A list of puns related to "All Along the Watchtower"
Ever since season 3 finale was first released, the song just stuck with me. I love the Jimi Hendrix version, but I felt an emotional connection to the Bear version.
It's more fun to sing and it reminds me of how much I loved the show.
I was hoping other fans still do this still.
(I'm still waiting for that switch to go off and to find out I'm a Cylon.)
Season 3 Episode 6: All Along the Watchtower: Part 2
Aired: November 06, 2019
Synopsis: While on a mission abroad to protect U.S. ambassador Nicole Marsden, Bravo Team must fight off enemy attackers trying to infiltrate their compound.
Give me the strength to stay away from the spolers! I'm a huge Hendrix fan and went to Google it quick and realized it has everything to do with the end of the series.
First he says βthereβs too much confusionβ to Adama, and then he says βthere must be a way out of hereβ! I never even noticed the first time I watched!
What I mean is that when people bring up the song, they talk about how "Hendrix's version was so good that Dylan even preferred it!" and all of that. As if the original version isn't a piece of art on its own in some way. Maybe it's just me. Also, a lot of people seem to use it like it's Dylan's magnum opus, when it's really just another great song on a huge mountain of great songs.
When I was first discovering Dylan, I had this Music Appreciation class in high school. I remember the teacher using this song to show everyone Dylan. We had a month dedicated to The Beatles, but this was the extent of showing Dylan. He told the same story. He even played both versions. Dylan's version. Remarked that it was very shrill and all that. Then played Hendrix's version and asked what people thought, etc. He spoke a little about Dylan, saying "Many people consider him one of the best songwriters of all time. All from this Jewish guy.", which was... that's a weird way to put it right? Anyway, it felt like he almost wanted to say Hendrix was better as an artist and sort of dismiss Dylan a bit, since he seemed not to be a huge fan.
The main picks for Dylan songs used as examples are pretty weird, a lot of the time. Blowin In The Wind, Watchtower, etc. I wouldn't really use those as a curation to show what makes him so great. But really, it couldn't be done with less than at least 5 songs, to show the variety. And even then, that's pushing it.
I was on the youtube page for Watchtower, and naturally a lot of discussion. My point is that the song stands on its own for sure. I do think John Wesley Harding as an album could have been a lot more approachable and popular if it had a fuller arrangement (as was originally intended according to Dylan. Slide guitar, keys, etc). But the bare bones nature of it is part of the charm at the end of the day.
Also since we're on the topic: In one single night, Jimi Hendrix discovered LSD, heard Blonde on Blonde for the first time, and met someone who would eventually lead him to fame. Fun facts
The walls around the settlement had finally been completed and patrols were established to keep watch throughout the day and night. Copernicus had taken the 4 PM to midnight shift and was scanning his section of forest for anything that wished them harm
Hope you guys and girls enjoy my Hendrix cover ! It's not supposed to be an exact take of the original... I wouldn't even try to copy Guitar Jesus' performances .... I will never be on his level anyway... ( i lowkey tried to perfect the original solos)
I did do a lot of wishy washy improv.

You know, from when the VW3 pulled up to it in their fumetastic car.
Obviously we have Wayne's nickname, referencing the Hendrix song. But that watchtower features prominently in the first few moments of the first episode, as in the first moments of season 1 we see Dora being taken to the tree, and the first moments of season 2 we see the poisoned land.
The Jimi reference, and the prominence of that tower, put me in mind of his cover of the Dylan song. So I thought I'd do a little stretching and see if anything stood out - if anyone else wants to have a crack, do. It's all part of the fun, and it's not like you've got anything better to do.
Here's the lyrics to Purple Haze:
Purple Haze all in my brain,
Lately things don't seem the same,
Actin' funny but I don't know why
Excuse me while I kiss the sky.
Purple Haze all around,
Don't know if I'm coming up or down.
Am I happy or in misery?
Whatever it is, that girl put a spell on me.
Help me! Oh, no.
Purple Haze all in my eyes,
Don't know if it's day or night,
You've got me blowing, blowing my mind
Is it tomorrow or just the end of time?
Which, surprisingly, has plenty that could fit 2015 Wayne.
And here's the Dylan:
"There must be some way out of here"
Said the joker to the thief
"There's too much confusion
I can't get no relief
Businessmen, they drink my wine
Plowmen dig my earth
None of them along the line
Know what any of it is worth"
"No reason to get excited"
The thief, he kindly spoke
"There are many here among us
Who feel that life is but a joke
But you and I, we've been through that
And this is not our fate
So let us not talk falsely now
The hour is getting late"
All along the watchtower
Princes kept the view
While all the women came and went
Barefoot servants, too
Outside in the distance
A wildcat did growl
Two riders were approaching
The wind began to howl
(I know one theory is that one is better served starting from the title in the third verse and looping round on the song, ending on 'the hour is getting late')
So who's the joker, and who's the thief?
So no offense to Dylan or Hendrix (I love both of their versions) but neither of them have anything on Lucifer's version of All Along The Watchtower. Gives me chills every time I re watch the first episode of season two. The emotion he puts into it is amazing, wish we had a little more of him singing like that.
