A list of puns related to "As above, so below"
Have no idea how I miss that perfect FF flick in despite of being a fan of this subgenre. Megan is Missing, Unfriended, VHS and Dabbe (Turkish ones) franchises, Grave Encounters 1 were my faves.
Saw lots of movies but this subgenre is a shithole, hard to find a good one.
Any other recommendation?
Didn't like Gonjiam. For people who gonna recommend it, had to say it lol.
You all know the image im thinking of, that βgodβ with one hand up and one down. Its often associated with TPTB and evilness, but why?
I assume its the god itself thats represented as satanic or evil, but personally Iβve read the Corpus Hermetica and found it to be the most enlightening piece of literature Iβve ever read.
To quote the Emerald tablet of Hermes:
True it is, without falsehood, certain and most true. That which is above is like to that which is below, and that which is below is like to that which is above, to accomplish the miracles of one thing. And as all things were by contemplation of one, so all things arose from this one thing by a single act of adaptation. The father thereof is the Sun, the mother the Moon. The wind carried it in its womb, the earth is the nurse thereof. It is the father of all works of wonder throughout the whole world. The power thereof is perfect.
Idk just looking for info here. Im a little lost as to where this all started lol.
Has anyone got any interesting articles or information in regards to the ocean? My theory is that whatever can be in space, can be in the earth. Since the ocean hasn't been fully discovered or gone to the deep ends. I would like to read any experiences, theories, or whatever-related to this.
Looking at the last post by u/jenovakitty I wonder how well you bots know occultism.
Do you agree that we are all God particles which are seperated from a divine source which is God, making us all God, while we need to return to our God?
and beyond i imagine
The idea that the bottom of the catacombs was hell was awesome, the characters are lovable and the plot is really good! I'd recommend you watch it.
I've always been the guy to skip out on horror films in the past, but as a film student i felt I had to get over it, and this year has definitely been my baptism into the fire that is the horror genre.
So I'm doing 31 Days of Horror where I watch at least 1 horror film every day until Halloween. It has mostly been filled with classic's so far such as Friday the 13th 1-4, The Wicker Man, The Shining, The Omen, etc.
My sister heard me shit talking some of the classics, as they've not been very scary, and recommended As Above, So Below.
Legitimately terrifying from start to finish.
I usually watch horror films with my flatmate and we tend to make fun of characters a lot, but I watched ABSB alone last night, with a storm going outside, and it got me good.
It's also the best Lara Croft film ever made so that's cool too.
EDIT: I have seen Hereditary. Twice. This summer. Thank you for the suggestion.
This movie kicked ass! I had seen on suggested on Netflix for around a year until finally last night I checked it out. The acting was kinda meh, but I LOVED the concept and story. If you haven't seen it I won't give any spoilers to the plot bu I will say that it's a refreshing mix of adventure, history, and horror. It's a found footage kind of movie and a REAL gem. I highly recommend it
Iβm a big fan of exploration movies as well as horror, and claustrophobic underground tunnels in the caves or catacombs really peak my interest. What other movies are similar?

Amazing movie, feels similar to the Blair Witch Project in the way it was filmed, but definitely not a copy. Recommend to anyone looking for a nice, moderately scary flick.
New evidence uncovered at Smith's Cove brings the fellowship closer to deciphering the purpose of the mysterious U-shaped structure, and a previously undiscovered formation may lead to the island's legendary flood tunnels.

