Legitimately cracked the case. Not a drill. Not the ramblings of you other armchair detectives. DO NOT READ if you want to preserve an element of mystery for Sunday.

Here is the full line of inquiry. In true AC-12 fashion, this results in a false lead. But it offers the insight that allows us solve the case.

Discussion about β€œThe Fourth Man” is a cryptic clue for viewers. Such is reference to the 1949 film noir β€œThe Third Man”. The greatest British Film ever made. A clear influence to a buff like Mercurio.

General synopsis if you haven’t seen it.
A writer, Holly Martins, looks into the death of his friend Harry Lime. Hit by a truck, Harry was dragged from the road by two close friends. Testimony from an eye-witness suggests there was a Third Man. This turns out to be Harry Lime himself: H. He faked his death to evade capture by the police, and escape punishment for his criminal endeavours.

Extended to β€œLine of Duty”... The Fourth Man will refer to a suspect who is believed to be dead. Tommy Hunter is a prime candidate for H.

Hark back to the ambush of Season 2. The police were shot, the witness too. Why did the OCG set the car on fire?

Mutilation of the witness. The burns to his face left him disfigured. Note that Hunter was only identified by witness protection records, not by DNA analysis or dental records of the victim.

Discharge of her team means that only corrupt DS Akers knew if it was really β€œTommy Hunter” loaded into the car. A double cross sees her executed in the ambush that follows. Tying up loose ends? Even DI Denton didn’t see who was under the cloak.

Duplicity puts a different spin on the action at the Hospital. DC Cole wasn’t sent to kill Tommy. He was sent to kill whoever had taken his place. The earlier switch would be blown had he regained consciousness. Knowledge of such would explain why Cole was later killed by the OCG.

High ranking police officer though, the despicable Tommy Hunter is not. Tommy as β€œH” would seem incongruous with the dying declaration of DI Cotton. Any suspect need also have ties to the force. The concept of β€œThe Fourth Man” is equally applicable to one such character.

Finales all follow a careful formula. The trail of breadcrumbs is always laid through the season in question.

Interview with acting DSU Davidson sees her shocked at her alleged parentage. But her mother had told her the truth. Her real father is indeed a former officer. None other than Marcus Thurwell.

Homozygosity you all scream. The science was right, their deduction wrong. Samantha Davidson was raped by her brother, her other brother. Marcus Thurwell is really Marcus Hunter.

He

Follow up - Armchair detective book from 1980s in the UK, featuring lots of fictional murder mystery cases.

Two years ago I posted, looking for a book

'I’m trying to identify a book I remember reading as a child in the late 1980s/ early 90s living in the UK. It was a book for adults, featuring various fictional crime puzzles (mostly murders?) for the reader to follow the clues and attempt to solve.

I think it had 3 or 4 levels of difficulty in the book, with each case spread over 2-3 double pages with photo panels.

It was a large, thin hardback book. The cover maybe had fake newspaper photos and headlines in the background?

Cases I can remember include a body in the locked library and one involving female twins, with a picture of one twin in the bath with tightly curled and pinned hair.

I don't think it was linked to Agatha Christie, but very much that kind of feel.

Thanks for any suggestions!'

And today, trying different google terms to shake it lose I finally found it - ISBN 10: 0863180183 Scotland Yard Photo Crimes From The Files Of Inspector Black

Have ordered and can't wait to re-read after 30+ years. So keep looking, all you lovely people, don't give up.

I'm not an armchair detective or websleuth by any means. I am interested in true crime. While watching documentary after documentary I see a lot of the same things. Families portraying their loved ones as angels when there are other reports of what could be considered "dangerous behavior".

Not victim blaming at all. No one should be harmed. But I'm curious to know if by not telling authorities the entire truth is this hindering investigations? For example saying your child didn't drink or do drugs because they are trying to avoid the embarrassment? Trying to preserve reputations? As a mother I get that but if my child was hurt or God forbid killed I'd want LE to look at all angles.

I’ve been obsessed with true crime for what seems like forever. Partly because my family has our own unsolved mystery (murder ruled as suicide) that happened in the 70’s (before I was born). With the family’s blessing I’m beginning to look into this unsolved mystery of ours. One of the first things I’d like to do, is find out where my grandparents hired a PI from back then, to see if they have any records still. This was in the 70’s in a rural area, does anyone have ANY idea how I’d find out who they used back then or any advice on where to start? I’ve started collecting newspaper clippings already and going to the police department to request records on my lunch break.

