I should mention I've already seen all the Alien movies, including the prequels.
Don't get me wrong - it's not even close to the same caliber as Alien, Aliens, or even Alien 3. But I didn't expect that it would be an example of prime cinema. I wanted to see aliens get blown up with a plasmacaster and green blood splattering around, and I got what I came for.
It also reminded me of the AvP book series I loved as a kid - where the human Machiko ends up killing an Alien and fighting alongside a Predator.
The weapon kit that the Predator made in the movie was pretty cool. Using an Alien skull as a shield and the tail as a spear was pretty sick.
I can understand why people didn't like it, but I thought it was overall an enjoyable movie for being a "monster vs monster" flick. Even if it doesn't hold a candle to the original Alien movies or the Predator movies.
Does anyone agree with me?
I am posting in the Predator subreddit because you guys seem more receptive to the AVP films than the Alien fans. Anyway, we had one good crossover and one that was so bad, the studio cancelled plans for a 3rd one set in the Alien timeframe. Fast forward to the era of shared universe movies. Do you think the studio might reboot AVP and do a third film?
Edit: I found a 3-month-old article about a potential 3rd film.
As the title says, not much to add.
The movie in general might be a 6/10 meh, rating it above average just because I'm predisposed to like the predator franchise, but the first half an hour is a perfect horror setup.
Presenting character motivation; reasonable scientific mumbo-jumbo; something that shouldn't be there is there, light foreshadowing of the predators/what's to come. It just feels like a great intro into a deeper spooky movie/topic.
Please express your opinion if you've got different thoughts on it, but as a spontaneous re-watch the first part of the movie holds up amazingly as a horror setup.
UPDATE: Thanks for all the questions and comments -- I really enjoyed this. As I alluded to in one of my answers, we'll have a special announcement tomorrow that we think people may like. You can follow me on Twitter or Instagram, or subscribe to our YouTubeChannel for that news and other behind-the-scenes information as we continue our work. Thanks again and Happy Halloween!
Over the course of my 35-year career, I've designed and created creature and character effects in more than [100 feature films] (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0940430/), spanning everything from The Terminator to It and including Death Becomes Her (for which I won an Academy Award). I've also acted, directed and produced.

Ask me anything, and Happy Horrorween!
Which monster mash fared better in your eyes? Both may be flawed but I still appreciate them for what they are. I wish we would get more 1v1 match-ups like this in the future but it seems like most studios are either focused on doing massive team-ups or just standalone films.
Anyways, my money is on Alien Vs Predator being the better versus film. Although Freddy Vs Jason is still miles above AvP Requiem.
That means Machiko Noguchi, Earth War, Bad Blood, Labyrinth, etc. This is what they've excelled at with the MCU - these loose adaptations of comic books that bring everyone's favorite characters to live action. If they just apply that approach to Alien, Predator, and AvP and have them all in the same continuity then that could save these franchises.
Just reboot and pull from the massive history of the EU. It's so obvious!
What do you guys think if Mashima introduce alien race like them someday?
Imagine alien like Xenomorph somehow sneak into Eden Zero and massacre whole characters until Rebecca time leap to fix everything.
Title says it all really. It's gonna be really hard to please Alien fans with whatever they do. Predator already has Skulls coming up and people seem cautiously optimistic about it but AvP... AvP is probably where Disney has the best chance of getting our attention.
Imagine if they rebooted AvP with a proper adaptation of the first comic series with today's SFX. Machiko Noguchi on film. The AvP we should have gotten back in the dark days.
Broken Tusk. Marvel money.
Do it.
I want to see something I've never dreamed of, something out of this world.
I've seen the classics like alien, I'm looking for more under the radar.
District 9 and Oats Studious did it for me recently.
