strength over time
Got the physical version of the game today, last copy in the store actually! So I'm not sure if this is selling well or low supply. The guy was also surprised so maybe it's been selling decently.
Anyways, short impressions:
Pros:
Combat is difficult. Very similar to Dark/Demon Souls, or even Dragons Dogma. VERY similar to those games in all respects really.
Really cool cel shading graphics on the enemies, and areas. I was going to take some screenshots but didn't. MC and other humans have meh graphics, but the enemies are really crazy looking. Especially the first boss.
Customizable equipment! Every weapon and armor can be customized with extra crafting parts! Awesome!
Voice acting is actually not bad!
Cons:
Game does have a varying framerate. I really hope they address this in an update since it happens at random too, nothing really to pinpoint.
Characters feel... floaty. Like there isn't weight to them. 3rd person games that do the weighted feel and controls right would be Gears of War, Last of Us, Fable.
Storyline seems pretty meh so far. Haven't dived too far into it got up to Spoiler but I doubt it will be a masterpiece.
Overall, if you are starving for a pretty decent RPG, that plays like Dark Souls + Dragons Dogma + Fable, you could do much worse than Bound by Flame. I got it for $50 new, not sure if that was a deal at Gamestop or if that's MSRP. Regardless, pretty good game from a new developer definitely looking forward to their future work.
I bought a copy from a trade and it wasn't locked at the time. However when I woke up this morning and just randomly checked my inventory. It became locked to CIS. Well played again Steam. Southpark all over again. :3