Lithuanian armchair detectives needed! (15000 euro reward murder case)

On the 8th of July in 1998, two council workers discovered the body of a 20 years later still unidentified man in a ditch in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The body had been in the water for weeks before it was found so it was impossible to show the public pictures of his face.

The man had a distinctive Korean dragon tattoo and a scar on his torso. The scar is assumed to be because of gall/liver surgery. He was wearing this t -shirt of the toy brand Lego, a State of Art sweater, brown Dr. Martens boots and on his left finger was a ring with a blue stone . The murder weapon was still found tied around his neck, a pink/purple rope which is used as a carrier strap for bikes. Further description: 25 to 40 years old in 1998, born between 1958 - 1973, 1.79 meters tall, bad teeth (probably a smoker) and his hair was around 20 centimeters long.

The police of Netherlands conducted an isotope investigation: by looking at the hairs of the victim, researchers can determine where he spend the last months of his life. Due to the person having fairly long hair, they could trace his past back to 20 months. It shows that he arrived in the Netherlands in early June and only stayed there for 2 weeks before he was killed. Most of the time he stayed in Eastern Europe (Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine) and before his murder a short time in Switzerland and Germany.

Bittersweet story on why arm chair detectives are important

A little anecdote- I sent this in to mfm a few months ago and it didn’t get read but I’d like to share

This summer My mother died suddenly at 62 on my birthday. Its harder then you imagine to lose your mother, but I am glad my brother and I could be at her side to ease her pain. The fog of grief is hard to shake, but I had a beautifully bittersweet mystery I solved this past month that taught me a lesson.

My mom owned a flower shop my whole life, and at Valentines every year we would make a stop out in the middle of a back country road, and leave roses in a field. Growing up, you don’t have the sense to ask questions why.

About two weeks after she died, I caught a online memorial post made by a local man. See below link (redacted)

https://i.imgur.com/CSL424z.jpg

It dawned on me I never asked questions, and now I was going thru the painful experience of learning I didn’t have a mother- I wanted to know what was so special to my mom about that field.

I went into newspaper archives, and went back to the day after when the incident occurred. Immediately, I saw on the front page the news article. See below redacted article

https://imgur.com/a/U2uKOQ6

My mother had come down the dark back road, and came across a man shooting his wife in the face then himself. She pulled over while another passerby drove off to call 911. Mom sat in the dark field for an hour next to the woman as she died until the police arrived and the coroner. the woman, as she died she was clawing at the ground to get under the car as if trying to get away.

When I read the line listing the coroner; I smiled as things come full circle .... I immediately called my best friend and asked her- if she knew him as the last name was her maiden name. It was her uncle. He was still alive, and upon talking to him, due to the graphic nature of the murder, he remembered that day in 1985 crystal clear detail. He especially remembered the kind woman who sat with the bodies, driving her home late that night because she was so shook up.

Last night I drove to the spot in the field in the dark and I was terrified. I felt healed suddenly of my grief because I realized how strong my mom was to be out there alone with the bodies, and carried the experience with her selflessly for 35 years.

I have now befriended the family. So I vowed to the family to continue the tradition every Valentines day, leaving roses, and remind

Web-Sleuthing, Armchair Detective Work and Psychological Profiling (by non-professionals)

I'm seeing lots of posts referencing what CW and SW "liked" on social media. Lots of reviewing old videos on their social media pages and "interpretations" of what it all means. The majority of these posts are now being removed. WHY? I'll tell you...

If you looked through my personal "likes" on various social media platforms, you'd find that I "like" the following:

  • serial killers
  • general true crime (which likely includes stories about abduction, rape and murder)
  • music which includes suggestive or violent lyrics including:
    • Fuck the Pain Away by Peaches
    • Head Like a Hole by Nine Inch Nails ("I'd rather die than give you control" and "You're going to get what you deserve")
    • Closer by Nine Inch Nails ("I want to fuck you like an animal")
    • Rape Me by Nirvana
    • Me So Horny by 2 Live Crew ("I know he'll be disgusted when he sees your pussy busted")
    • Ain't No Fun by Snoop Dog ("When I met you last night baby... before you opened up your gap... I had respect for you lady... but now I take it all back... 'cause you gave me all your pussy... and ya even licked my balls")
    • Control by Puddle of Mudd ("I feel the pain you place inside... you lock me up inside your dirty cage")
  • paganism/atheism/satanism/alternative forms of spirituality
  • anarchism/antifa

I probably just aged myself LOL. Point is, I've never committed a crime in my life (unless you count stealing some bumper stickers from a museum when I was 13 and traffic violations as an adult). I have many different interests, and some of the topics I listed above aren't even things I actually "like" or believe in, but topics I find interesting and I want to learn more about. Enjoying NIN or reading about anarchism does not mean I'm going to slaughter my family.