if you've never watched the witch, doubtful in this sub I know, you should definitely check it out. be warned it is a love it or hate it type of movie.
Iβm someone that has watched so many horror movies that Iβve gotten somewhat desensitized to them. I generally donβt get a reaction to jump scares - I never look away from the screen because I donβt want to miss anything and make the movie βless scaryβ for myself.
With that being said, I was surprised to find that I really enjoyed As Above, So Below. Online reviews for this one are pretty bad overall. Basically critics say that itβs a cool plot concept that turns into another generic found-footage series of scares.
I think the biggest appeal to me was the history and symbology of a real place in the world. I had wrongly assumed when watching that the tunnels were simply constructed props, made for the film. According to Wikipedia though, the everything was filmed in the real Paris catacombs, and was the first movie to get permission from French authorities to film there.
I also really loved the scares. While the idea of characters having to confront their inner demons/ personal hell isnβt totally original, the psychological aspect of being haunted by the thing that weighs your conscience the most, makes the scary moments more personal. Not to mention that getting lost in a cave/underground place is scary in itself. I definitely had an βoh shitβ moment the first time the crew climbed up the chute of bones only to end up looping back to where they started - this time with the entrance sealed.
The tunnel scares played out like walking through a haunted house in real life. Creepy props like pianos and ringing telephones lead into disturbing imagery like the grim reaper slinking past on the other end of the room. The gates of Hell were very nightmarish.
I did have to suspend my belief a bit with some of the archaeological and scientific movie magic exhibited by the characters in order to figure out the next step to the puzzle, but I guess thatβs why they gave Scarlet a background with 2 PHDs.
Overall I would recommend this movie to anyone who hasnβt seen it and would enjoy an actually decent found-footage movie. Wondering how other people liked it?

Did you know? The phrase refers to celestial events influencing events down on earth, particularly by means "other than logical cause and effect".
So, like magic bindings? I think I get the inside joke now
I am a horror fan, and I watch all horror. I usually never have favorites to rewatch, but As Above, So Below is the only movie that I watch at least twice a month. Why is it so Good? What keeps making me come back to rewatching it? Anyone feel like that about this movie, or another movie? It is just good.

This is where we'll mainly discuss our thoughts and Impressions of RWBY Volume 7 Episode 9 "As Above, So Below". I just watched As Above, So Below for the first time and that scared the shit out of me. I was stressing out the whole time because Iβm kinda claustrophobic and the small tunnels really got to me. I was mad anxious the entire time. HOWEVER, I really liked it overall. The plot was interesting and the ending (which most people thought sucked) made me even more freaked out and filled with adrenaline! I recommend this to anyone who hasnβt seen it yet. Let me know in the comments what you thought about it!
Iβve seen a lot of critics say that itβs not a good movie, but I know that a lot of folks on here have good things to say about it. I really really liked it. It was really spooky and insane to watch while youβre high. I did some research about this after watching and found out about all of the references to Danteβs Inferno and the 9 circles of Hell which I found equally fascinating and terrifying! Growing up catholic but not practicing and not really affiliated with the religion anymore, but knowing what my family believes to be true about demons and hell, just hits close to home. I recommend watching this and reading about its relation to Danteβs Inferno. I think people would appreciate it more.
So after owning it for years and constantly putting it off in favour of something else (or more likely rewatching Brooklyn Nine Nine) I finally watched As Above, So Below and was absolutely blown away.
For a found footage movie, it used some stuff I haven't seen before and creates a sense of dread that I haven't felt watching a movie for a LONG time.
It also gave me my first genuine jump scare in years (it's not an easy thing to do trust me!)
EDIT: Holy subjective movie Batman. Didn't expect this to be so divisive.
Not a regular member or r/occult but I do love the message behind the freedom of religion. Anyways out of curiosity what is the meaning of as above so below?
Great found footage movie. The catacombs are a perfect horror movie setting. There portrayal of hell was creepy as hell. No pun intended. Plus itβs the only found footage movie that i can think of that doesnβt have a bad ending where everyone dies. It has a 26% on rotten tomatoes. RIDICULOUS
This movie was the last movie I saw with my mother in theaters before she died of breast cancer. We shared a huge bond over scary movies and she was always gracious enough to let me pick. When the movie was over the first thing she said to me was "you no longer get to pick the movie". I thought this movie must have been shit for so long before seeing this sub and all the love for it on here. I wish she was still here so I could run it in her face and show her how highly rated it is now. Sure black Christmas remake was a bad choice on my part but I truly thought I had picked a winner with this one. Guess I was right mom :)