Let's not go nuts with the web-sleuthing, armchair detective work and psychological profiling here (unless you're a detective, criminal attorney or psychologist, in which case, please contact me regarding an AMA). Get outside, enjoy the end of summer. If you want to contribute to this subreddit with a theory, we have a mega-thread here and an updated speculation thread here that you can add to.

Possibly unpopular opinion - doing armchair detective work reflects poorly on our Reddit community

I know everyone is clamoring for more information on the tragic incident involving Yingying. We all have so many unanswered questions, even after the release of the affidavit. However, after reading through some threads in this subreddit (especially this one), it seems to me that we're going down a dangerous path of baseless rumors upon rumors upon rumors, to the point where some users are simply conjecturing an elaborate timeline of events they think happened that have no evidence to support them. I even saw a few comments trying to piece together theoretical dialogues between the suspect and his wife, as though this whole thing is just some sort of thriller movie they want to see into. Additionally, despite the abhorrence of the suspect's purported actions (whom I will not name), having Redditors prodding into any "leads" they might find, invasiveness be damned, is a bad idea - let's not forget the role that Redditors played in the Boston Marathon bombings.

Again, this is probably an unpopular opinion (especially given the seeming popularity of the discussions on the aforementioned thread), but I think it's important to step back a bit from all the armchair detective work here.

TL;DR we all want answers, but it does no one any good to come up with baseless ideas about what might have happened. Leave the investigating to the FBI and DOJ professionals, and of course if you have any legitimate tips, notify them as well.

My armchair detective theory...

I remember reading somewhere that the cadaver dogs hit behind the sofa in the apartment. My theory is that she actually died of an accident BEFORE the dinner, possibly the day or night before, and leaving the kids alone during dinner was the perfect scenario to stage a reason for her β€œdisappearance.” A lot of people say the parents wouldn’t have had time to hide and dispose of her body, but if they had done it earlier that day or the day/night before, they would have had the time. Everyone assumes she was kidnapped, or died during dinner from an accidental overdose. Who’s to say she didn’t die the night before from an accidental overdose? That would also explain the cadaver dogs hitting in the trunk of the rental car. (Which is the main piece of evidence that makes me believe the parents where involved). As most people rightfully say they wouldn’t have realistically been able to hide her body well enough in a short period of time and gone back later to dispose of it. But what if she was dead before the dinner, they put her body behind the sofa so the younger kids or anyone who might have unexpectedly stopped by wouldn’t see, and after they had time to think about a plan, they took her body, disposed of it, then came back and went to dinner with the plan to say she was taken during the dinner. To me, this explains a lot of the unanswered questions, like the smell of death behind the sofa and in the trunk of the car. Just my humble thoughts of a possible scenario..

Armchair detectives, what is the ONE case you dream of solving?

Mine is the Claremont, Western Australia serial murders.

The case began with the disappearance of Sarah Spiers, 18, on 26 January 1996, after she left a nightclub in the centre of Claremont. Her disappearance was described by her friends and family as out of character and attracted massive publicity. Spiers had apparently called a taxi from a phone booth but was not present when the responding vehicle arrived. Her fate remains uncertain.

Some months later, on 9 June 1996, Jane Rimmer, 23, disappeared from the same part of Claremont. Her body was found in bushland near Woolcoot Road, Wellard, in August 1996.

On 14 March 1997, Ciara Glennon, a 27-year-old lawyer, disappeared from the Claremont area. Her body was found on 3 April, near a track in scrub off Pipidinny Road in Eglinton, a northern suburb of Perth.

After this murder police confirmed that they were searching for a serial killer.

The Dutch law enforcement made a video subtitled in English with all the details, check it out here:

🚨︎ report
Ukrainian armchair detectives needed!
